New thread. I took the liberty - the old one was at 999!

@Notonthestairs I was just saying the same to Ds!

Yeah, they are barely concealing themselves now.

Sources suggesting that of 67 MPs who voted against smoking ban, 58 were Tories and 6 of those were ministers: Kemi Badenoch, Julia Lopez, Alex Burghart, Steve Baker, Lee Rowley and Andrew Griffith

Interesting that Lee Rowley, Alex Burghart and Julia Lopez were all on Badenoch's leadership campaign team...

Striking that all those on the right of the party with leadership ambitions voted against Sunak - Badenoch, Braverman, Jenrick & Truss.

They just can't wait to get rid of him.

Why don't they just get on with it then?

Or are they all mouth and no trousers?

Notonthestairs · 16/04/2024 21:07

I think they probably need to pin failures in the local elections on him first.

That’s why I’m gobsmacked he didn’t call a GE on the same day. He seems intent on handing them ammunition.

I see the new Deputy Chairman voted No as well - not very supportive is he.

Also all of the DUP … which is surprising, surely they regard smoking as unchristian!

I am increasing thinking that Sunak is a deep plant intent on creating the destruction of the Tory party.

You might well be on to something there.

A senior Tory Lords source tells me they are furious Rwanda legislation not being voted on by MPs this side of Easter, pours scorn on idea Royal Assent doesn’t change and says they won’t be able to get anything like the turnout of yesterday after treating them with contempt yesterday.

There was a huge whipping operation to get that turnout yesterday because they were told it was an emergency and urgent.

After sending MPs home on 1 line whip, this influential tory peer said they can “forget it” getting anything like that turnout again.

Found this on a previous thread from the last time the Rwanda bill was in the Lords. They did whip it last time and then pissed off their peers by kicking it into the long grass after telling them it was urgent. Poor underpaid peers having to turn up to vote.

Notonthestairs · 16/04/2024 21:32

Oh yes, I'd forgotten about that.

RafaistheKingofClay · 16/04/2024 21:39

Hopefully it can bounce back and forth a bit so that we’re nearer to an election and no flight will ever take off.

Rwanda may have to wait a bit for their next £50million.

BIossomtoes · 16/04/2024 21:50

They still need to find a flight provider. No idea how they’ll do that when even the Rwandan state owned airline won’t because of reputational damage.

Was the smoking vote a free vote?

IClaudine · 16/04/2024 22:28

Yes it was Tobee

tobee · 16/04/2024 22:45

Thanks @IClaudine . Thought it must have been.

Rishi Sunak will now use leased RAF Voyagers to fly migrants to Rwanda after airlines refused to take part

RAF personnel or AirTanker staff will be used to man the flights "whether they like it or not"

They'll probably buy their own plane as money seems no object as long as they get someone flown there Angry

itsgettingweird · 17/04/2024 06:28

Hadn't seen the post about RAF planes.

It's even worse to be right Angry

Relying on RAF personnel to obey orders, huh?

Honestly, at this point anyone who lowers themselves to vote Tory can fuck off. I really hope no one I care about does, as I will never feel the same about them.

This is the most recent (only) polling I can find for Tees Mayor.

https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/news/24172359.new-poll-gives-labour-lead-tees-valley-mayoral-election/

Probably not as robust as the West Mids one, but perhaps an indication that Sunak will be in trouble on 3rd May.

Shock poll gives Labour a large lead in the Tees Valley Mayoral election

A new poll has revealed that Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen could lose his post in the upcoming election in May

What was striking about the article was that the original contract for flights was worth £78 million pounds.

In other news the costs to set up military barracks at Wethersfield and Scampton as asylum accomodation was assessed as £5 per site. It has actually cost £49 million and £27 million.
Wonder which Tory donors benefitted from that.

Piggywaspushed · 17/04/2024 08:19

Not sure how relevant it is to this thread since it's not a decision the government made, but happy to discuss Michaela Wink. Already mentioned Braverman's 'British' comment upthread.

Notonthestairs · 17/04/2024 08:19

Sorry that should read £5 million per site not £5!

L1ttledrummergirl · 17/04/2024 08:43

I wonder how many official objections to orders there will be from pilots when they receive those orders.
