Surely this is just human nature or has everyone become unkind

Went to see challenges at the cinema it’s obviously a longish film over two hours. Once it had finished there was a massive queue for the toilets as I think another film ended around the same time. A young woman entered the toilet clearly overtly desperate for a wee legs crossed etc. I said the poor girl could obviously go in front of me only for the woman behind me to get very cross with me. Surely it’s just human nature if you see someone more in need you help? Like if someone was starving hungry I would give them my food even if I was also hungry.

You don't suddenly need to go unless you are five, or some disabilities, in which case she could use the accessible loo.

She could have been in the early stages of pregnancy for example I know I needed to go early on a lot even from early on during both my pregnancies.

Surely no adult should get to the point of being so desperate to go for a wee that others have to let them queue jump, when they could have nipped out at any point during the film to go.

Kalevala · 05/05/2024 16:52

Her choice to leave it until she was desperate then put on a show, rather than just popping out earlier.

DrJonesIpresume · 05/05/2024 16:54

Well OP, I think a lot of the posts on the thread have answered your question.

Most people no longer give a toss about kindness or helping someone in need, their only concern is for themselves.

It's the same kind of childish person who would hold on until desperate and also then be dramatic about the outcome of their poor choices. I know people like this.

the op was not being kind. This was not an act of kindness. I am a very kind and generous person. For that reason I would not do something so thoughtless and selfish as this

I am kind I made a mistake clearly but this doesn’t make me a bad person

If you are not willing to swap places, then it is not an act of kindness. You've just been unkind to the 20 people behind you who could have actually been in greater need.

I get this but say she was in the early stages of pregnancy? I’m sure if she was visible pregnant for example people wouldn’t mind. I know personally I had urge issue by the time I was six weeks pregnant that lasted throughout both pregnancies.

I'm sure you are kind, op. I don't think you set about to upset people. You asked why people might be upset and you have plenty of answers now. Just chalk it up to one of those things.

I don’t think it makes her dramatic for reacting to a desperate situation. Like I also said people moan when people leave the film especially if you have to walk past people maybe she was trapped with people around her.

@StuffLoriThangs interesting theory about coving but I doubt it. The world all over is becoming less kind. We seem to depend less on social capital and more on economic. The attitude is 'I don't need to be kind to anyone cos whatever I need I can buy. Even to my doorstep'. In the past you depended on a neighbour to look after your kid, garden, dog. A stranger to tell you directions. If you don't depend on people you don't feel the need to be kind.
@Lovetoshop778 You did a great thing but its also possible the person behind was just as desperate although they were not jumping. But no one was particularly unkind

Yes I understand she probably was however she shouted the full time the poor young woman was in the loo and about how selfish she was. Fair enough say something if you feel annoyed but then leave people alone to use the toilet in peace.

I mean behaving in an exaggerated way. Others behind you could have been just as desperate but concentrating on not peeing themselves rather than putting on a dance.

ALongHardWinter · 05/05/2024 17:06

If I'm behind someone who does this,it infuriates me. It's not your place to let someone go in front of you, because it's not just you,it's the rest of the queue behind you.

If you need to pee then it is perfectly fine to just go. It takes seconds to leave, it is not any significant disruption like a person using a phone or talking is. If you know you may need to go urgently then choose seats accordingly.

I get that but in my mind I think because I see everything in black and white is that people wouldn’t do that in less there was physically no other option for them.

Personally I do find it quite disturbing as the door then bangs as they leave but obviously if someone’s in need it’s fine.

Hold it to soft close it then? Honestly not a big deal, one bang compared with all the food related noises.

YABU but you don’t seem to be listening to people telling you that.

Why ask the question if you only want posters who agree with you?

It’s not always that someone has held on pregnancy uti’s anything really can make it urgent suddenly
