One of my siblings lives in Scotland and is a die hard SNP supporter who despises Labour in its current form.

Last time we spoke, sibling was adamant that Labour would not get a majority in Westminster and that they would need the SNP to form a coalition.

HannibalHeyes · 27/04/2024 13:09

Nothing at all dodgy going on in this government, no...

I wish a candidate or their rep would come to my door. The only time this happened was John Nicholson who hoped I'd bond with him as a fellow 'islander'.

Notonthestairs · 27/04/2024 13:18

The only door knocker's we've had over the last decade have been L/Ds. Haven't seen anything of the Cons or Labour in years (not even posters up).
In our old house Corbyn used to do the rounds - I'll credit him that he listened as much as he talked and responded to direct questions.

AdamRyan · 27/04/2024 13:22

When my local MO came door knocking he was preceded by scouts. It was a lovely day and I was outside watching one of my kids playing.

This woman came and said my (deeply despised by me) MP would love to chat to me, how about I popped inside and put some lippy on and they would take a photo of me with him AngryGrin

I told her I had no desire to speak with him, due to his policies and performance and certainly didn't want a photo.

And lipstick FFS. I am not some kind of object to make the MP look good.

Now I've properly outed myself as many of my friends know this story.

The almost unbelievably stupid policy of checking food 22 miles away from the point that it enters the country and expecting people smuggling dodgy food (and god knows what else tbh) into the country to be honest begins on Tuesday.

DuncinToffee · 27/04/2024 13:53

And we will pay for that with an increased shopping bill

I’m waiting for it to turn up in the 50p bargain section. It sounds like an absolute hoot. Although I realise comedy wasn’t what she was going for.

Like Lee Macks autobiography. I know, what have I ever done to him ? And you spread mustard don't you ?

With so few copies sold, do we think they might become something of a collectors item?

fabio12 · 27/04/2024 16:16

Surely 2,200 copies is one for every paper and magasine to review and possibly any friends and family (she's probably made the party buy them too). Makes you wonder what the publishing house thought would happen really.

I see the civil servants are meant to go to Rwanda on "a rota" system. So they can't even settle into the role. They can't seem to decide if it is a safe country or a deterrent, can they? https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/home-office-civil-servants-relocate-rwanda-b2535612.html

"He [Rishi] has described the Rwanda plan as an “indispensable deterrent”, despite it being plagued by a series of setbacks since the deal was signed two years ago.
Rishi Sunak has made stopping the boats a key pledge (PA Wire)
The law declares Rwanda is a safe country and seeks to ensure the scheme – ruled unlawful by the Supreme Court – is legally watertight.
Officials are now working to put the plan into action, with Mr Sunak suggesting the first plane carrying asylum seekers could depart in July.
It has sparked criticism from international leaders including French president Emmanuel Macron, who denounced Mr Sunak’s deportation plan as the politics of “cynicism” and a betrayal of European values.
Mr Macron also warned it would be “ineffective”, just days after the scheme – designed to give thousands a one-way ticket to the African country – was approved.
Fran Heathcote, general secretary of the PCS union which represents civil servants, said: “This chaotic implementation of a chaotic policy is symptomatic of a chaotic government."

Home Office asking civil servants to move to Rwanda

The Rwanda bill finally became an act of parliament on Thursday after months of pushback and debate

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/home-office-civil-servants-relocate-rwanda-b2535612.html

fabio12 · 27/04/2024 16:22

Bit got chopped off the end of my last post
“We were not consulted about our members being expected to go to Rwanda to work. We’ll be raising issues with the Home Office about our members’ welfare if they travel to Rwanda, where they’ll be living, how they’re managed, who’s managing them, which jurisdiction do they come under – the UK or Rwanda?”
The Home Office has been contacted for a comment."

@fabio12 I saw on Twitter that the publishing company is owned by Michael Ashcroft and is more akin to a vanity publishing company, she only got around £2,000 as an advance

fabio12 · 27/04/2024 16:26

I guessed it was self published but that's certified for me the Tory MP's are the main readership. I bet you they've claimed it on expenses.

Conservative MP Daniel Poulter defects to Labour www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-68913287

BIossomtoes · 27/04/2024 17:25

He took his time, didn’t he? I’m surprised Labour want him.

tobee · 27/04/2024 17:27

Chips away at the majority 🤷🏻‍♀️😀?

IClaudine · 27/04/2024 17:28

Could this be a sign that Sunak really is going to call a GE next week?

Sorry just read the article and he is standing down at the GE.

pointythings · 27/04/2024 17:30

Well, that's going to look great for the Tories. <smirk>

Took him long enough to realise.....

He has an absolute bloody nerve. He was a health minister when Lansley "reformed" the NHS, causing untold damage and wasting millions.
