Weird things you love that other people think are awful....

I have two:

One:
Our dog has started getting up at sometime between 5am and 6am every day.

Me and DP have started sleeping in separate bedrooms so her early wake-ups don't disrupt both of us.

DP complains vigorously about the whole situation.

I secretly love it.
I love sleeping separately from DP.
I love waking up with the dawn.
I love having a brew in the early morning when it feels like the rest of the world is asleep.
I love early morning walks with the dog when the streets are empty.
I love having long mornings when I can get all my jobs done before 9am.
I love feeling like I've woken early so I deserve extra tea and biscuits.

Having said that, I really hope its only a summer thing. Five in the morning on a cold, wet January morning isn't so appealing.

Two:
I do a personal training session in our local park twice a week.

I love it when it rains. I especially love torrential, hammering rain. Its cooling and refreshing. The park empties and I feel a wave of optimistic isolation come over me. I feel powerful. I feel dedicated. I feel strong. I feel completely alive.

Last night I got caught in a thunder downpour and it was wonderful.

What awful things do you love....

Pizza crusts. Everyone I know sees them as simply a means to hold the tasty bit but I prefer them to the actual pizza bit, even better if they've got a bit of sauce and cooked cheese on them and they're crunchy.

I love airports- the whole thing, baggage tagging, check ins, walking out to board

TeamPolin · 07/05/2024 17:05

Airports. I know they are most people's idea of hell but I love listening to all the different languages, watching all the planes taking off and landing. And seeing people reunited with loved ones. There's so much anticipation and excitement in an airport....

Crikeyalmighty · 07/05/2024 17:05

@TeamPolin brilliant minds think alike!!

TeamPolin · 07/05/2024 17:06

@Crikeyalmighty - we should take a trip! 😂

ginasevern · 07/05/2024 17:10

Actually OP my loves aren't a million miles from yours. I used to love walking Ddog at 5am (in the summer with light mornings). The feeling of peace and achievement was immense. I also love walking in the rain, feeling it tingling on my skin or hearing it on the window, even in the car.

Other loves are long solitary coach or rail journeys. I pretend I'm off on an adventure with no emotional baggage and 30 years younger.

Interesting. I do love the smell of my dog's ears - very cheesy. And her belly when she's been asleep - all musty and a bit damp.

Try the behind ear sniff- It’s very rare to get it where the scent is “ Just right”
I thought my friend was having me on when she mentioned it on her dogs ( a Greyhound then a Whippet)
But I was sniffing my dog and caught a delicately floral musky scent- and this is what she spoke of.

Dog’s ears smell of warm honey - and their feet ( famously) like popcorn 🍿 or Cheesy taco crisps.

Mondays.

Although I love my weekends, I always like getting back to the structure of work, getting paid to do the thing I love.

Also Mondays - but I really like my job.

Pigeons.

Maroonedjam · 07/05/2024 17:16

Weeds. I love to see them growing on pavements. Some are very pretty.

Crikeyalmighty · 07/05/2024 17:35

@TeamPolin I reckon I enjoy flights and airports as much as the holiday!

Waking up super early like 4/5am.

I love the peacefulnesses when everyone else is still asleep and it's dark outside.

Same, and not everyone's cup of tea, but also love Pugs.

I love winter and dark nights. I feel very out of sorts in the summer, and the past few days have been too warm for me, so I'm dreading it getting hotter. Since the clocks changed, I've had my living room blackout curtains closed by 7pm. I can't relax properly unless it's dark.

Hi DH 👋😆 He'd have all the curtains in the house closed 24/7 if he could. He seems to hate daylight 😆

I love storms, heavy rain, wind etc too, especially if I'm in all cosy and warm. I also love going to sleep listening to the weather, while DH lies awake petrified we're going to lose roof tiles.

Wish I could be one of those morning people. I'd love to be awake early on weekends, sat downstairs in the quiet with a coffee and my book. Alas, I'm always too sodding tired to drag myself up when I can have a lie in

saveusername111 · 07/05/2024 18:01

Getting really muddy! Love Gardening / rainy walks / trips to the farm etc.. Give me some wellies and muck to play in any day!

Isitisit · 07/05/2024 18:04

Walking at night.

SlothsNeverGetIll · 07/05/2024 18:04

Any kind of boring long-winded form filling exercise which you're taken through by, say, a bank or insurance company. I find it relaxing.

With PP on supermarkets. Usually when I go into town I'll go to the Tesco, Sainsbury's AND Lidl (they are all quite close, and tbf it's mainly to check the reduced sections, but I have to admit it's also for my personal enjoyment!).

My husband takes the piss out of me that the happiest he's seen me on any overseas holiday is exploring that country's local supermarkets. It's like I gravitate towards them.

Yeah, foreign supermarkets. Wondering what their exotic (and not so exotic) products taste like!

SewingBees · 07/05/2024 18:20

My commute. I drive through spectacular scenery on fun roads with music blaring. Only once a week mind.

Echobelly · 07/05/2024 16:35

I quite like exams and public speaking in an odd way.

I like Wagner's opera and lots of people would not sit through those!

We are twin souls. I’m good at exams and public speaking, and the first time I really got the point of opera was The Flying Dutchman at the ROH.

Corvids, heavy rain, extremely long novels in which nothing happens (especially if by Henry James), meeting new people, unexpected callers, London, Paris, Aperol Spritz (last three always seem to get a kicking on here), brutalist architecture, the school run.

Disturbia81 · 07/05/2024 18:22

So funny how it's usually women who love sleeping alone and men don't. Love my big bed to myself without a smelly noisy moving man.

I love this thread!
I love blue cheese, rats, getting blood taken, piercing pain, biting into ice cold ice lollies, when people leave me alone instead of texting me all the time, the darkness of winter, gherkins.

I love hot spaghetti covered in golden syrup, and chicken covered in Jam 😁

I should introduce you to my (4 year old) DS who likes to experiment with sandwiches and told me last week 'peanut butter with mayonnaise is OK but peanut butter with salad cream was not)

I'm enjoying my ds getting older. He's 10 and just starting to hit puberty. I know lots of people feel sad about their babies growing up, but I don't. I feel quite accomplished we made it this far with no deaths and no major injuries. Pride in the cracking boy he's become. And nothing but excitement for his future

I also quite like finding an opened can of coke, especially when I thought I had ran out (as long as it hasn't been open long enough to go bad)

My DS is 10 also and I feel similar. It feels like we’re on the cusp of childhood and his new grown up life and all the excitement that brings for him.

Greenmayleaves · 07/05/2024 18:26

I love colourful abstract art (which some think is awful).

I love cleaning the windows of the house.

BraveFacesEveryone · 07/05/2024 18:30

Taxidermy. Good taxidermy, not awful weird taxidermy, but I love taxidermy. If I were not married to DH then my bank account would be empty, and my house full of stuffed dead animals.

spaghettiforteatime · 07/05/2024 18:32

I bet no one else can beat this for weird. I love watching hairdresser's videos on Instagram of people having really bad, I mean terrible, dandruff removed with a special comb and having scalp treatment and hair treatments Grin

Majorpom · 07/05/2024 18:32

omg you blood and injection loving ones are proper weirdos. I can’t even imagine liking that!

I prefer instant coffee (only certain ones) to ‘proper’ coffee
