Rwanda has never agreed to take all of the asylum seekers. It agreed to 200 as an exchange.

200 people. And how many millions has it cost for those 200 people who may or may not make it on to a plane?

Exactly. At least the Tories will never, ever be able to portray themselves as the party of fiscal responsibility again.

They never really were but somehow that has bypassed the media & a lot of the electorate.

I ve never understood that "claim" ..... they have, everytime that they ve been in Govt, wrecked the economy, from failing to invest N.Sea oil revenues, instead of short term tax cuts to Black Monday to Austerity and now Brexit, Covid Waste, not least Sunaks CV Business loans, most of which were fraudulent, even Hunts NI cuts, huge costs, little or no benefit.

Has everyone seen Lee Anderson's 'advocado' video?

The man is the gift that keeps on giving.

AdamRyan · 23/04/2024 16:15

Noooo
Off to Google.

I just heard gerbil features sunak on the radio talking about how companies selling in the defence sector would meet procurement rules on social value and sustainability because, he said, what could be more ethical than defending your nation?

Also apparently has found ££ for defence, setting up a new private sector "innovation" body that won't be hampered by red tape. Sounds like code for something else to me.

BIossomtoes · 23/04/2024 16:15

I can’t find it 🥲

Flag worshipping appears to be a thing at the moment

The typo "advacado" is the funniest thing about it.

The only produce I think of when I see Anderson is 🍆

More tetchy Sunak

https://x.com/AdamBienkov/status/1782785131649937498

Rishi Sunak intervenes to block the NATO General Secretary from answering a question about Sunak's Government losing the next general election to Labour, saying it "wouldn't be appropriate" for Jens Stoltenberg to answer

And Pippa Crerar's explanation for the question:

To be clear: this was not a question about domestic politics - it was about our long-term defence commitment.

If, as polls suggest, the Tories lose next election then all their future plans go with them.

Anybody who cares about our security will want to know what comes next

Is an advocado basically an avocado that works in marketing?

Notonthestairs · 23/04/2024 16:23

They've just reiterated Johnsons pledge to increase defence spending to 2.5% havent they?

As has been pointed out by Sam Freedman they haven't included a spending review because they know full well they won't be carrying it out.

He also says that every single non protected department - so Justice, Home, Local Government, Housing and Transport - would have to have their budgets cut to austerity levels for this to happen.

So it's a load of old shit - or further services in this country are going to completely vanish.

Yes they have, as well as copying Labour's funding pledge

And they wonder why Labour policies are being kept close to Starmer’s chest.

Notonthestairs · 23/04/2024 16:32

We really are at the stage that they tell flat out lies to keep a toe hold on power.

I really hope that some in our media are ready to hold them to account and fact check every bloody thing that comes out of their mouths.

On behalf of the Labour Party, I wish everyone a happy St George’s Day.

Let us be proud of our national identity, confident on the world stage, and sure of our country’s future.

I’m not sure if I’m going all conspiracy theorist but it struck me today that Sunak staged his Parliament will sit until the Rwanda Act is passed yesterday so it would either be passed today (if it passed after midnight) or would be in the news today, thus linking it to St George’s Day.

Exactly. All the Reform UK twats on MN harping on about Starmer not having the solution to immigration etc. They are not very politically astute, are they?

I am a very irritable leftie today.

That is offensive to gerbils.

Notonthestairs · 23/04/2024 17:18

I dont understand the thinking here -

With the Rwanda plan now passing Parliament, Britons are divided in their support for the plan, think it is not good value for money, and in any case don't expect deportations to ever happen

Support: 41%
Oppose: 41%

Good value for money: 16%
Not good value for money: 50%

Likely that migrants will be deported to Rwanda: 30%
Unlikely: 50%

While 69% of 2019 Tory voters support the Rwanda plan, they tend to think it is not good value for money (by 41% to 27%), and that is unlikely migrants will ever be deported to Rwanda (by 49% to 40%)

Tory voters support the plan but don't think it's good value for money!

IClaudine · 23/04/2024 17:21

They don't care how much it costs, as long as it means they can see furriners suffer. Especially black and brown furriners.
