David Lloyd causing problems with cheap 14 day trial

Has anyone else experienced this at their branch of David Lloyd? Over the past few days I began to wonder about a few ‘unusual’ new faces, particularly one lady in a fitness class who didn’t smell too great. I heard a couple of other members talking, they thought ‘she’s here on some sort of scholarship’? But David Lloyd need to be careful, if they want to charge high fees this isn’t great for the customer experience.? Thank god it’s only temporary.

It's like Benidorm! Fury as upmarket David Lloyd lures 'undesirables'

Members of David Lloyd clubs are up in arms after the chain began to admit 'undesirables' on cheap temporary memberships who act like 'it's Benidorm' inside the premises, it was reported yesterday.

I tried DL and wasn't impressed. There's always a mix of people, in my experience. The trial offers don't change the clientele they just make booking classes and securing equipment more difficult. I prefer a small, independent gym.

People sneering about 'undesirables' is very lower middle class aspirational.

PoppyCherryDog · 21/04/2024 20:33

Oh holly gosh how terrible we must keep the riff raff out!

I'm not sure that personal attack models better behaviour.

Ticktapticktap · 22/04/2024 18:36

The last time our gym had a trial period on they closed off the pool for the two weeks because couples were having sex in it...as if they'd just forgotten that water is actually see-through

Was simply responding to her original personal attack on people she deems below her. don’t give if you can’t take

Geebray · 22/04/2024 18:39

If David Lloyd are doing this then they're in financial trouble.

Yep. No wonder. It's overpriced and there's better options these days.

inneedofaglowup · 22/04/2024 18:45

I just wish these common folk would stick to the more common places like puregym and lidl. For the love of god let this woman go to her gym which is off limit for any common humans.

ClashCityRocker · 22/04/2024 18:49

Oh dear god...nothing worse than making it look like...gasp a leisure centre....it's not an article that helps itself really.

I am a member of DL and joined on the back of one of those £14 fortnights (as it was back then...).

Whilst I do find it frustrating when they're on as the pool is over cramped and you occasionally have to wait for a particular piece of equipment, I can't say I have witnessed any terrible behaviour - or at least an uptick of terrible behaviour. I have to say that I do find the staff reluctant to challenge poor behaviour at my branch (kids pissing about on gym equipment etc) but as this happens in times when the deal isn't on, it can't be attributed to this.

Frankly, the cheaper gyms around here are better maintained and better equipped - but I'd miss the outdoor pool and padel courts which aren't available elsewhere, plus my PT is excellent.

You sound vile tbh

SpaghettiWithaYeti · 22/04/2024 19:07

AHH nice try op.

I was a David Lloyd member for a while and honestly I think it was the least nice gym in terms of customers that I have ever been too.

I've used a lot from high end to leisure centres and actually would say DL was full of people with money but no class.

Weighnow · 22/04/2024 19:24

I cancelled my DL membership and now use the council leisure centre, I feel far more at home there 🤣

LaurieFairyCake · 22/04/2024 19:24

I used to be a member of David Lloyd until they put it up to over £300 a month Hmm

I think if I was paying that I'd feel entitled to be sniffy over the plebs bombing in the pool and fucking in the jacuzzi

The very least you can expect for £300 is a jizz free jacuzzi ...

This. I was a member at one in a very affluent area and yeah, there was tonnes of money around and (I was there on a paid membership through work) the behaviour was disgusting. Equipment was never respected, clean down after use or maintained. The pool was tired and sad. The staff were awful maybe even worse than the clients.

I'm now a member at puregym and I love it. 24 hrs access, clean and maintained machines. Great change rooms. And nice, normal people.

Seriously??? My local council gym is a tenth of that price.

Beatrixslobber · 22/04/2024 20:18

The DL gyms that I’ve seen aren’t all that. I don’t see the fascination, you are paying for the brand and have fallen for their advertising that aims to make you feel special.

I love the mix of people at my private gym, riffraff included. We are mostly police, hospital staff and students. We don’t poo in the shower and we don’t leave our protein powder to make a nice little crust around the sinks.

Yes thus is what I think. My gym is £35 a month. If I was paying 10x that, the very least I'd expect is some exclusivity. I did go to the family day at our local DL. We spent a fortune in the cafe. It was nice, but not 10x as nice as my gym, so people are literally paying to keep the rif raf out surely. I fancy going back to use the different pools and giant tap things.

Beatrixslobber · 22/04/2024 20:19

I read that as Jazz free jacuzzi. I like Jazz.

CornishPorsche · 22/04/2024 20:19

They've always let the riff raff in. I used to get one day passes in the summer then lounge by the outdoor pool when it was scorching! 😂

Ha. I know the guy in that article.

Cerealkiller4U · 22/04/2024 20:26

I’m in the two week thing right bow

It’s ok….not worth the £200 a month

for one there’s tons of hidden charges!!!

two they allow phones in the gym and swimming pool

today they completely shut the family time off! So yup. No way would I spend that on that

DailyFailstinks · 22/04/2024 20:36

I ended my DL membership last year. It wasn’t the two week trial people that were the problem it was the long-term members, families in particular. Parents seem to use it as a crèche and as a PP has noted, it’s the ones in the private school uniforms who were the worst, running across tennis courts when people are playing to give an example. Staff were completely disinterested.

Heatherbell1978 · 22/04/2024 20:41

Our DL doesn't do the cheap offers as it's new but the members are horrendous. Big groups of lads in the hot tubs with their phones, feral kids, constant theft...not been members for long and cancelling as soon as we get the chance. It's been eye-opening. I'll stick to running.
