Weird things you love that other people think are awful....

I have two:

One:
Our dog has started getting up at sometime between 5am and 6am every day.

Me and DP have started sleeping in separate bedrooms so her early wake-ups don't disrupt both of us.

DP complains vigorously about the whole situation.

I secretly love it.
I love sleeping separately from DP.
I love waking up with the dawn.
I love having a brew in the early morning when it feels like the rest of the world is asleep.
I love early morning walks with the dog when the streets are empty.
I love having long mornings when I can get all my jobs done before 9am.
I love feeling like I've woken early so I deserve extra tea and biscuits.

Having said that, I really hope its only a summer thing. Five in the morning on a cold, wet January morning isn't so appealing.

Two:
I do a personal training session in our local park twice a week.

I love it when it rains. I especially love torrential, hammering rain. Its cooling and refreshing. The park empties and I feel a wave of optimistic isolation come over me. I feel powerful. I feel dedicated. I feel strong. I feel completely alive.

Last night I got caught in a thunder downpour and it was wonderful.

What awful things do you love....

I utterly love boxing and horse racing, which MN in particular thinks are awful.

Mornings. I am much more productive and happy in the morning. I'm useless after lunch. I am one of those dreaded, cheery MORNING PEOPLE

I'm really productive and happy in the mornings too. But I don't think I'm very cheery or a 'morning person'.

I like early mornings because there's no-one else around, the streets are empty, DP's still in bed. I don't think I'd cope if I had to encounter other humans before 7am. Ew.

I'm totally with you on the boxing. The PT session I do - and got drenched in yesterday - is boxing.

I love watching boxing. It's a shame so many matches are aimed at money-making nowadays, rather than actual competition. I hate the trend for random YouTube children to fight previously huge names too. But I still love it.

Boxing in its heyday was <chef's kiss>

I quite like exams and public speaking in an odd way.

I like Wagner's opera and lots of people would not sit through those!

IamaRevenant · 07/05/2024 16:36

With PP on supermarkets. Usually when I go into town I'll go to the Tesco, Sainsbury's AND Lidl (they are all quite close, and tbf it's mainly to check the reduced sections, but I have to admit it's also for my personal enjoyment!).

My husband takes the piss out of me that the happiest he's seen me on any overseas holiday is exploring that country's local supermarkets. It's like I gravitate towards them.

ClipClopperDontStopper · 07/05/2024 16:37

That feeling in your stomach as the plane takes off. Makes me feel so exhilarated.

BouleDeSuif · 07/05/2024 16:37

I love crows too. I have one who comes to my kitchen window every day for his breakfast, he brings the year's babies to show them where to get a free meal.

I like the weekly trash magazines and I like Fry's Turkish Delight bars that have been frozen.

I like vacuuming and mopping the floor.

TheChosenTwo · 07/05/2024 16:39

@loropianalover i almost
collapsed just reading your post 😂

I’m okay once the needle is in but I can’t look at it or see it at all, and the whole procedure makes me feel very faint indeed! Plus I always find it really painful and my veins are tricky to get at apparently 😭

Biscuits directly from the freezer 😳

Which biscuits?

shearwater2 · 07/05/2024 16:43

Mushrooms. No-one else eats them in my house.

shearwater2 · 07/05/2024 16:44

The plus side is I don't have to share my expensive truffle oil.

And there is no risk of my 200g of mushrooms being snaffled by anyone else.

sockarefootwear · 07/05/2024 16:46

I also love being up and about early, before anyone else is awake.

When I am on holiday in other countries, I love browsing around supermarkets. Even if we are not self catering, so have no real need for supermarket shopping, I always like to have a look around (and buy interesting looking food to snack on).

the80sweregreat · 07/05/2024 16:49

Was in seventh heaven on holiday abroad last year and they had an underground bit in the Mercadona! It was nice and cool and different kinds of food.
In fact, the whole family said this was a ' hi light ' of the day out to the beach. Sad I know 😂

A friend alerted me to this - the very faint aroma of fox 🦊 that Whippets can get behind their ears.

It smells almost floral, like some exotic perfume-

Strong fox is horrid

But that gentle hint of floral fox combined with the sweet scent of a furry ear- Wonderful!

I have a new dentist and when he injects my gum he takes ages to do it (rather than a jab) and it's the best sensation. I feel as though I'm going to sleep. I've told him that, too - I'm not the first person who's said it.

(I did try to time it once and it took well over 30 seconds - I was almost asleep by then so stopped counting.)

Eating the fat on meat.
Delicious

Interesting. I do love the smell of my dog's ears - very cheesy. And her belly when she's been asleep - all musty and a bit damp.

I love hot spaghetti covered in golden syrup, and chicken covered in Jam 😁

onwardandupwards · 07/05/2024 16:58

I also love cleaning the vacuum filters out and picking hair out of hair brushes

Dry cat and dog food. Bloody lovely

Lily’s Kitchen Shepherd’s Pie for dogs smells good enough to eat! Very savoury and herby

Josera Festival ( kibble) smells appetising too.

Chappie ( Recommended by my vet and the Dog’s Home for delicate tummied dogs smelled not nearly as nice (fishy)

Tripe dog food is beastly smelling 😂

aldpiahvge · 07/05/2024 17:01

In MN Land or in real life? In MN land, I love hot tubs, Las Vegas and en-suites.

In the real world; job interviews, the overpowering smell of rapeseed and other pollen (easy to say when you don't have allergies!) and doing my own accounting.

gano · 07/05/2024 17:02

I love winter and dark nights. I feel very out of sorts in the summer, and the past few days have been too warm for me, so I'm dreading it getting hotter. Since the clocks changed, I've had my living room blackout curtains closed by 7pm. I can't relax properly unless it's dark.
