What is the MOST irritating thing on Mumsnet?

5YearsLeft · 13/04/2024 04:43

I saw someone mention that something was “high on the list of most irritating Mumsnet things,” but I couldn’t find a post discussing that list. And now we have polls, I thought it might be interesting, especially “other” stuff.

OP posts:
Koptforitagain · 13/04/2024 04:45

People moaning about threads and posts, that they don’t have to read.

Berlinlover · 13/04/2024 04:53

People who can’t spell and don’t use punctuation.

BentFork · 13/04/2024 04:54

The vitriol & nastiness

People on the thread discussing two comedians who are divorcing taking the time to post that they've never heard of them - ok so don't comment.
Also loose and lose.
Alot - a lot
People can't spell.

SquashPenguin · 13/04/2024 05:02

All the bloody acronyms. They make it harder to read.

5YearsLeft · 13/04/2024 05:03

@Berlinlover @Hiker50 Well, I fucked up the poll - sorry. I should have taken out “trolls” and put both “people that correct spelling” and “people that can’t spell” so people could vote for either one. It’s too late for me to edit.

I can just about cope with the spelling, grammar, lack of comprehension, etc., but find most advice about teens on here atrocious.

Softycatchymonkeys · 13/04/2024 05:27

People that say “myself” inappropriately

to me they sound stupid

Remo22 · 13/04/2024 05:29

When the Op starts a thread then leaves other participants fighting
Ghosting us all

As well as too many acronyms

Is it Americans?

Lovehearts82 · 13/04/2024 05:37

I don't know why this irritates me but when the op uses the word "think" 😫.
So ... " I was grocery shopping today, think Aldi or Lidl"

@Remo22 , I get it. Cliffhangers drive me crazy on television. Why the hell would I want them on Mumsnet? And of course, it’s always popular threads. OPs don’t ghost a thread about trouble putting their car seat into a Vauxhall Zafira, or something.

Remo22 · 13/04/2024 05:39

Exactly 😂😂😂

Dustyblue · 13/04/2024 05:41

Not RTFT and posting away merrily. At least read all the OP's posts before going in all guns blazing 🙄

ChessieFL · 13/04/2024 05:45

People reanimating zombie threads.

ShawnBeams · 13/04/2024 05:50

The ‘D’ prefix. I think it’s dated, twee and irritating. It was undoubtedly useful back in the day before smartphones to use the quicker ‘DH’, but now? It’s just daft. And when posters use it for everything - ‘Dcat’, Ddog’, ‘Dnephew’…WHY? 😤

shoppingshamed · 13/04/2024 05:51

Remo22 · 13/04/2024 05:39

Exactly 😂😂😂

Posters not using the quote so you have no idea which comment they are agreeing with 😂

5YearsLeft · 13/04/2024 05:54

CupversusMug · 13/04/2024 05:31

Is it Americans?

Oh, no, it was actually posting the comment “who are they” or “don’t know who they are” or “never heard of them” on a thread about a celebrity. But I didn’t want to make this a TAAT. And I’ve heard hate for Americans, but I figured it’d be a bit of a dick move to make one of the poll options any Mumsnetter’s location.

letstrythatagain · 13/04/2024 06:00

The 'who? Never heard of them' responses.....instead of just doing a quick google search.

This annoys me the most. I click on posts and if I have no idea what the person is talking about then I don’t comment or google what it is. I don’t understand why they feel the need to post then.

Also the op not returning when it’s not going they way they expected .

Apologies. I was just being silly.

5YearsLeft · 13/04/2024 06:10

@CupversusMug Oh no, it’s all in good fun! I actually wouldn’t blame you. I wasn’t irritated but definitely aghast at that thread a few weeks ago where a MNer who lived in Maine said she was regularly taking her FIVE YEAR OLD hunting and shooting because it was a valuable skill. You should have seen my face, lol. Looked like: 😱

OP posts:
EasternEcho · 13/04/2024 06:11

Perhaps not so much irritating as pointless - those who post an AIBU, but then spend the next 40 pages telling us they are not, no matter what everyone else says.

Tlolljs · 13/04/2024 06:11

People who quote the whole first post. We know what you’re replying to, we’ve all just read it.

Covetthee · 13/04/2024 06:12

People who don’t add anything to a thread, just come along to post a comment to make themselves feel better. eg talking of a celeb death- poster comes along: ‘dont know who that is, so not fussed’

refusing to say their husbands hobby- we all know it’s bloody cycling 90% of the time lol
