Surely this is just human nature or has everyone become unkind

Went to see challenges at the cinema it’s obviously a longish film over two hours. Once it had finished there was a massive queue for the toilets as I think another film ended around the same time. A young woman entered the toilet clearly overtly desperate for a wee legs crossed etc. I said the poor girl could obviously go in front of me only for the woman behind me to get very cross with me. Surely it’s just human nature if you see someone more in need you help? Like if someone was starving hungry I would give them my food even if I was also hungry.

Exactly. That would have been giving the apparently desperate woman her space in the queue.

I don’t understand the apparently she clearly was why do humans judge every action of another human.

If someone is going to get very cross over things like this to me it indicates that their lives must be on a hairpin to get cross. I am just thankful I am not them.

They are probably the same people who are still using their lockdown loo roll and enjoyed shouting "stand back" at people.

Your thread title is literally judging the rest of humanity as unkind 😂

Yes because the woman in the queue had a go at me for helping someone so yes I did judge her but to basically say this poor young woman was putting on an act is a bit unfair.

If she was entitled she would have asked to skip she didn’t

"Has everyone become unkind?" Is the question in your title, not was one person a bit grumpy!

Tripeandonions · 05/05/2024 15:45

IMO everyone is responsible for their own bladder.

So if anyone can't hold it for 2 hours then they either :

a) should slip out half way through or

b) pick a shorter film

c) wear incopads

Lovetoshop778 · 05/05/2024 15:46

Fair enough I agree I just felt a bit upset that the woman was unkind to someone clearly in need as I’m a very generous person. I would probably even give someone my last £1 if I thought they needed it more.

It was the end of the film she was in a queue for the loo. I personally find people walking in and out disturbing though obviously if they need to fair enough.

How did she get very cross with you - what did that look like? Was she yelling and screaming, complaining about your actions at talking volume or did she roll her eyes and tut?

Lovetoshop778 · 05/05/2024 15:59

she took a tune told me I was selfish in a raised voice and that I was out of order. She also shouted at the girl telling her she should wait like the yes of us which you could tell made her very upset when she was already uncomfortable.

I have bladder issues, in that I cannot hold on for long, mostly not at all. I would have been extremely grateful for you doing this for me.
Your a considerate sweetheart, don't change. Too many "what about mee" people these days 😑

Lovetoshop778 · 05/05/2024 15:59

Other in the queue rolled their eyes and sighed etc but no one else made any comments.

I think sighing and eye rolling are par for the course when you do a good deed that everyone else is paying for but the other woman was out of order to make a song and dance of it like that.

DatingDinosaur · 05/05/2024 16:01

OP you don't need to justify your actions. You did a kind thing. Don't let the selfish entitled ones take that compassion and kindness away from you.

Cas112 · 05/05/2024 16:02

That woman was probably desperate as well

Maybe she was so was I but like anything there are different degrees of desperation. The poor young woman was clearly showing she was desperate while everyone else was either happy chatting or on their phones.

because you were NOT being generous or kind at all. Being generous and kind would have been giving her your place and going to the back.

What you did was make a decision for every single other person in the queue, based on knowing absolutely nothing about the situation of any of them, and deciding they could ALL give up their place to make YOU happy.

Can't you see how selfish and self absorbed that was? Its like I walk up to you and steal your credit card and pay £200 into my favourite charity and call you unkind for being rude to me about it.

This is NOT a measure of how unkind society is. In fact, given that you had stolen time and comfort from every single person in the queue, and only one of them was rude to you, I think you got away very lightly.

In my opinion you should have been made to leave the queue. Instead you were tolerated by a load of people with no doubt exceptionally hard gritted teeth.

Like I said if I had gone to the back I would have been behind 20 other women rather then everyone else being one behind.

Because there are so many dishonest people and piss takers, I wouldn’t have actually trusted that she was desperate. She might have been hopping about in order to get people to let her jump the queue. 20 years ago, I’d have believed she was desperate. I’ve seen too many people take too much piss. Seem kindness abused. That’s why people become untrusting and appear “unkind”.

Plus, people in the queue might also have been really desperate and just not making a scene about it. I’ve been in that situation - absolutely desperate, but there are no outward signs of it.

As I’ve said I was desperate to I would have been behind 20 people rather then just one more behind. Surely if someone is more in need you help them. That’s my view with anything if I was just a bit hungry and someone else was starving I would give them my food.

As I said I did look around to see how the others were coping no one looked as distressed as this girl.
