I am starting to suspect @Lion400 wants to get these threads taken down. Don't let's fall into the trap of giving them an excuse to do so.

I think we should all just ignore any posts that pop up on the particular subject we (most of us) are happy to lay aside on these threads. Don't even respond or we might lose our safe space.

Edited to add - somehow I lost a whole page and the fact that that issue has been taken off elsewhere! As you were...

MPs are now voting to remove the second Lords amendment, 10F, which is the one that would protect Afghan intepreters and anyone else who has worked for British forces overseas from deportation to Rwanda.

Will be interesting, this one

I feel he values his family @Piggywaspushed, genuinely. Perhaps some old friends, or mentors who have helped him get where he is. Maybe he values people who have managed to obtain wealth despite being from a poorer background? It’s definitely a common opinion that you can work hard and “make something of yourself” - a central tenet of Conservatism, in fact.

I don’t think he’s a sociopath tbh, just so privileged he can’t feel empathy for people not born into the same privilege as himself. Of course, it doesn’t follow that being born with wealth, good schooling and opportunities makes you incapable of empathy, but in his case I think it is true.

Edited

And yet they really don’t like it that Angela Rayner has worked hard and made something of herself, do they? Very odd.

Ahh, but she won’t stop talking about it, she wants the same opportunities for other working class people and she refuses to attribute her success to Conservatism, so…… Wink

Robert Buckland was the only one voting against last time round

NEW: Only two Conservative MPs, Jeremy Wright and @RobertBuckland — both former cabinet ministers — voted in favour of Lord Hope's amendment

The amendment sought to establish a monitoring committee to adjudicate on whether Rwanda is safe

And @RobertBuckland was the only Conservative MP to vote in favour of Lord Browne's amendment

This amendment sought to exempt those who have served and helped British forces abroad from deportation

Left work to find a million messages on the thread and thought something interesting had happened…

It’s a very good point. I hadn’t thought of that.

I think the UN are saying no, because the air traffic controllers need to consider human rights too.

Honestly it's such a shambles

Efacsen · 22/04/2024 18:28

Thanks for the new thread

Lost you all for a moment there!
I had an afternoon nap and dreamt that Farage had opened an airline that was shipping refugees to Rwanda - the nose of the plane was UKIP purple - called Reformation. He kept on saying "It's not about doing good works, but I will take control and make Britain a great Christian country once again" to the news crews. The news report showed the plane taxiing down the runway and he had a fag hanging out of the side of his mouth as he lifted his hand in a wave.

My subconscious is a terrifying place, clearly.

They are going to have to take them by boat at this rate. Should get Grayling onto sorting something.

A top government minister left behind sensitive documents about Rwanda flights just as Rishi Sunak pledged to not give away "sensitive operational details" earlier

They were left under the row of chairs the ministers were sitting in after the press conference.

They just can’t help themselves, can they?😂

An addition to the fact checking thread on the press conference earlier. The deployment of judges is a matter for the judiciary, taking into account existing backlogs, and not the government.

Wheels falling off this plan all over the place.

Lizzie Dearden was very interesting on The Newsagents Podcast just now.

@Piggywaspushed very sorry you have been upset, feels a bit more galling when you are on a thread that parks up whatever views we may have or not have.

Thank you. I appreciate it.

DuncinToffee · 22/04/2024 19:22

Steven Swinford

How a long night of ping pong is shaping up as MPs and peers vote on Rwanda bill:

18.00 Commons votes down Lords' amendments

20.00 Cross-bench peers table narrowed amendments

22.00 Amendments sent back to Commons

23.00 Commons expected to vote down new Lords amendments

00.00 Over to Lords...

How long this goes on for depends on:

1. Whether the cross-benchers hold nerve in the Lords

2. Whether Tory peers turn out in significant numbers in Lords

3. Whether govt is willing to make concessions - it has signalled it will not

Whatever he is, definitely not the Messiah he is a very naughty boy.
he always strikes me as being very indulged & spoilt & really doesn’t like being questioned very much.

Remember the clip about his friends, none of them being working class, it said it all really

I reckon you slipped into an alternative reality for a while. Thank god you made it back!
