Weird things you love that other people think are awful....

I have two:

One:
Our dog has started getting up at sometime between 5am and 6am every day.

Me and DP have started sleeping in separate bedrooms so her early wake-ups don't disrupt both of us.

DP complains vigorously about the whole situation.

I secretly love it.
I love sleeping separately from DP.
I love waking up with the dawn.
I love having a brew in the early morning when it feels like the rest of the world is asleep.
I love early morning walks with the dog when the streets are empty.
I love having long mornings when I can get all my jobs done before 9am.
I love feeling like I've woken early so I deserve extra tea and biscuits.

Having said that, I really hope its only a summer thing. Five in the morning on a cold, wet January morning isn't so appealing.

Two:
I do a personal training session in our local park twice a week.

I love it when it rains. I especially love torrential, hammering rain. Its cooling and refreshing. The park empties and I feel a wave of optimistic isolation come over me. I feel powerful. I feel dedicated. I feel strong. I feel completely alive.

Last night I got caught in a thunder downpour and it was wonderful.

What awful things do you love....

I love cleaning my house- my Saturday deep clean is my mental wind down for the weekend

I too rise every day at 5am to get the dog walk done Uber early and have some me time to enjoy the peace

I also love fighting - I do grappling and it is the most fun I have ever had - great workout too, like chess of the body

The London Underground - especially in rush hour. The routes, lines and stations. It’s genius.

MannyTeddy · 08/05/2024 21:42

I love bovril on buttery toast and Worcestershire sauce on homemade popcorn. 🥰🥰🥰

Guineapigparade · 08/05/2024 22:13

Changing countries. Have done it several times and love the opportunity to create a new home and make new friends.

Decorating. Not mad keen on prepping but I find cutting-in very calming.

Unblocking plug holes with a plunger - very satifying when all of the gunk shifts.

Try the behind ear sniff- It’s very rare to get it where the scent is “ Just right”
I thought my friend was having me on when she mentioned it on her dogs ( a Greyhound then a Whippet)
But I was sniffing my dog and caught a delicately floral musky scent- and this is what she spoke of.

Dog’s ears smell of warm honey - and their feet ( famously) like popcorn 🍿 or Cheesy taco crisps.

I could smell my beloved dogs feet all day 😆💗

I like cleaning the house on a Thursday which is my day off work. I find it therapeutic putting order back in after a few days of manic living at speed.

I like eating my dinner after the rest of the family, on my own and having a huge biwl of random leftovers and all the veg that nobody else wants. Covered in chilli sauce. Looks like a dog’s dinner but I love it!

A sense of relief when Christmas is over

Love dark nights! Shutting the curtains at 4pm - love it 🙈

Yes me too!! My husband and I are polar opposites in so many ways. When the clocks go back he turns into a total touch whereas I love it as it’s a good reason to get the winter quilt out and stay inside for the next few months!

TheWayTheLightFalls · 08/05/2024 22:27

Eating the same thing day in day out. One week of one thing, one week of the next and so on. The last time DH went away I made a 3kg pot of mushroom stroganoff and just worked through it at my leisure.

Also cuddling and fussing enormous slobbery dogs. everyone else is missing out.

Woofie7 · 08/05/2024 22:51

I love cold water. Sea swimming. And sitting outside with a coffee even with wind and rain . Fresh air makes me come alive.

transformandriseup · 08/05/2024 22:59

Mornings. I am much more productive and happy in the morning. I'm useless after lunch. I am one of those dreaded, cheery MORNING PEOPLE

Me too, I can literally jump straight out of bed and do anything. Don't ask me to do anything in the evening though, especially not on a work night.

Hartley99 · 08/05/2024 23:03

Thunderstorms. I also quite like the rain, especially in the summer, when the vegetation is so lush and green.

Big supermarkets, especially early in the morning when they're empty.

Pharmacies.

I also kind a weird kick out of not staying in touch with people from my past. And also having no social media presence. I like the fact that people can't get hold of me.

Disturbia81 · 08/05/2024 23:04

I love gloomy grey clouds that look stormy, they make me feel happy. White overcast days though can fuck off.

I love my commute on buses and trains!

I work at a print and publishing company and often help out doing the “boring” packing and finishing jobs in the production room. My favourite is laminating the large sheets of card for business cards or etc. the radio is on in there and I love to spend a nice hour shutting off from everything and having a chill. Grin

I’m so for this. The boring jobs are the best! You can just daydream your way through it / have a chill.

Pookerrod · 08/05/2024 23:16

I love watching QVC. I have never bought anything, I’m never even tempted, but I marvel at how long they can talk about a pretty boring jacket, potato peeler, or garden hose. Everyone is so cheery. I find it so relaxing and mind-numbing.

ChishiyaBat · 08/05/2024 23:24

Japanese tv, drama's, comedies, cheesy romance I love it all! I can only speak and understand a small amount of Japanese, but I still love it!
Loads of people have said the smell of their dogs, I don't have dogs, but I love the delicate smell of my parrotlets and the feel of their soft colourful feathers❤️.

ahahblueeyes · 08/05/2024 23:33

@NutSmeg i also love the 5am coffee and housework when nobody is awake!

HenFenywFach · 08/05/2024 23:42

Squeezing spots/blackheads and watching YouTube videos of people doing it.
Peeling the skin off my lips.
Taking a big whiff of my child's hair/ head.
I love the smell of my husband, especially his armpits.
Windy/rainy walks on the beach.
Hearing a male voice choir sing a Welsh hymn, makes me very emotional.
A 90's dance tune, makes me nostalgic

Crows. There’s one that comes into our garden - so handsome and impressive. I love watching them. And I like rats too, think they’re cute.

LOL, you stole my post! I, too, love crows and rats. I feed our crows here, and they've begun leaving me little "gifts," small, shiny things that they find. As for rats, I've had several as pets, and they are delightful. SO smart and affectionate, and so easily trained!

angelfacecuti75 · 09/05/2024 00:06

Pimple popping videos.
Poetry ...reading it and writing it.
Rain on windows when I'm indoors.
Ghost programs.
Most of the things I like are different from others as I have ADHD. My opinions don't tend to align with most people's.

Indigogogogo · 09/05/2024 02:18

Getting into a freezing cold bed. I love the jolt of it and the slow warming back up all tucked under the covers.

AndromedaGalaxyBar · 09/05/2024 06:21

Pigeons - I think they’re adorable and love their cooing! I don’t care that there’s “too many” or that they eat all the bird food, sit on top of statues, or poo all over the gaff.
I always give them a little nod to thank them for their ancestors’ war service 🐦😊

Awwwww a fellow pigeon lover! I always feel so bad for them because of all the hate they get :(

BouleDeSuif · 09/05/2024 07:01

Pigeons are fabulous little birds. My grandad used to breed them for racing. I love them.

scalt · 09/05/2024 07:21

Silly party games. I feel envious if I see children playing pin the tail, squeak piggy squeak or similar. I sometimes get children to play four corners or keeper of the keys, and I have been known to take part myself.
