Thread 13 - TalkLair: “I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.”

(Previous thread 12).

Looks like spring has sprung! Tulips, apple blossom and early hay fever are upon us. In the TalkLair, we remain hunkered down keeping cosy and warm, because "something something 'til May is out". The hearth is glowing, the walls covered in dubious artwork, books by non-approved authors line the shelves, rugs are down on the floors (and assorted pets curled up on them).

We just won’t mention the gnawed bones of our prey over there in the corner of the cave…

My face hurts after being in this position for the entire film 🤨

@duc748 I quite fancy Civil War. I’ll probably wait until I can rent it though, I struggle with cinema!

duc748 · 08/05/2024 00:56

I had the whole auditorium to myself. Cinemas are really struggling.

Hello. I just saw on the Other Site that it looks like Dominoboy has passed.

Oh that's really sad. Did anyone know him IRL?

NoBinturongsHereMate · 08/05/2024 19:27

Very sad news. Thanks for letting us know, @Lalgarh .

DeanElderberry · 09/05/2024 07:57

Excellent fungi, they're really spoiling us, Phallus multicolor and Phallus rubicundi.

DeanElderberry · 09/05/2024 07:59

Don't see those every day.

Some lovely clothes.

And some other clothes.

That is a marvellous thread!

It is, thank you. I'd lost my subscription again, so I've just caught up with the talk of the lightening and the hot water bottle thread. I am grateful for both lots of information - MrPSB had a HWB last night, so I'll be checking. John Lewis will be confused about why there is a spike in HWB purchases in May.

SinnerBoy · 09/05/2024 09:08

I wonder how Imaan Hammam feels about being compared to Phallus multicolor (Yellow bridal veil stinkhorn)?

A friend of mine is a mycologist so I've just sent him that X link.

artant · 09/05/2024 15:18

Some gorgeous mushrooms there. Same can’t be said for many of the clothes, sadly.

And this is why I have never, and will never, give my keys to an estate agent 😳

Kucinghitam · 10/05/2024 14:10

Lovely weather these past couple of days! Low twenties, bright but not too sunny, only the lightest breeze.

My gigantic dark red peonies are all bursting into bloom, I have brought some indoors to decorate the house.

They're very impressive and the colour is amazing?

Britinme · 10/05/2024 14:42

Gorgeous peonies!

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 10/05/2024 14:43

Beautiful!

Good idea to bring some indoors too as we're forecast heavy rain over the weekend.

VictorianBigot · 10/05/2024 15:12

Stunning!

My jasmine took a bit of a kicking over winter for some reason, so I’ve been nursing it back to health and it’s paid off… lots of buds, some which look like they’re about to flower.

Now I need to do the same for my poor olive trees that don’t get enough sunlight. They’re constantly under attack from tortrix moth caterpillars which is stunting their growth (they prey on the young leaves) so I’ve just bought a pheromone trap.

I’ve got violas and trailing lobelia in planters. The lobelia haven’t flowered yet but I’m hoping for an exuberant display very soon.

duc748 · 10/05/2024 15:25

My Mum had a peony Bush when I was a kid, and I always thought they were ugly things, but those are magnificent, Kuc! Could one of you experts identify these flowers for me? I am not, by any stretch, a gardener!

I think it might be a fuschia

NoBinturongsHereMate · 10/05/2024 15:28

No, it's aquilegia. Fuchsia has oval leaves and doesn't have the 'horns' behind the petals.

Britinme · 10/05/2024 15:32

It's a bit too early for outside planters here. We still have the occasional night in May where the temperature dips just below freezing. I nurtured a lot of geranium cuttings through the winter and they are getting a bit leggy on account of being slightly deprived of light next to a largish window, but I think if I put them out it's asking for a frost. We're off on holiday on the 19th and I might cross my fingers and put them out by then, but we have a neighbour coming in to feed the cats and I'd have to ask her if she doesn't mind watering the planters as well if we don't get rain.

We are driving up to Nova Scotia, with plans to explore Cape Breton and revisit the wonderful gardens at Annapolis Royal, and we're also going to Prince Edward Island where we will meet up with JTT poster antimatter. DH still goes on JTT, mainly on the Trumpocalypse thread and the Doom thread and a train thread he likes. I will, of course, visit all the Anne of Green Gables stuff while on PEI! On the way back, we'll stay over a couple of nights with some friends who live near Bangor, Maine (which they will tell you is not pronounced Banger, as their anthem will tell you).
