Weird things you love that other people think are awful....

I have two:

One:
Our dog has started getting up at sometime between 5am and 6am every day.

Me and DP have started sleeping in separate bedrooms so her early wake-ups don't disrupt both of us.

DP complains vigorously about the whole situation.

I secretly love it.
I love sleeping separately from DP.
I love waking up with the dawn.
I love having a brew in the early morning when it feels like the rest of the world is asleep.
I love early morning walks with the dog when the streets are empty.
I love having long mornings when I can get all my jobs done before 9am.
I love feeling like I've woken early so I deserve extra tea and biscuits.

Having said that, I really hope its only a summer thing. Five in the morning on a cold, wet January morning isn't so appealing.

Two:
I do a personal training session in our local park twice a week.

I love it when it rains. I especially love torrential, hammering rain. Its cooling and refreshing. The park empties and I feel a wave of optimistic isolation come over me. I feel powerful. I feel dedicated. I feel strong. I feel completely alive.

Last night I got caught in a thunder downpour and it was wonderful.

What awful things do you love....

Also, like @Daffodilsandbagels I like to hear my neighbours. Would hate to live in a detached house.

BloodandGlitter · 07/05/2024 21:30

Rats - I keep them as pets they're funny, affectionate and not at all dirty.
Bugs - any and all bugs, I love them they're fascinating and super cool
Bones - I have several rat skulls all from former pets also a hamster skull and other bones.

bonzaitree · 07/05/2024 21:34

I really like super boring jobs at work.

i feel like it gives my brain a rest 🤣🤣🤣

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 07/05/2024 21:34

Storms, thunder, heavy rain, hail, wind, sea and all kinds of socially unacceptable weather. Sharks - I love them.

HRTQueen · 07/05/2024 21:38

I really enjoy going to a big supermarket and spending my time walking around especially when I am bit in a tight budget best time to do is late at night when it is quiet

I love extreme weather we have here as it’s not really that extreme. Especially when it is windy

KFC and McDonalds

aldpiahvge · 07/05/2024 21:43

@bonzaitree I miss photocopying!!

Perfectlystill · 07/05/2024 21:43

I love living in London. I know it is fashionable to diss it but I just bloody love it and feel panicky at the idea we might one day have to leave for the countryside.

Jewelanemone · 07/05/2024 21:46

Peeling sunburnt skin, pulling hair out of (my own) plugholes. Eating all the meat off a pork chop bone. Airports when you're going away, not when you're coming home. The little cheeses and tubs of ice cream you get on Singapore Airlines flights. Watching videos of people having their tartar jetwashed off.

Airline meals (I know lol)

Love them! Up there with the hospital food I mentioned earlier.

Here you are

Hoovering. An almost instant gratification.

Really enjoy the small talk at the hairdresser or beautician. Love finding out about new holiday destinations and Netflix recommendations this way.

Torrential rain, as long as I’m indoors and don’t need to go out in it. Rain on skylights is my favourite sound. I turn the music down to hear it.

Another one who loves having neighbours. It was such a shock to my system when CF toerags moved in next door, after the lovely family that had preceded them, but it bonded me so closely with the neighbour on their other side that it was almost worth it.

Love saving money. I don’t mean watching the pennies or bargain hunting, more asking myself “Can I manage without it?” and often the answer is yes.

KohlaParasaurus · 07/05/2024 22:08

Brightly coloured interior design with no cohesion between the colour schemes in the various rooms. I don't have the physical presence to dress myself like Camila Batmanghelidjh, so the walls and soft furnishings get the treatment instead.

Walking in unfamiliar towns and cities. Not just the interesting places, I'll happily walk for miles exploring housing estates and little local high streets.

I used to enjoy setting about my children's heads with the conditioner and nit comb, and cracking the lice against the sink with my thumbnail.

peacefull · 07/05/2024 22:13

My family& some friends have said im strange odd and weird because I enjoy.
Being single.
Dont own a TV
Not having children.
Living alone.
Being a minimalist or extreme minimalist in their words.

HangingOver · 07/05/2024 22:15

I love really touristy areas in Europe, super cheesy. I like non-touristy places too, it's not an either or for me, I think it's because I live in a holiday town.

aldpiahvge · 07/05/2024 22:16

@peacefull I can understand the single and no children, but no TV genuinely blows my mind 😂

I love parenting the teenage stage.

Me too! What a pair of weirdos we are Grin

I also love doing the washing, and having my blood taken!

Same as me love it not the sharks though.

Dh does the washing - I hate that. I do like watching blood bubble up and was happy to give blood until I became anaemic.

Diversion · 07/05/2024 22:22

A dark house, I find it relaxing and cosy. None of your white/magnolia/pale grey walls thank you very much.

BentFork · 07/05/2024 22:22

I LOVE a nice cardigan....Grin my friend thinks this makes me an old fogey...

FeelingSad2024 · 07/05/2024 22:24

The dentist. Really like the intimate feeling of someone poking round your mouth, even don't mind getting fillings.

the80sweregreat · 07/05/2024 22:27

Cardigans are ace.
I love a jumper too

SiobhanSharpe · 07/05/2024 22:33

Tripe. Especially French tripes mode de Caen. (Buy it in bulk in the hypermarché, fully prepared in solid little packs then freeze it. )
But dislike then having to share it with other tripe-fanciers who won't go abroad.

DryFebEmma · 07/05/2024 22:38

Love dark nights! Shutting the curtains at 4pm - love it 🙈

HRTQueen · 07/05/2024 22:44

I like the feeling of getting lost when driving

it’s scary especially if driving in dark country lanes well it is to me as I am used to living in London
