Surely this is just human nature or has everyone become unkind

Went to see challenges at the cinema it’s obviously a longish film over two hours. Once it had finished there was a massive queue for the toilets as I think another film ended around the same time. A young woman entered the toilet clearly overtly desperate for a wee legs crossed etc. I said the poor girl could obviously go in front of me only for the woman behind me to get very cross with me. Surely it’s just human nature if you see someone more in need you help? Like if someone was starving hungry I would give them my food even if I was also hungry.

That’s implying she was faking it when she clearly wasn’t

There's no way you know that. At all.

Would you honestly not let someone skip?

I would let someone skip if they appeared desperate and I wasn't, what I wouldn't do is make the same decision for the 19 people behind me. The issue is you negatively affected everyone else and took their autonomy away from them.

Well without being tmi I obviously heard her passing uring as I was at the front of the queue and it was vast amount so she must have been desperate. So yes maybe she was dramatic but she definitely really needed a wee though obviously I can’t say she needed to more then others.

Exactly. When you'd just been watching acting in the film you saw, you don't believe that some people can act very convincingly? Exaggeration of something that is somewhat true to get what you want ahead of others doesn't require much acting at all.

I’ve just posted other information about this which shows she was telling the truth. I don’t believe it was acting dramatic yes but acting no

Oh come on

If she was that desperate she would've gone while the film was on.

I’ve just said I could tell she was anyone passing vast amount of urine was obviously desperate like I said sometimes in order to leave a flim you have to walk past others and disturb them I know I wouldn’t feel comfortable doing so.

This. Its strange to watch and I'm very familiar with autism. The woman very likely shouted because she was needing to go to the toilet too. No one would wait in a queue of 20 people if they weren't desperate enough to wait until they got home /to a restaurant/wherever they are going next. A lot of people don't like public loos. So OP, every single one of those people queuing would have really needed to go.... And you took their decision away from them. You made them all wait longer. So you will have people rightly angry at your arrogance to do so. I'm not posting this as a criticism, I'm trying to explain to your black and white thinking how wrong you were in a way you'll understand. I hope you do understand, because it's very odd to focus on one woman whose behaviour you 'recognise' as signalling she's desperate... When in fact, ALL 20 in the queue were

Edited

Unbelievable
This is what is wrong with society.
The OP did absolutely nothing wrong - good on her for helping a fellow human out.

Kalevala · 05/05/2024 20:48

Leaving a film for two minutes to pee is minimally disruptive, perfectly fine and reasonable behaviour. Queue jumping is not.

sheroku · 05/05/2024 20:57

Threads like this make me despair. OP you did nothing wrong. If someone behind you was truly desperate then they should have said so. It's such a small act of kindness to let someone who really needs to go cut the queue. Ok they might be faking it but they might not. And then what? You let a poor woman humiliate herself because she "should have gone sooner". Honestly.

Edit: it genuinely makes me sad to think that I could be absolutely desperate to go and a queue full of people would all refuse to let me in. I always just assumed this was basic human kindness. What have we become.

Yeah but that's par for the course when you're at the pictures and desperate for a wee.

Anyway, it's not a big deal. I'm not even sure why it's threadworthy.

Unless you're as desperate for a virtual pat on the back, as she was for a wee.

OneBadKitty · 05/05/2024 21:33

IMO everyone is responsible for their own bladder.

So if anyone can't hold it for 2 hours then they either :

a) should slip out half way through or

b) pick a shorter film

c) wear incopads

You realise those who wear 'incopads' still need to use the bathroom, right?

OrlandointheWilderness · 05/05/2024 21:56

I desperately, desperately needed the loo on the way back from a restaurant tonight. To everyone else I would've looked serene and calm, but I was absolutely on the verge of an accident, only held at bay by not moving and fierce concentration. I would've secretly hated you for this OP in my agony.

And out of interest, would you have accepted an offer from the op to go in front of her? (Despite you looking serene?)

OrlandointheWilderness · 05/05/2024 22:40

Probably not @jennywren08 because I know damn well how I would feel if someone did the same. it's just not done.

Curious as to why if people needed to go that baldy they didn’t just nip out during the movie I know I have had to at times. Also why would you not go before leaving a restaurant? Seems like people put themselves in situations where they end up in great need.

Awwwwooooga · 05/05/2024 22:57

missing the point however, I’m curious to know how the ‘desperate’ lady was at the end of the queue where OP was for her to notice, given a queue of 20+ people would usually mean that the end of the queue would be outside. Makes me suspicious that she went to the cubicle end hoping that someone would take pity and let her jump in.

OrlandointheWilderness · 05/05/2024 22:57

@Bluebluemonday actually I DID go before I left. And medical conditions don't tend to be convenient.

Yes I thought that to sounds like she did come in with the intention of trying to get ahead.

I have seen it happen a few times myself when I’ve been out mostly people with young children or heavily pregnant.

If you have a disability related to continence, buy a radar key. A fluctuating medical condition such as interstitial cystitis can qualify as a disability if it has a substantial impact on your day-to-day life and is likely to last more than two years.

The radar key means that using a locked disabled loo to bypass a queue becomes an option for you if you have a flare-up.

wompwomp · 06/05/2024 15:11

Lovetoshop778 · 05/05/2024 14:32

I just thought she need more in need then me hence I let her go and out her needs over mine.

But you had no idea if the needs of the 20 people behind you that you unilaterally decided could wait longer. You can't tell by looking at people ffs.
You were rude. If you want to help then you give up your space. You dint make that decision for others.

wompwomp · 06/05/2024 15:14

Yes because the woman in the queue had a go at me for helping someone so yes I did judge her but to basically say this poor young woman was putting on an act is a bit unfair.
So all the people behind you who were too embarrassed to make a fuss were made to wait longer because of your action. You were not selfless. You forced other people to suffer more discomfort. That's rude.

I have bladder issues, in that I cannot hold on for long, mostly not at all. I would have been extremely grateful for you doing this for me.
Your a considerate sweetheart, don't change. Too many "what about mee" people these days 😑

And what about the 20 people who may also have had bladder issues but were just about hanging on?
