Surely this is just human nature or has everyone become unkind

Went to see challenges at the cinema it’s obviously a longish film over two hours. Once it had finished there was a massive queue for the toilets as I think another film ended around the same time. A young woman entered the toilet clearly overtly desperate for a wee legs crossed etc. I said the poor girl could obviously go in front of me only for the woman behind me to get very cross with me. Surely it’s just human nature if you see someone more in need you help? Like if someone was starving hungry I would give them my food even if I was also hungry.

So, again, it's possible that there were people in the queue who may have been just as desperate but who weren't making a carry on about it. It may have been pelvic floor-maggedin and you'd be none the wiser.

Yes and I do take that on board I just judged at face value and like I said it was a lot different from them to be one behind then her be 20 people until she got a a chance.

Just a question would you leave someone visibly desperate to queue behind 20 people?

Yes I would have ignored her. Because I wouldn’t have believed she was genuine and I wouldn’t want to get involved with the situation. Due to bitter experience of piss takers and liars, I find it’s best to keep out of this kind of situation.

that said, I would also not have said anything if someone else had let her in the queue.

Mumofteenandtween · 05/05/2024 16:25

To use your “give people your last pound” analogy what you actually did was decide that she needed £20 and give her one pound of your money and then forcibly steal £1 from 19 other people. And then acted all shocked when someone got upset because they needed their pound.

What she you genuinely think someone would embarrass themselves like that crossing legs etc looking on the verge of tears as ploy? Surely she could have just asked to skip she didn’t need to put on a show

Perhaps she should have gone to the loo when she needed to go instead of getting to the point she could barely hold on? That’s what adults do. I’m sure there would have been disabled toilets available for her use if she was disabled?

I’d have been annoyed too if you’d let someone jump the queue and held everyone else up.

Yes, she could have popped out halfway through the film when it was quiet, she must have needed to go long before the film finished. I don't have time for drama queens.

Catico · 05/05/2024 16:28

A friend once met us when we were queuing for an attraction. He asked if we would let him in ahead of us because he was worried he would miss the morning session and he wanted to be somewhere else in the afternoon. I said I would but we would have to go to the back of the queue in his place because it wasn't fair on those queuing behind us. in the end he didn't stay and left the queue.
I believe in being kind but but not in using other people's situation to virtue signal.

I'm not sure I would. I might even let her in front of me. But I would expect the universal stink eye from the queue of people I just shafted.

Fair enough however she could have been polite she didn’t need to raise her voice or shout at the young woman while she was in the toilet cubicle!

Some people have no shame and will put on a show, yes.

It was not for you to judge that every single other person in the queue HAD to give up one space - I am so angry thinking about this. If you did that to me when I was waiting for the loo I would have been so upset. You have absolutely no idea what anyone elses situation is, whether they are chatting, looking at their phone or anything. I look at my phone sometimes as a distraction when I am in serious pain, and you taking it upon yourself to make it worse for me like this would have been devastating.

honestly, you are making me so angry. Not only was your action incredibly selfish, but you are so smug and self congratulatory, and calling yourself kind and generous when you have been so totally self absorbed and selfish just takes my breath away.

I am imagining what other people in that queue could have been experiencing, and if I had been there, I promise you, you would have gone straight to the back.

You've just nailed why this is annoying me so much. Some of us are in chronic pain and can't stand up for long.

OP. Stop being kind on others behalf when you have zero idea of their circumstances. I wouldn't have said anything either. Because that would have taken energy I need to keep standing in the damn queue.

The cinema is expensive now around £20 a ticket so I don’t really blame her for not wanting to go out. Also if people are talking about being selfish walking in and out sometimes along isles can be very distracting but obviously if people react need to that’s fine.

I just thought she need more in need then me hence I let her go and out her needs over mine.

You put your opinion of her needs above everybody else behind you in the queue. Not everybody does a little dance; particularly if they are actually past the hopping and knee knocking performance and it's more move slowly to avoid involuntary acts.

Less than a tenner here! If you don't want to miss two minutes then be careful what you drink.

Lucky you our cinema was done up so unfortunately they put the prices up. It’s ridiculous. I guess you can say be careful what you drink but food and drink is heavily marketed at cinemas and after a over two hour movie people are bound to need the loo!

Which is fine, just nip out to the loo. It's completely deserted mid-movie, you could be there and back in a minute.

If she had bought cinema food and drink too then £20 wasn't all that much to her.

you are not entitled to let someone in in front of you at all. You ARE entitled to give up your place to her, and go to the back yourself

The majority of people seem to agree with the above. The fact you are still arguing demonstrates that you just don’t get it - you don’t get to decide for other people (who may also be desperate but better at masking it) how long they wait for the loo.

Please could you also look up the difference between to and too. They have different meanings.

Maybe she did quite a lot of people got up and wait during the film or maybe she didn’t need to during it who knows.

You don't suddenly need to go unless you are five, or some disabilities, in which case she could use the accessible loo.
