The whole reporting around the London election has been off, so much disinformation that has gone unchallenged.

Really has, some of the stuff on the next door thingy has been appalling & her leaflets weren’t much better so many lies & extremely underhand tactics.
really hope Sadiq wins, must admit felt a bit uneasy last night as couple of Labour people knocked on my door last night & said they thought it would be closer than polls were previously suggesting.

The usual suspects have a thread going on AIBU about What People Expect From Labour and it's all the usual nonsense about wrecking the economy, gender rubbish and taxing the middle classes to death. And yes, it's by someone pretending they used to vote Labour or some shit. I can't even.

RafaistheKingofClay · 03/05/2024 17:14

There’s all sorts of weird rumours flying around about the London mayor election. As well as lots of people pointing out they haven’t started counting yet.

Given that the Labour vote has held up if not increased, reform only seem to be taking Tory votes not labour votes and greens/lib dems have also taken votes of the Tories it’s not an outstanding victory for knowing what a woman is, I agree.

And it pretty much backs up what the polling says about which issues are important to the whole electorate rather than a vocal minority.

They should vote for the Tories. The party of fiscal responsibility who brought us:
austerity 1
brexit
liz truss
an attempt at austerity 2
potential of 46 billion in unfunded NI cuts because Truss’s 45 billion didn’t do quite enough damage.

SerendipityJane · 03/05/2024 17:20

Interesting dive into stats so far.

TL;DR - Tories are shafted and tactical voting has defeated any voter suppression

Worse Than Expected Results for Tories

As local election results have been coming in during the night and morning, we have seen that the voting is roughly in line with polling, but that the Conser...

Yeah, saw that one. Ignoring.

On Twitter there are bots going on about exit polls for London Mayor showing a Hall win. What exit polls? There are none!

Were they taken by seniors ?

L1ttledrummergirl · 03/05/2024 17:30

Maybe the shock is Susan Hall beating Count Binface and not coming last...

The other way around would not be a shock.

borntobequiet · 03/05/2024 17:31

It’s reasonable to have concerns about the impact of genderism on women and girls, especially since the Cass report spelled out very clearly the harms that have been done within captured institutions. Some people will base their vote entirely on this, others will take into account a range of factors. Everyone is entitled to decide who to vote for based on their values and understanding of the facts.
Women who decide to prioritise their concerns - some of whom may have been affected adversely, either personally or via a family member - don’t deserve to be criticised or dismissed for doing so.

RafaistheKingofClay · 03/05/2024 17:33

Not just tactical voting. Seeing lots about how the Lab, LD and Green parties have made their votes much more efficient for a FPTP system. Compare with reform who have picked up a sizeable chunk of votes but have no seats.

tobee · 03/05/2024 17:39

The people who say they would vote Hall are the kinds of people who say but Biden is old. Iyswim.

Any "news" about exit polls and such is of course crowing out other news.

LittleBowSheep · 03/05/2024 18:18

A very different attitude towards the voters from leaders of the 2 main parties.

Starmer - "there are places where we need to work harder to win and and win back voters"

Sunak - the results at Tees Valley shows that at a general election the voters "are going to stick with us"

😦

dontcallmelen · 03/05/2024 18:20

Hmm thought Houchen was tying himself in knots distancing himself from the Tory party.

newnamethanks · 03/05/2024 18:30

Has anyone mentioned this? Am just popping in and out today so haven't read full thread. Anyway, Women's Equality Party - about which I know nothing - won a seat from the Tories with 1,659 votes in Hatch Warren & Beggarwood ward, Basingstoke. Party founded 9 years ago by Sandi Toskvig and Catherine Mayer. Congratulations to new councillor Stacy Hart. One more councillor than Reform.

Rishi Sunak: "Labour know they had to win here(Tees Valley), in order to win a general election."

Evan Davis: That can't be true?

Sir John Curtice: No...

I listened to PM and the Conservative Minister. There was so much stuff that he came out with that just needed challenging.

He was truly bizarre-Andrew Griffith I think.
Apparantely the public know that the Tories have a plan and Labour don't and so the Tories will win the General Election. His meant to be Minister for Science etc. but couldn't seem to work out that the numbers shows that his party had just done catastrophically and no one likes them.

I think they may be the feminists who are unpopular on the feminist threads.

DuncinToffee · 03/05/2024 19:01

One of the Rushmoor Tories said they lost because Labour had a negative campaign.

I guess he doesn't visit the Tory office in Aldershot town centre very often

That’s an impressive argument to try and make work standing next to a candidate whose vote share is down by 20%

In second place for most delusional party leader is Tice with ‘Reform becoming a real opposition to Labour’.

With reform getting 17% to Labour’s 60% in the by election and picking up 0 council seats that’s a bit of a stretch.

Richard Tice

Reform UK becoming real opposition to Labour, says Richard Tice

The party came third in the Blackpool South by-election, just 117 votes behind the Conservatives.

There is some more chat about Hall winning London because Gaza affected the Labour vote. It would be ironic if Khan actually lost because he could not secure many Muslim votes due to Gaza, and Hall, who has groups on Facebook which display racist and explicit anti Islamic content would win.

Single issue politics is always expensive and most often it costs the poorest the most.

RafaistheKingofClay · 03/05/2024 19:36

If that is the case, I can’t see anyone not voting for Khan because of Labour’s stance on Gaza voting for Hall.

I believe turnout is about the same as the last election. Which might suggest they didn’t just not vote. Although who knows what to believe with all the rumours flying around.

I wish they could just count now and get it over with. It’s making me nervous even though there’s an impish part of me that would like to know just how much chaos Hall could cause as mayor of London.
