Weird things you love that other people think are awful....

I have two:

One:
Our dog has started getting up at sometime between 5am and 6am every day.

Me and DP have started sleeping in separate bedrooms so her early wake-ups don't disrupt both of us.

DP complains vigorously about the whole situation.

I secretly love it.
I love sleeping separately from DP.
I love waking up with the dawn.
I love having a brew in the early morning when it feels like the rest of the world is asleep.
I love early morning walks with the dog when the streets are empty.
I love having long mornings when I can get all my jobs done before 9am.
I love feeling like I've woken early so I deserve extra tea and biscuits.

Having said that, I really hope its only a summer thing. Five in the morning on a cold, wet January morning isn't so appealing.

Two:
I do a personal training session in our local park twice a week.

I love it when it rains. I especially love torrential, hammering rain. Its cooling and refreshing. The park empties and I feel a wave of optimistic isolation come over me. I feel powerful. I feel dedicated. I feel strong. I feel completely alive.

Last night I got caught in a thunder downpour and it was wonderful.

What awful things do you love....

Hospital food
thunderstorms
dark nights after the summer (ready for light again at the end of winter!)

I fucking love change. I also pick Bertie Bassett first of all the allsorts. Prefer cold burnt toast. Quite enjoy it when the cat attacks my ankles in his mad hour. I have a complex relationship with my new chin hair, ugly to look at but I appreciate the way it feels. Get a thrill from the smell of the underground. Oh, and small, hirsute men.

Wtf 🤣 chin hair? Gives me the absolute boak thinking about it 😟

desperatedaysareover · 08/05/2024 16:20

@HappyGoLucky96 I was horrified at first; my mum at the same age made me promise to tell her whenever she had one, but tbh they’re kind of soothing. Am looking forward to when I can stop plucking it, and sit there sagely stroking my little white beard🤪

Try the behind ear sniff- It’s very rare to get it where the scent is “ Just right”
I thought my friend was having me on when she mentioned it on her dogs ( a Greyhound then a Whippet)
But I was sniffing my dog and caught a delicately floral musky scent- and this is what she spoke of.

Dog’s ears smell of warm honey - and their feet ( famously) like popcorn 🍿 or Cheesy taco crisps.

No way - I thought I was the only one who thought that (my) dogs' feet smell of popcorn - my male dog's are a stronger smell though haha

turbonerd · 08/05/2024 18:27

And absolutely yes to hospital food. Love it.

Another favourite is folding the washing. And mopping the floors. A bit of music on and off I go!

I love my dog’s doggy breath 🐶

I love how my dog smells, I know it's a bit wierd because many people try and get the dog smell out of the house etc.

With PP on supermarkets. Usually when I go into town I'll go to the Tesco, Sainsbury's AND Lidl (they are all quite close, and tbf it's mainly to check the reduced sections, but I have to admit it's also for my personal enjoyment!).

My husband takes the piss out of me that the happiest he's seen me on any overseas holiday is exploring that country's local supermarkets. It's like I gravitate towards them.

I’m exactly the same.

MsFaversham · 08/05/2024 19:15

Campari and Soda
blue cheese
anchovies and capers
thunderstorms and torrential rain
dark evenings
cleaning my teeth
collecting the slugs and snails and taking them over the road

TreacleMoon · 08/05/2024 19:24

Coriander, my family hates it with a passion but I can happily eat straight out of the packet!
Apparently it's a genetic 'thing' for some folk it tastes like washing up liquid.

And.. Ketchup on a roast dinner - there I said it! (My eldest daughter likes it too)
Chicken, potatoes, gravy, cauli cheese and ketchup..No shame here..

Mimilamore · 08/05/2024 19:24

Love crows and early morns..

Harleyband · 08/05/2024 19:28

Early mornings
Rainy days
Supermarkets
Sleeping alone
Macaroni with cream of mushroom soup and tuna- my DM's '70s special which no-one else alive seems to like

mandlerparr · 08/05/2024 19:28

Sleeping alone is a blessing and more people should do it if they feel like it. Or at least give it a shot. I also love a storm, but from inside the house or under a deep porch. I used to go out in it, but now the clean up takes time I would rather spend doing something else.
I would say Brussels Sprouts is it for me. Not dressed up in bacon or roasted in olive oil and a seasoning blend. Just plain old, steamed Brussels Sprouts. Maybe a bit of salt and pepper, but I don't need them.

Add some peas to that tuna mac and I am right there with you.

The cold weather

CherryGurl73 · 08/05/2024 19:57

I am really enjoying the teen years! I didn't think I would, but they've been great. My son is fab company, has great music and film taste and makes me belly laugh regularly.

I also find cleaning toilets really enjoyable and I love visiting service stations when on a journey. Have no idea why, they just make me feel really happy!

Mademetoxic · 08/05/2024 20:06

Mimilamore · 08/05/2024 19:24

Love crows and early morns..

I read crowds!
I was thinking why would you enjoy crowds?!

Myteenhatesme · 08/05/2024 20:17

@CherryGurl73 Me too! Despite my youngest giving us a few problems (hence username!) I currently have 3 teens and it's my favourite age so far. I even love it when they bring around all their friends as they are so funny and lively. (Have to open a window though as a whole house of teens can get a bit pongy. 😆)

Bigbobalady · 08/05/2024 20:19

Being in hospital - obviously I don’t like being ill but I like to be looked after 😅

This! I love that weird biscuit smell he has 😂

Cydonia · 08/05/2024 20:31

Seagulls - partly because the sound reminds me of holidays by the sea, but I also love watching them being ‘naughty’ pecking at bin bags, stealing ice creams etc.
The smell of my dogs feet, especially when she’s been licking them and they’re all warm and yeasty.
Also the smell of hot horse shoeing, cautery and the drill burring through teeth ( I’m a vet nurse for context! )
Midsomer Murders
National hunt horse racing.

Cydonia · 08/05/2024 20:32

Absolutely agree with this too.

Igglepigglesweirdmate · 08/05/2024 20:42

Pickled onions in unlikely food combos
Crows
People who dress like goths and look all dark/scary, spooky and mysterious
Camping
The smell of mud (not dog shit or cow poo mixed with mud though)
Swearing
Blue cheese

68User · 08/05/2024 20:44

Hate the smell of smoke pretty much all the time (live with a smoker) but when out of an evening with friends having a drink outside (not food) and the smell wafts over I quite enjoy it. Think it reminds me of going out in my youth! I also enjoy the plane food mainly as it’s a distraction from the flying.

BetteDavisChin · 08/05/2024 20:54

Shaddap your face, by Joe Dolce.

A novelty song from the 1980s that kept Uktravox's Vienna off the number one spot 😅

Yeetpetite · 08/05/2024 21:12

Scabs. I love picking scabs, I get excited when my very clumsy boyfriend hurts himself and a scab appears. He’s obviously the one as he just accepts my weird behaviour and lets me pick away. I love picking dandruff out of people’s hair too, so satisfying!
