Weird things you love that other people think are awful....

I have two:

One:
Our dog has started getting up at sometime between 5am and 6am every day.

Me and DP have started sleeping in separate bedrooms so her early wake-ups don't disrupt both of us.

DP complains vigorously about the whole situation.

I secretly love it.
I love sleeping separately from DP.
I love waking up with the dawn.
I love having a brew in the early morning when it feels like the rest of the world is asleep.
I love early morning walks with the dog when the streets are empty.
I love having long mornings when I can get all my jobs done before 9am.
I love feeling like I've woken early so I deserve extra tea and biscuits.

Having said that, I really hope its only a summer thing. Five in the morning on a cold, wet January morning isn't so appealing.

Two:
I do a personal training session in our local park twice a week.

I love it when it rains. I especially love torrential, hammering rain. Its cooling and refreshing. The park empties and I feel a wave of optimistic isolation come over me. I feel powerful. I feel dedicated. I feel strong. I feel completely alive.

Last night I got caught in a thunder downpour and it was wonderful.

What awful things do you love....

I'm a keen gardener but I love snails. I've always loved their beautiful shells and funny little faces. I'm happy to see them on my plants and don't believe they do as much damage to healthy plants as their reputation suggests. I also love spiders. Their wonderful movements, intricate webs, cute tiny circle of eyes, fuzzy patterned bodies. Immensely fascinating. I have no idea why they are so disliked.

Smoking a cigarette.

scalt · 07/05/2024 18:35

Wearing trainers without socks. I love the feel of doing so, and my feet don't smell; I can't deal with invisible socks. (I do wear socks when playing netball, though!)

Someone I know loves the ' pimple popper ' lady.
I do like a good cleaning programme or anything about horders.
I enjoy seeing the 'before and after ' segments and how much better it looks once it's all cleaned up and sparkling.

Opera
Jury service
Summer rain
German rye bread
Going to the office

Giving presentations at work or delivering training. I get nervous but the good kind, not the 'puking for a week before ' kind.
Oysters.

Taxidermy. Good taxidermy, not awful weird taxidermy, but I love taxidermy. If I were not married to DH then my bank account would be empty, and my house full of stuffed dead animals.

Yes 🖤

I love when me and my kids have nits, pulling the eggs out is so satisfying.

I love going to the chemist. I like having a mooch around while waiting on my prescription. They always have such random things. I seem to remember loving the chemist as a kid too. The smell or something.
I also love hospital food. I used to look forward to the cold meat salad on the maternity ward. My family think that’s mad.

0tterish · 07/05/2024 18:45

This trays of food on planes are just about the most exciting thing ever! All in the little packets

Yozzer87 · 07/05/2024 18:45

I love getting up around 4.50am, cup of tea, have a bath and get myself ready, make the kid's packed lunches and do some chores before the baby wakes up for his bottle and the kids get up to start getting ready for school. Then I love an early night. I really like the structure and routine and knowing I'm organised for the week.

Small Pharmacies and chemists do have a special kind of smell don't they ? Not sure what it is, but a bit like TCP ? I often wonder if it's the meds..
Our one sells odd bits and pieces , I came out with some stripy hair bobbles and scented soap once with my prescription which I could have bought in savers or pound world for a few pounds less I'm sure. I think it's the novelty of it all not being a supermarket ( in my case)
..

I love them, too, especially the really old-fashioned kind with wood and glass cabinets and bath and talc sets and perfume sets you thought were disinvented in about 1975 — and I agree about the smell. Part TCP, part talc, part orange-flavoured chewable Vit C.

I love life admin. Renewing insurance or filling in a form for a school trip, you can’t beat it. So little effort for such a nice feeling of accomplishment. I sometimes see people complain on here about being stuck with these jobs and I do sympathise but part of me thinks “but that’s the good stuff!”

Any job that involves me doing it and everyone else fucking off.

Aroundthefur · 07/05/2024 18:58

I love the school run. I love the bustle of getting the kids ready and then dropping them off.

Early mornings. I never ever ever lie in once I’ve woken up - I get sort of itchy inside and have too much energy. I like a coffee in a quiet house or in the garden with that early morning smell and the birds singing.

My children getting older. I never miss each stage when it passes, although they are particularly delightful at the moment. I find it exciting seeing them mature and develop.

You're actually insane 🤣

aldpiahvge · 07/05/2024 19:04

@Fanchester I'm the same! But don't tell my DH, it's always a handy back up argument when I'm losing 😂

theDudesmummy · 07/05/2024 19:09

Love loading the washing machine and then watching the washing go round.

theDudesmummy · 07/05/2024 19:10

I also love filling in forms. Except for anything to do with tax, am phobic of those.

skyfalldown · 07/05/2024 19:19

stinky smelly foods! I'm talking anchovies, sardines, tuna, capers, pickles, blue cheese, eggs, sprouts. yummy yummy!

Notellinganyone · 07/05/2024 19:21

I’m a teacher - secondary English- and I love marking. Find it really satisfying to see what’s gone in and how their minds are working.

Bitteralmond · 07/05/2024 19:22

Pigeons - both wood and feral. I used to foster them for a wildlife hospital.
Cleaning ears -mine and DH's. His are definitely more rewarding.
My neighbours - they are a big reason why we still live in one of the roughest parts of town. My immediate neighbours are not rough and are all lovely. I have been on holiday with one.

Taurusenergy · 07/05/2024 19:23

The beach and I love the feel of sand on my feet (i know alot don't) , thunderstorms and I find spiders fascinating not scary. All I can think of top of my head lol

Crows are beautiful and clever!

But be careful, they can hold grudges!

SusieKin · 07/05/2024 19:25

I love rain and I find ironing really relaxing.

Moonshine5 · 07/05/2024 19:26

Airline meals (I know lol)
