It's the smirking when he demonises vulnerable people that gets me Angry Tory cruelty personified

He's probably having a "special moment" like the judge who needed 2 pairs of pants when he sentenced people to death in the1950s.

Statement from Mind

Rishi Sunak today announced plans to review the fit note system for people who aren’t well enough to work, with a focus on mental health.

His speech continues a trend in recent rhetoric that is stigmatising, harmful, and inaccurate.

The real problem isn’t the fit note system. It’s that mental health services are at breaking point after years of under investment.

When people seek help, they’re put on long waiting lists. And their mental health gets worse while they wait for help.

People need tailored support from mental health professionals to help them return to work. Not face threats of losing what little money they currently have to live on.

Blaming people for the failure of a system meant to support them is unhelpful. We urge the government to rethink its approach to this issue.

Tufton street/policy exchange AGAIN

🙈

Sunak used to work at Policy Exchange didn't he?

Downing Street has heavily recruited from there. Founded by Gove and funded by Exxon (although I think it refuses to disclose donors).

I'm sure they gave our best interests at heart. 🙄

It will come as no suprise to anyone, Boris Johnson has broken Acoba rules for a third time

Boris Johnson broke official rules by refusing to declare his links with a hedge fund that organised his visit to meet with the Venezuelan president, the UK's anti-corruption watchdog finds.

No consequences ofcourse

I'd be happy to let him off this, if the charges of corporate manslaughter and corruption re the pandemic, and treason over the unlawful suspension of Parliament, were made and he ended up in court.

Though I'm not going to hold my breath.

Just when I think I couldn’t love him more …

🙈

Not fit for purpose is a good description of Policy Exchange, unless of course that purpose is robbing the poor to pay the rich.

Me too, I’m still waiting on response from my PiP renewal form which they hassled me to send back by the beginning of January, got a text on good Friday saying not to call & still being assessed, I feel sick every time I think about it.

Ds pip expired feb 24.

We got renewal forms about 8 months before and about 2 week to return them.

Got a letter about a week before it expired telling us it's been extended for a year as they haven't done reassessment and it'll be either be reassessed within that year or extended again.

itsgettingweird · 19/04/2024 17:25

😂😂😂 That's utterly inspired

I don't know many peers, but suspect this won't go down well with them.

RafaistheKingofClay · 19/04/2024 18:19

The Prime Minister’s spokesman said the amendment on exempting Afghans who helped British troops “is unnecessary” as the UK already has “safe and legal routes” for them to come to Britain.
He said the change would “create an unnecessary and dangerous incentive for these people to travel here illegally, which is precisely what this Bill is trying to avoid”.

WTAF! So he thinks people with a safe and legal route to get here are deliberately and seemingly unnecessarily taking an expensive and dangerous one on a small boat and the minute chance they may be one of the people sent to Rwanda is the thing that’s going to be a disincentive. Pull the other one.

Or perhaps his argument is that the safe and legal route is so badly run that it’s not enough of an incentive to asylum seekers, whose lives are in danger because they helped us, to not risk death on a small boat.

AdamRyan · 19/04/2024 18:27

I think his argument is that there are legal routes for Afghanis who supported the UK to come here so anyone using an illegal route would be a wrong'un.

Bit tone deaf to anyone who even vaguely followed the withdrawal from Afghanistan isn't it.

I think the mistake in your post was in this part.

"He thinks"

RafaistheKingofClay · 19/04/2024 18:34

That wouldn’t surprise me. After all at one point we weren’t accepting them without official papers that needed to be signed by the Taliban.

How would the Taliban know to sign the documents if they didn't know whether or not they had worked for us?

Good point. Maybe we left the documents behind on purpose so they would have the information they needed to complete the asylum requests.

As cunning as a fox that’s just been appointed professor of cunning at Oxford university.

Charles I suspended Parliament. So did Boris Johnson.

My lifelong opposition to the death penalty is the sole reason why the traitor Boris Johnson should not have the same fate as Charles I.

Same here, wouldn’t you just love a pit that they could be thrown into they are an unspeakable cabal of hatred & division devoid of any humanity.
