What is the MOST irritating thing on Mumsnet?

5YearsLeft · 13/04/2024 04:43

I saw someone mention that something was “high on the list of most irritating Mumsnet things,” but I couldn’t find a post discussing that list. And now we have polls, I thought it might be interesting, especially “other” stuff.

Perhaps not so much irritating as pointless - those who post an AIBU, but then spend the next 40 pages telling us they are not, no matter what everyone else says.

see I quite like those as people get increasingly irate.

what gets me is the lack of comprehension skills. ‘My 58 year old fit MIL is making me run round after her’…..and someone will pile in with respect the elderly…..

Willmafrockfit · 13/04/2024 06:59

oh the dementia suggestion about everyone in their 60s and above

Willmafrockfit · 13/04/2024 06:59

and the autism, yes may be, but the issue remains.

Those posters who seem to think everything will be 'outing'. No, your very common job wouldn't be fucking outing! Stop being so pretentious.

Also those name changers that have to announce it at the start of their thread. "Name changed as outing"🙄🙄

But I think the most irritating is the trans obsession as the most important political challenge of the time "I'm a single issue voter so of course I'll vote Conservative. No I don't care about children in extreme poverty, decrepit schools, over flowing prisons, working NHS staff using food banks etc etc etc. I must have the freedom to wash blood soaked underwear in a public sink and pop them back on"

No idea what threads you've read to come up with that invented narrative.

I haven't come across any posters who have indicated lack of interest in all other societal issues in favour of one issue only. I do see an active, informed community continually addressing the deeply problematic issues caused by gender ideology.

@EarringsandLipstick I think this poster was probably referring to the recent long-running post on AIBU where the OP said they wanted every woman in England to vote Tory for “women’s rights” https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/5037806-to-want-every-women-in-england-to-vote-tory-at-the-gr

To want every women in England to vote Tory at the GR | Mumsnet

People on the thread discussing two comedians who are divorcing taking the time to post that they've never heard of them - ok so don't comment.
Also loose and lose.
Alot - a lot
People can't spell.

Just came on to write this. Particularly when they’re snarky about it 🤣

tuvamoodyson · 13/04/2024 07:05

The complete over reactions and OTT drama! Someone puts a hand on your arm and asks you to move eg it immediately becomes ‘so he grabbed your arm and told you to eff off! I’m shaking with anger on your behalf OP! Police NOW!!’ And all the ‘reporting’ that goes on….I’ve never reported anyone in my life! And don’t get me started on the medical advice that gets handed out 🙈 MN would be the LAST place I’d come to for that!

treacledan71 · 13/04/2024 07:05

A nasty post turned back on the poster the other day. A woman was asking for recommendations for a walking pad in chat. Some person said she was lazy and do normally walking. Kept coming back with smart responses. Someone asked her why commenting and why was she mean and she come back saying it is the aibu section so I am saying she is unreasonable can do what I want. Was entitled. Someone went back and said no actually it's the chat section. The poster did say sorry but looked an idiot.

Well, its usually because it’s ‘super stressful in a niche industry’

I was!

Can I add being told you invented something when there is plenty of evidence to the contrary?

I am agreeing so hard here.

"Going on holiday with small DC is just same shit, different place"

So you get up at 6am on holiday, put on a shift dress, do the school/nursery run, commute to the office and wrangle spreadsheets all day, do you? It winds me up SO MUCH.

Covetthee · 13/04/2024 06:12

People who don’t add anything to a thread, just come along to post a comment to make themselves feel better. eg talking of a celeb death- poster comes along: ‘dont know who that is, so not fussed’

refusing to say their husbands hobby- we all know it’s bloody cycling 90% of the time lol

There was a thread recently where the OP mentioned "a common bug" but didn't want to say what bug it was in case it was outing 🤣 Turned out to be ladybirds. I'm sure I know who the poster is after reading that update (not!) 🤣🤣🤣

HonorGold · 13/04/2024 07:10

Saying “Me and DH went..” I don’t read threads if they start with ’Me’

Beargrumps22 · 13/04/2024 07:15

I hate it when you get interested in a thread usually something medical or relationships then when you go back it's been taken down, usually as it's a troll not genuine. waste of my time!

  1. Posters who request an opinion and then shoot you down in flames for giving a view.
  2. The fact that threads don’t “time out” and close after a certain period. I’ve been caught out by someone resurrecting a zombie thread and not noticing the date of the OP. OK, l accept l should have looked more carefully but it’s easy done.
  3. The lack of respect for some women by others. For example l was told on MN that they had names for girls like me when they were at school.

Use of DC. DH the DEAR really annoys me! Not many use Dear in this way in daily life... it's cringe, sick buckets. They're following like sheep.

I thought the D stood for darling... Which is probably worse 😂

stopringingme · 13/04/2024 07:19

Coshei · 13/04/2024 06:43

The obsession with trying to shoehorn ASD, ADHD, SEN etc. into any discussion as if it’s the answer for everything.
Especially irritating when it’s to criticise the OP for their viewpoint because they were irritated by someone. It usually takes only a few posts until someone dishes out the beloved “what if this person is autistic???”.

Also Dementia for anyone over a certain age.

LeaveTheClocksAlone · 13/04/2024 07:20

People saying "grow up" and people using "D" this and "D" that. It's so bloody stupid!

towhomitmayconcern · 13/04/2024 07:20

All of those things apply, but I find that no matter what the post is about, there is always some sanctimonious arse waiting to come and belittle the OP. I’d love to see if these people are on such a high horse in real life.

Bjorkdidit · 13/04/2024 07:21

People who ask questions that they could google the answer and find the correct one really quickly, eg how long you need left on your passport to go to Morocco, yet they think it's preferable to ask on here, wait an hour, get no answers so post a second post of 'anyone?' then get a load of contradictory answers where they will then quote one of the incorrect ones and say 'thanks everyone'.

The 'survey' threads where someone asks a question, usually about money that's really badly defined and where the answers got on here will be really misleading because Mumsnet is disproportionately affluent and once you've had a few people post that they're rolling in it, people who are struggling or merely fairly comfortable won't post. Then the OP comes back and says either 'oh I feel really rubbish now' or they'll say 'suckers, I have £10k spare left each month, I couldn't imagine how I'd manage if I only had £5k spare each month'.

AIBUs that are not AIBUs either because it's something like 'AIBU to ask where I should go on holiday' or because they want actual advice for a problem, which they will get, but they'll also get ten times more replies that are made up nonsense, picking apart irrelevant details like 'but you posted on another thread 8 months ago that your DD was 12 and now you're saying she's 14' or commenting on inconsequential SPAG mistakes amongst a tale of woe that involves struggles with serious illness, domestic abuse, debt etc.

WavyLines11 · 13/04/2024 07:21

Posters telling people to ring 101 when they mean 111 or vice versa.

Parking threads with no diagram.

themidimit · 13/04/2024 07:22

All the threads about issues that have occurred in school which tell the op 'go to Ofsted, the police, the MP, raise merry hell'. Normally it involves the op hearing their child's version of events and losing any sense of perspective. Always descends into 'all teachers are lazy, headteacher should be sacked'.
