But to make Rwanda happen -

"• 25 courtrooms & 150 judges available to deal with legal challenges"

x.com/vicderbyshire/status/1782348685797405008?s=46&t=Uw4lJNwxFZFnX0Xs3doHYg

This makes me angry Angry

Only last month is was reported that more than 180 alleged rape victims in England and Wales have faced more than two years of delays since their case first went to court,

Well, Sunak has certain laid himself as a hostage to fortune, with his "the Rwanda bill will pass tonight" then following that up with "Flights will take place in 10 to 12 weeks.."

What if these don't happen? surely he'd have to resign?

Then again, i expect he'll blame others as per usual.

Its rather sad that the party that "knows what a woman is" cannot get 150 judges to help clear the rape trial delays.

The corner he’s painting himself into just keeps getting tinier. Who the hell is advising him? They must really hate him.

Paying cat tax with a picture of Shrödinger's cat.

Me too. I heard the other day some victims have been waiting 7 years!! It's an absolute disgrace.

And dont forget the recent directive not to remand rapists in custody and consider that jails are full in sentencing.

The effective decriminalisation of rape is my number 1 feminist priority.

bombastix · 22/04/2024 12:36

The decriminalization of rape also extends to other sexual offending like sexual assaults and viewing unlawful pornography. The truth is that these are precursor offences in many cases to more sex offending but the government expects these men to be managed in the community.

Alexandra2001 · 22/04/2024 12:36

Remember too the numbers actually charged with Rape have fallen off a cliff as well.

Decriminalisation by default.

Lion400 · 22/04/2024 12:37

Meanwhile a woman who has been raped can’t go to a female only rape crisis group. See Sarah’s story.

Whilst the rape crisis centre in Edinburgh is headed up by a male. You couldn’t make it up.

Thanks for the new thread. Here’s Perdy examining the Tory tax record. She’s deeply unimpressed.

Did anyone actually ask Sunak what he is planning to do with the 40,000 asylum seekers that are prohibited from seeking asylum here that have arrived over the last year or so.

He can't genuinely expect all 40,000 to be flown to Rwanda - and he certainly can't have planned for 40,000 court appeals.

Yeah. Policing porn is very high on my list too. Apparently though it's "too hard", although the industries appear to have done a relatively good job of policing pirated media.

If people want to discuss it they can.
I feel most people have probably covered those issues extensively in FWR though.

Thanks for the new thread @DuncinToffee.

This is the news that has stuck me the most this last hour, 4 big lenders hike mortgage rates:-

Just more examples on how the government is letting women down

The police are too busy watching porn to police it.

IClaudine · 22/04/2024 12:59

tobee that is really bad news for people with mortgages. Wasn't Sunak talking about interest rates going down recently,?

No, it isn't.

I have a family member who works for Scottish Rape Crisis (and does an amazing job) so I would ask you kindly to consider removing this comment.

Ah, I see. The shoehorning is getting painful now.

Not correct.

Obviously the current gvt are letting lots of people down.

But the situation with the law related to women’s rights in this country at the moment comes down to the fck up Labour made when they were in power. Putting into law a ridiculous Act based on social constructs as opposed to biological fact.

Added to current gender ideology scandals.

So Labour are responsible. And Labour know it.

Zonder · 22/04/2024 13:43

Just checking in. I'd take a pic of the cat but I have no idea where she is.

pointythings · 22/04/2024 13:48

So the lack of prosecution for rape due to underfunding of the courts is Labour's fault now? The closure of refuges due to cuts in council funding is Labour's fault? Everything that has gone wrong for women in the past 14 years is due to the GRA? Oh FFS.

Zonder · 22/04/2024 13:54

@JessS1990 I saw your reply to me on the old thread. I think we need to make up big flasks if we have to sit at the polling booth until we are ready to vote as Rishi would like in the next GE!
