Weird things that feel nice

I’m currently using ear drops due to an ear infection and I’d forgotten how much I love that feeling when you put them in, then after a few seconds they bubble and trickle down. I love that little tickle in your inner ear.

It got me thinking about other sensory things I like - another one is standing in bare feet on a thick piece of cardboard and feeling the “cells” of the cardboard squish.

Am I the only strange one or has anyone else got other weird but nice sensory feelings?!

The weight of someone lying full length on top of me. It reminds me of being a teenager and snogging at a party I think.

Anything to do with head and scalp

Yes to fabric between toes

And writing with a fountain pen whose nib has adjusted to my writing so it glides, on thick cream paper.

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 18/04/2024 23:55

Riding my bike on the very smooth concrete of the parking garage where it's kept.

Blankname22 · 19/04/2024 00:00

Lying on the floor face down and some small children climbing and bashing my back.

Flapearedknave · 19/04/2024 00:03

Day old socks, so they are silky (not stinky!) and rubbing my feet together.

Messing with my facial piercings.

ThreeEggOmlette · 19/04/2024 00:03

I can't believe nobody's mentioned the thrill of popping the foil lid on top of new coffee/jar of sweetener.

And, slightly TMI ... When you really need a wee and you finally find time go...

SoreAndTired1 · 19/04/2024 00:29

A nice good sneeze. It makes me feel better all over my body.

LibraryUser · 19/04/2024 00:33

Really hard pressure in a circular motion on the top point of your foot (the bit where there is a bump between toes and leg). Enough pressure to the point that it is almost painful.

Weird but amazing.

TheCoffeeNebula · 19/04/2024 00:45

Biting polystyrene. The squeaky feeling.

Having people play with my hair. Watching other people have their hair styled. Watching people concentrate on something. That twilight zone feeling half way between awake and asleep.

BeachHutsAndDeckchairs · 19/04/2024 00:56

Putting the collander into a full sink and pressing it down, forcing water through the holes so it slowly sinks.

Koptforitagain · 19/04/2024 01:02

Nothing to do with ears. 🤮

I used to love the smell in a dry cleaners shop.

I've found, purely by chance, that the
Nip + Fab Nightime Serum smells exactly like the dry-cleaners. I love if!

wetpebbles · 19/04/2024 05:39

pulling a long clump of hair from the bath plug

I like fabric between my toes. Like a fold of the sheet, or the edge of something. Can't explain

Yes! This is me, what a feeling!

Ladybird69 · 19/04/2024 06:06

@Wren77 oh wow yeah that takes me back to my childhood and rushing to open mums new catalogue not to see the toys but to smell the pages! I need a catalogue to sniff now lol. Thanks for reminding me of that.

Whatineed · 19/04/2024 06:10

There is a Brazilian Portuguese word for enjoying having your hair played with - Cafune.

I enjoy opening those cupboard style freezer doors in supermarkets and huffing the crystallised icy air (whilst pretending to look for something). The smell and sensation on my face is lovely.

I used to make DS stand by the front door when he came home from school on cold days and sniff his face like a labrador too. 😂😬

Ladybird69 · 19/04/2024 06:22

I have a super fluffy ragdoll cat and I love to rub her paw all over my face it’s just so soft.

MissHarrietBede · 19/04/2024 08:45

Watching someone closely examine something, especially if the item is in their hands and being turned over in all directions.

Watching someone reading and slowly turning the pages.

Watching someone intently looking up at a roof.

Definitely having my hair messed with!

All of the above send me into a blissed out zombie state, with scalp tingles and a feeling of utter contentment.

After the corn has been harvested, stepping on the remaining stem so the roots on one side pop out. Niche, but sooo satisfying...

Shutupyoutart · 19/04/2024 09:06

crunching in fresh snow or crunchy autumn leaves, popping bubble wrap either standing on it to hear the pop or twisting it in my hands, having my hair brushed by someone else, ditto with back scratched, playing with the kids sensory toys in particular the ones with water beads, sand on bare feet, scorching hot showers, putting my finger in hot candle wax, the smell of chlorine, there's prob a lot more but can't think of any more of the top of my head lol

rollonretirementfgs · 19/04/2024 09:48

Brushing my hair when I've just had my extensions taken out... blissful

Running really hot water over a gnat bit or other itchy situation

Washing my face with a hit flannel. Had a mud mask on my back recently and they put a hot towel over it.... omg heaven!

Chickenwing2 · 19/04/2024 21:55

-Flipping the pillow over and putting my face on the cold side.
-Head/face/back/foot massage.
-Hair being played with
-sniffing my dog/rubbing my face into his fur
-being the little spoon

  • I also occasionally get the wield/tingly/content feeling when watching people concentrate or explain something- I've never heard anyone else describe this before until this thread
-cold wet towel on my forehead when not feeling well
Thevelvelletes · 19/04/2024 22:08

The polystyrene one..made me wince 😝

I am happy to tell you that you have ASMR and there is a whole world of videos on youtube where you can watch people examining things closely, giving or getting massages, and turning book pages to your heart's content Grin

@asquideatingdough Half Man Half Biscuit wrote a song about there is nothing better in life than writing on the sole of your slipper with a biro!
