BREAK: Labour wins the York & North Yorkshire mayoralty - which takes in the constituency of a certain @RishiSunak

So will
we need a list so we can have a tipple, could be iffy though might get alcohol poisoning.

We should agree a drink list ahead of election night.

The scope for mischievous planning initiatives looms large.

And I for one wouldn't shed a tear. The fucking tories have made a game of the past 14 years so can enjoy some paybackola.

A sort of assigned drink per target seat ?

But I will be fucked sideways if I am drinking sherry. For anyone.

North Yorkshire (& York) mayoralty, result:

LAB: 35.1%
CON: 27.3%
LDEM: 16.2%
GRN: 8.0%

New entity, but:
Labour notional GAIN from Conservative

Commentary:
If you're looking for the jaw-dropping result of the 2024 local election season, this should be it. Labour has never come close to topping the poll in North Yorkshire - ever. This is not normal.

I am so sick of Sunak saying he's concentrating on delivering for the people. Delivering what??!! More pain?

Oh, and just saw this on Xwitter.
DW must be on some mighty fine mushrooms. (Or maybe it's MN glue?)

It's all pretty dire but Jenkins on culture?

Fuck me that's scraping the barrel!

Exactly this, and we need to.pick only the best ones or we'll end up dead. So the likes of JRM, Braverman, Gullis, Jenrick, Patel, Cates, Kawczinsky - all the rabid right wingers. We should sadly have time to agree the contents.

And no sherry for me either.

RafaistheKingofClay · 03/05/2024 14:53

The PCCs don’t seem to be going that well for them either. They’ve lost Cumbria, Avon & Somerset and Bedfordshire to Labour.

Thank god The Plan is working and they just need to keep on delivering.

In further news the Telegraph seem to have a story on their front page that Rishi has offered Ireland the chance to join the Rwanda deal to sort the issue with returning refugees. Wish I’d been a fly on the wall when that offer was made.

RafaistheKingofClay · 03/05/2024 14:56

Badenoch has to be on the list.

There is probably time for them to lose a lot of MPs before the election so that might save our livers a bit.

I like to think my vote counted.

Not sure what DS did. It was his first vote. He thought voting should be more exciting than a bit of paper

pointythings · 03/05/2024 14:58

Our PCC is a Tory hold. My bit of Suffolk really is rosette/donkey territory.

All of the above would like these on the list as well Badenoch, Gove, McVey, Truss
no sherry for me either or wine goes straight to my head.

There should be a Portillo Prize awarded to a deserving loser in GE. Braverman?

I think Braverman manages to get my goat more than any of them. Not sure why.

Lee Anderthal losing his seat would probably see me blue-lit to A&E.

Yes. And Badenoch.

Also will toast to Angela Rayner. I expect her to win but the hell the Tories have given her.

tobee · 03/05/2024 15:20

I like sherry. Can I still play? Grin

newnamethanks · 03/05/2024 15:24

Agreed, too many horrors to choose a clear winner. I'm still standing by my pledge to go to the cathedral and light a candle of thanks to his Almighty if Rees-Mogg is booted out. Seems only right 🙏

You can have my share !

pointythings · 03/05/2024 15:52

We can all drink.what we want, preferably within survivable limits. If by some miracle Sunak loses his seat (v. unlikely, I know), all bets are off.

I notice with interest, my spell checker (powered by AI ®™© ) really, wants to insert "Bad Enough" when "Badenoch" is intended.

I may have to revise my opinion of Large Language Learning Models after all. It seems they are developing intelligence.

Delighted, what a win. NYorks is usually such a strong Tory area. So pleased we are joined with York.

Love the BBC quote - ‘and in Rishi’s backyard’.

IClaudine · 03/05/2024 16:02

I think I might go teetotal in the run up to the election, to give my liver a fighting chance. Love the idea of a list of key targets to celebrate.

My DH has just upset me. He claims James O'Brien said he had inside info that there is a big shock coming for the London Mayoral result. Did anyone hear that?

Nothing more required Grin

I'd find it quite hard to believe that Susan Hall might have won...

GoldenTrout · 03/05/2024 16:04

I see Conservatives have released a Government video of rounding up asylum seekers for Rwanda. Times of course for the local elections.

How very gratifying to see that this hasn't won over voters. In fact, if anything I suspect it may have contributed to more than a few Labour votes.
