Mine was Ghent, and yes I would but I wouldn't go out of my way. I think you would run out of things to do/see very quickly!

Last trip was Vietnam, we had a great time and travelled around a fair bit but I wouldn't go back. It's a long long journey and there's so many other places to go to that I'll prioritise. I can't really see the rationale in revisiting super long haul destinations unless you're having a very different sort of trip each time.

DancefloorAcrobatics · 25/04/2024 13:58

Athens- lovely city.

But no, wouldn't go back unless it's for a few hours travelling through. The centre is quite small and once you have seen the main attractions, well you have seen them!

BebbanburgIsMine · 25/04/2024 14:10

Bebbanburg (Bamburg) last August

Going back this September and I cannot wait!

I went to York before that, and going again next month.

A few years ago even a day trip anywhere was impossible, so these trips mean so much to me.

I agree and next year's Japan trip is going to be very different from this year's!

WonderingAboutBabies · 25/04/2024 14:33

Bali, and yes, I'd go back. A million times over. It was so beautiful and the culture is so different!! We did a mix of touristy and non-touristy stuff and stayed in the main areas - next time we'll definitely explore a bit further north (more isolated).

It depends what sort of holiday you like, as well as whether or not you're able to go somewhere else in the same year as well. e.g. we've been to Barbados several times, but stayed in different places, visited different places but usually go as we want a bit of sunshine. We also fit in at least one European trip, and go somewhere different each year, and a UK long weekend too.

This year we've been to Rye, and shortly will be off to Vienna.

fungipie · 25/04/2024 15:41

Just returned from Liguria, Northern Italy. And will definitely return, in May next time and different town.

useitorlose · 25/04/2024 15:45

Sheraton Full Moon resort, Maldives - loved it but wouldn't return as we can have an equally good holiday in Thailand for a third of the price.

Crikeyalmighty · 25/04/2024 15:47

@BebbanburgIsMine Bamburg is lovely

LlynTegid · 25/04/2024 15:48

Berlin, for the film festival, though that was just an excuse to go there for the fourth or fifth time. Yes I would go back.

KellyMarieTunstall2 · 25/04/2024 16:01

The Maldives, got back last week. Loved snorkelling and it was v v relaxing. I would go back.
There are lots of places that I love and would go back to. Too many to list.

Mandarinaduck · 25/04/2024 16:11

Recently back from Thailand. Nice enough but wouldn’t go back.

i agree with PP though that Mallorca is a surprisingly lovely destination - been several times and I’d gladly go again.

RomeoRivers · 25/04/2024 16:18

Barbados. I wouldn’t not want to go again, but I also wouldn’t actively seek it out. Too many other places I haven’t been yet.

Having said that, I did prefer Dominican Republic and will continue to go there and try out different resorts.

This is a part of the world that has always fascinated me and I would love to take my teens to visit. My daughter would love to see some of the cities on the Silk Road too.

Please say more about your trip!

@CommeIlFaut

I've also been to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

Highly highly recommend all of them - fantastic and interesting places and fabulous people. I can recommend the companies I travelled with.

Timeforatincture · 25/04/2024 16:34

We returned recently from a trip to the Azores (one island only - Sao Miguel - though there are 9). Would definitely go back - and not only because we didn't see any whales (lots of dolphins though).

It's a beautiful island; really lovely. Wooded and hilly. And the fish in the restaurants is superb! And there are hot springs! I believe it gets a bit overrun with cruise ships in the high season, so maybe ideally I'd go in September when they'd eased off a bit but it's still warm.

mondaytosunday · 25/04/2024 16:44

Boston at Christmas and yes as it's where my siblings live, but it's a great city and I'd recommend it to anyone exploring the East coast. Before that mini cruise to Bruge and Amsterdam and I feel I've done them now (been to Amsterdam three times and Bruge was lovely but tiny).

takemeawayagain · 25/04/2024 16:51

Ibiza, wouldn't go back, much prefer Mallorca.

CommeIlFaut · 25/04/2024 16:59

MrsHamlet I’d love to hear about the companies you used. We are normally pretty intrepid in planning our own trips, but I wouldn’t know where to start with that part of the world. Which cities and sites would you particularly recommend?

SiobhanSharpe · 25/04/2024 17:02

Andalucia -- near Cadiz in the 'sherry triangle' of Jerez, Sanlucar and El Puerto de Santa María. Love the area, we go overy year for five weeks or so in January.
The weather is lovely, 16-21 C plus extra daylight hours.
It's a wonderful escape from cold, dark January weather here. (England)

I'm the same. There were some lovely cliff top restaurants in Ibiza, but everything was very, very expensive and the scenery wasn't as spectacular as Mallorca. I did love Ibiza Town though. We also recently went to Minorca, which was a bit meh.

cheeseandketchupsandwich · 25/04/2024 17:12

Albufeira over Easter hols. Yes I'd go back!

Can I ask where you stay? We holiday in Spain late autumn, usually for a couple of months but this is an area we've yet to visit but keen to try.

fussychica · 25/04/2024 17:19

Just back from Pisa. I'd absolutely go back. So convenient and a great hub for visiting that whole area by train. Only managed a couple of places during our short stay. Anyone thinking of visiting Cinque Terre, be prepared for the crowds, heaven knows what it's like in Summer. Lovely but over hyped IMO.

MrsHamlet · 25/04/2024 17:20

@CommeIlFaut I used Kalpak Travel for the Stans, and Arara for the other. Both based in the regions, so I felt like I benefited from that.

I loved both trips and it's hard to pin down specific places but both Baku and Nur Sultan stand out as hypermodern cities in vast expanses of desert.

I won't say what I want to about Albufeira 😅.

Despite living 30 minutes away for 5 years I have visited the place 3 times. There are far nicer places to visit or stay in Portugal!
