They don't care how much it costs, as long as it means they can see furriners suffer. Especially black and brown furriners.

This is it isn't it. Write a cheque for £600 million and pretend it will go away.

I've taken to wondering, if might not have been simpler for Sunak rather than legislating that Rwanda was safe, passing legislation that says there is no one arriving illegally in the UK. Wouldn't it be cheaper also?

I thought we were led to believe he was meant to be good with money?

The existing legislation already said that. It’s not illegal to arrive by unorthodox means if you claim asylum at the first available opportunity 🤷‍♀️

Are you saying that Sunak has concocted a problem in order to spend £600million on it?

I hope he has shares in Rwanda, else it makes no sense.

cardibach · 23/04/2024 18:04

Amazingly, @JessS1990 that seems to be the case. I’m gobsmacked I tell ya.

Me too! He must have shares or some of the cronies will have an opportunity to make money they only do something if it’s adds millions to the already overstuffed offshore accounts they hold.

HannibalHeyes · 23/04/2024 18:52

I'm pretty sure Infosys (Rwanda) Ltd will be playing a big role...

Zonder · 23/04/2024 19:15

Well I'm still wondering where I can get some of these advacados from as I'm trying to do my Ocado order and I still don't like tofu.

I mean I have to give the man credit.
Create an imaginary enemy, stir up hatred of them, then create a policy to deport that imaginary enemy at great expense and no little fanfair.
Its creative, brilliant almost.

You’d think the GMC would have better things to do. It appears you can spread all sorts of misinformation about covid vaccines and not get struck off but holding a placard is a step too far if the government have decided to crack down on environmental protests.

Have I understood correctly that Sunak expects UK GDP to fall so that soon we will be spending 2.5% of it on defence?

JessS1990 · 23/04/2024 20:21

I might be missing something.

Suggests that migrants will be notified 12 days before any flight to Rwanda. Even if they aren't going to go down a legal appeal, are they actually just going to sit around in their posh hotel that we are paying for waiting to go on the flight, or might they perhaps disappear?

I mean I have been led to believe that these people are some of the most darstedly devious people around, so possibly they might just work it out too?

Rwanda: Why a migrant plane won’t be taking off anytime soon

The Rwanda bill has finally been approved - but planes won't be taking off imminently.

RafaistheKingofClay · 23/04/2024 20:30

IIRC we can’t keep track of the ones we haven’t told we’re sending to Rwanda. We’ve lost loads of those. Although to be fair some of them might have left the country but we’re not sure.

Presumably if they demonstrate proper English values like this they won’t be selected for a flight.
Nothing more English than a gang of football thugs getting together for a St George’s day piss up and fight.

Flag worshipping appears to be a thing at the moment

The typo "advacado" is the funniest thing about it.

The only produce I think of when I see Anderson is 🍆

Do you think he has any idea that St George wasn't actually English? And that there is no evidence to suggest that he even stepped foot there?

Does he have any idea that the flag is actually the flag of Genoa and has been adopted by many other people and countries over the years?

He thinks that every time he is anywhere in the world and he sees the flag that it is there because of England?

He and Reform deserve each other.

DuncinToffee · 23/04/2024 22:12

Does Anderson think? I doubt it.

I know the Conservatives defence spending announcement was nothing but fluff but this is ridiculous-

I'm really not sure how it's possible to find £75bn down the back of the sofa'"

@SophyRidgeSky shares her thoughts after the UK government promised to increase defence spending to 2.5% of GDP by 2030

Conservative source: “It’s not down the back of the sofa. It’s fully costed from r&d and civil service headcount counts that we’d announced”

x.com/sophyridgesky/status/1782850877348352267?s=46&t=Uw4lJNwxFZFnX0Xs3doHYg

The civil service is only around 10% of the entire public sector and the annual pay bill is around £14b. Not sure anything announced up until now on headcount reduction makes much of a dent in £75b.

I think they veered off the agreed route and the police tried to stop them. At which point all hell broke loose.

At some point the Met asked Westminster pubs to shut by 7.30 tonight and Conservative post aren’t very happy. I’d imagine the pub landlords would rather shut than have their pub trashed by football hooligans though.

Sunak going full Orwell yesterday. WAR! Anderson and Suella's boys in full HATE mode. Thanks for the lovely cheering photos of pets and flowers, still hope for us all. Off to post my postal vote. Chose least worst option.

Making unfunded spending commitments like this are very easy when, chances are, you will not be in power in a few months.

Sunak also lied (again) he said the spending starts today, the fact is, apart from the 500m to Ukraine, there is not a penny extra for defence in this current spending round.

Its quite incredible the Tories aren't being picked up on this.....

War footing??? total BS, private companies aren't going to suddenly up production unless they have firm orders ie spending commitments from the MOD.

Just electioneering, jingoistic crap (on St Georges Day) whilst conveniently forgetting they have run down the armed forces over the last 14 years despite the very obvious threats from Russia.

If he was serious, they'd have announced all this at the budget and not cut NI instead (another unfunded pledge)
