Poulter had more chance than many of his colleagues of retaining his seat, although being a doctor in the Tory party may not have helped him.

I was just coming on to say Dan Poulter.
I have mixed feelings about this. Obvs looks rubbish for Sunak but Why now? He has been around since 2010 I think. There is an element of looking for a lifeboat to this. ☹️

newnamethanks · 27/04/2024 17:56

He's leaving at GE. Obviously dislikes Sunak as much as the rest of his party.

RafaistheKingofClay · 27/04/2024 18:00

How has u it f taken this long for him to realise the issues?

tobee · 27/04/2024 18:14

So much for the last week being a successful "reset week" for Sunak. Which is as only shorthand for “not an utter disaster.”

IClaudine · 27/04/2024 17:43

He has an absolute bloody nerve. He was a health minister when Lansley "reformed" the NHS, causing untold damage and wasting millions.

Was he? I didn’t know that. If ever there was a time for a show of conscience over the NHS it was then.

DuncinToffee · 27/04/2024 18:19

He ia atepping down to dedicate more time to his work as an NHS doctor specialising in mental health.

I guess he finally reached his limit.

Well, the Trust he is working for is in deep, deep, deep trouble. They're my patch and I am SO glad DS will go back to getting services in Plymouth when he goes back there, because they are shit. I work for the Trust next door, and we have our own troubles (mostly financial, natch), but we are streets better than NSFT.

Has Sunak had more resets and relaunches than Truss had days in office?

Notonthestairs · 27/04/2024 18:46

"41 now"

Does this also reduce numbers of letters?

BIossomtoes · 27/04/2024 18:49

Is it a record for a government to halve its majority in one term?

Alexandra2001 · 27/04/2024 18:50

Poulter? appears to have resigned to cause maximum damage to Sunak, his stated reason is v weak, the Tories haven't been interested in public services ever.

Probably not, since it requires 15% of the parliamentary party and the last drop out changed the numbers so I suppose this one wont.

Certainly the timing is thought through to cause Sunak to lose any momentum he might have got going into the local elections this week.

Russian mole then.

Russian mole then.

Philby, Burgess, Maclean, Blunt, Cairncross and Sunak... though tbh Cameron or Johnson would be a better fit as they attended Eton....

Especially since I think Sunak is supposed to be on the politics shows tomorrow morning.

bombastix · 27/04/2024 19:43

This is dodgy. And very worrying by Conservative members

Must be bad if it makes Plymouth look good.

It really is. My DS has had excellent support in Plymouth, both for his physical and mental health issues. He's living here with me while he has a year out and fortunately hasn't had any escalation in his needs, and our local GP surgery has a GP in the practice who is just superb on mental health, so he's been very lucky. But I know far too many people locally who have been very badly let down.

I hope those posts have been reported

fabio12 · 27/04/2024 20:23

It doesn't take long for the ULEZ hate to descend into racism. I really hope they can discover if this is personal views of the Tories posting or if they have been put up to it as part of their work. Where is Gove with his line in the sand about what constitutes hate speech when you need him?

fabio12 · 27/04/2024 20:26

"An earlier register of interests shows she was head of operations for a political consultancy founded by a former consultant at Cambridge Analytica."

Also want to say I told you so - knew they were using the same tactics as they did in the ref for Vote Leave. It hasn't dated well, thankfully.

tobee · 27/04/2024 20:45

Driving to my parents the other week I passed some Ulez protestors in a group by a roundabout. They looked unhinged.

LittleBowSheep · 27/04/2024 21:01

I think it's a good thing that Poulter has defected. Yes, he could have and should have done it sooner. But the fact that he's standing down at the next election means that he didn't have to do this at all. It sends out a good message if nothing else. Not that Sunak will be bothered, he's far too stupid to see it.
