David Lloyd causing problems with cheap 14 day trial

Springtime43 · 21/04/2024 17:35

Has anyone else experienced this at their branch of David Lloyd? Over the past few days I began to wonder about a few ‘unusual’ new faces, particularly one lady in a fitness class who didn’t smell too great. I heard a couple of other members talking, they thought ‘she’s here on some sort of scholarship’? But David Lloyd need to be careful, if they want to charge high fees this isn’t great for the customer experience.? Thank god it’s only temporary.

It's like Benidorm! Fury as upmarket David Lloyd lures 'undesirables'

Members of David Lloyd clubs are up in arms after the chain began to admit 'undesirables' on cheap temporary memberships who act like 'it's Benidorm' inside the premises, it was reported yesterday.

I must admit last year on one of these cheap fortnights a group of young women did come and dye their long hair jet black in the showers. The showers at my DL give me the boak at the best of times as the shower water runs down the length of cubicles to the drain at the bottom.

So unless you’re in the end one, as you’re showering other peoples soap suds , pubes (and kids piss) is running over your feet.

Someone did complain about the hair dye and reckoned they’d had their feet dyed. 😁😁

Where is this 2 week trial? I can't see it on the DL website?

It only applies to some gyms.

There's no trial in ours, and even so it's a bit like Love Island some evenings in the spa. There was also a couple caught shagging in the steam room. There's a lot of entitlement around people parking their Lamborghinis in the disabled spaces so they don't get damaged. I love it though, it's nothing like any Council gym I've been to.

Springtime43 · 23/04/2024 07:18

I'm slightly mystified you have genuinely taken offense with the fact someone not as well off as you is trying a gym! And then has the total lack of self awareness to post about it.
How sad is your life that you begrudge those you view as below you?

@LilyJessie where did I say I had any sort of issue with other people’s finances? My comment was about someone, who needed a shower, being near me in a fitness class.

Oh wow! 😱

I was in Fortnum and Mason yesterday doing my weekly grocery shop, when I happened across the most frightful oik. I asked if he had taken a wrong turn into the shop, but he replied he was merely there to stock up on special offer crab pate before heading off to take advantage of the cheap trial at David Lloyd. How very dare he?

plumcake2924 · 23/04/2024 08:39

'There was also a couple caught shagging in the steam room'

I can't think of anything worse, I feel faint just sitting in a steam room!

I've got a theory that solidly middle-class types who are less hung up on labels are very happy with the council leisure centres, whereas other demographics might view the "exclusive" brandedness of something like David Lloyd as aspirational.

LilyJessie · 23/04/2024 08:49

@Springtime43

It's painfully obvious what you mean and you're kidding yourself if you now backtrack and state anything else.

Let's take your original post alone...

  1. Your unnecessary use of quotations around the word unusual.
  2. The utterly ridiculous reference (and pointless anecdotal addition) to you overhearing someone saying this lady needed a scholarship.
  3. Your insinuation that David Lloyd needs to be careful with letting people in that don't meet your standards, else they lose clients.
  4. Your thanking of god it is only temporary.

I mean come on! Heaven forbid these unusual, scholarship using, dangerous for business (in your eyes) human beings attend the same class near you.

At best, this was a conversation between you and your gym management team if a single customers hygiene was offending you. To try a create a discussion on a forum for one lady smelling in one gym class is unbelievable.

My unsolicited advice, get over yourself.

My main driver for joining David Lloyd was the outdoor pool

No it wasn't. You followed it up with But David Lloyd need to be careful, if they want to charge high fees this isn’t great for the customer experience.? Thank god it’s only temporary.

so, you don't want Poor People in your precious posh gym and are glad the trials are temporary.

Whatifthehokeycokey · 23/04/2024 08:55

I did the 14 day trial at David Lloyd. I didn't smell any different from anyone else at the gym, though.

I have to say- the place was filthy! There was a biscuit in soft play and the exact same biscuit was there in the same place a week later. Ditto a piece of rubbish in the cup holder on one of the treadmills. I'm pretty sure my son god hand, foot and mouth there.

Yes I think this is true. Or the very rich go somewhere actually decent like Nuffield.

NasiDagang · 23/04/2024 08:57

Horrible, smelly people! Definitely cancel your membership OP. In fact don't go out at all, there are too many common people out there.🙄

AIstolemylunch · 23/04/2024 09:01

Have you heard yourself? Incredible.

sulkingsock · 23/04/2024 09:02

They do it at my local. I left in the end. They sit round the pool shouting at each other.

AIstolemylunch · 23/04/2024 09:03

Where I live everyone avoids David Lloyd now as it's full of loud, flashy types that use it as childcare. I don't think it's as aspirational anymore as this OP thinks.

Nottodaythankyou123 · 23/04/2024 09:38

I saw this offer and was going to trial it to see if it’s something I’d use regularly. Then saw the news articles and Facebook comments by members about the “riff raff” and decided DL would have to pay me to spend time with those kinds of entitled idiots

Agreed, I used it for a while as it was the nearest one to work but it was full of people who looked - and behaved- liked they'd made their money from drug deals.

Elebag · 23/04/2024 10:01

I go to an excellent, and clean, local authority sports centre. I can assure you we get really smelly people in there too. They re-wear gym tops with acrid BO on them.

I've complained twice with no luck and I'm now occasionally avoiding the classes with the culprits in.

Now, now OP you are being disingenuous. Stop fibbing to yourself.

Your thread title explicitly references problems caused by cheap deal.

Sounds like a finance issue to me. And your linking the cheapness to one person's inability to maintain good personal hygiene is a classist issue.

Had you really not realised you're a snob? 🤔

Treelichen · 23/04/2024 10:15

Oh I don't mean every customer at DL, or you specifically - possibly moreso the trial membership attendees might fit in that category?

BIWI · 23/04/2024 11:56

I'm going to my DL gym this afternoon, for a swim (in the indoor pool though), so I'll have a look out for these discusting, rediculous chavvy types.

FFS.

CaptainCarrot · 23/04/2024 12:46

‘Unusual’ new faces? What do you mean by that?
