If you are 5ft 3, how much do you weigh and how do you feel about it?

I've lost a couple of stone over the last year - I was a bit overweight at 11st 7 and am now 9st 7. I was a size 12-14, still a size 10-12 which I'm kind of disappointed about. Some days I still feel really chubby, other days I feel great. Which is normal, I suppose, taking into account time of the month and what my diet has been like. My next plan is to start exercising properly and tone up a bit.

I'm around 5ft 3 1/2 and have always weighed pretty much the same, give or take a few pounds, so 8st 3lb. I'm generally a size 8 but am bigger on the bottom so go for size 10 underwear. Can get away with xs on top. I don't look skinny as I've kept fit my whole adult life so have muscle and am toned.

PracticallyPerfectedIt · 12/04/2024 09:38

Even pre-kids without an ounce of fat on me and running/dancing/PT multiple times a week I wasn't under 9st. Confused

AtomicBlondeRose · 12/04/2024 09:41

5’ 3.75” (the three quarters is important!)

Currently 9 stone 3 but really working on weights and building muscle so have a 25inch waist and wear a size 6-8. Was below 9 stone but I think I'm adding muscle so scale creeping up without changing size. Was 11.5 stone at my heaviest and this was way too much for me personally.

Petrine · 12/04/2024 09:46

I’m 5’2” and weigh 8.5 stone. Age 68. Size 10

All my adult life I weighed 7 stone but gained weight after I retired. For some reason I’ve acquired larger breasts and I think at least some of my weight gain is down to having a 32GG bust now.

Well done. Mmm.. lots of humble bragging on here along the lines of "Oh, I'm so wobbly, my stomach is so big, i am 8st and need to get back to 7st 7...". I mean it's all relative but please those with very low weights be careful as some weights on this thread sound as unhealthy as being overweight.

For some people it is perfectly healthy though. Some people are naturally slim and don’t weigh much. They may have some wobbly bits too!

ohthejoys21 · 12/04/2024 10:07

I'm 5.5 and a half and 8.12st.. lost 3lb and aiming to lose another 8. So hard in middle age to keep it off through diet and weights with no injuries!

Caspianberg · 12/04/2024 10:07

Exactly. Despite always being around 8stone, I haven’t ever been on a diet or to the gym. I think I’m just very active day to day so it’s never mattered

Actually shocked at the amount of people who are around the 8 stone mark. Nobody I know in real life would be that small.

Most of my friends are.. they all look work out and look after themselves.

I think it's just because people are more likely to disclose their weight if they are on the lighter side, so I don't try ink it's reflective of the 5'3" population 🤣

*don't think

You do realise people have wildly different bone structures, bone density and muscle density, meaning they weigh a very different amount to someone of the same height?

Obviously I know that. I was referring to the multiple posts from people claiming they are "chubby". A 5 ft 3 woman in unlikely to be big boned and I don't think anybody would look at the average size 8 woman and think "Oh, she's chubby". It's almost competitive with some claiming they are around the 7 stone mark but still calling themselves overweight. I know weight is a personal thing and we all feel happy at a certain weight but having had experience with people with eating disorders, I would hate someone vulnerable to read the thread and think they are fat at a perfectly healthy weight.

Alfreddoeblin · 12/04/2024 10:26

5ft 2.5 and currently 10 stone 9. This is massive for me and I’m currently doing 16:8 diet so a few weeks ago I was just over 11. Pre kids I was consistently 8.5 stone. After kids around 10 despite gym 3 times a week, running, walking, spin.
I’ve got PCOS which makes losing weight hard and then last 2 years was ill with long Covid so wasn’t very active. Have really missed proper cardio exercise but hoping to join a gym this week and start swimming again.

Trinity65 · 12/04/2024 10:27

5.3 here

8 Stone 6 pounds and a size 10 in most things but 12 in others

I'm 5ft 3. If I gain just a few pounds from my ideal weight, my jeans feel uncomfortable, I can grab a large handful of belly fat and my thighs rub together. I'm allowed to think this about my own body without worrying about people with eating disorders.

You must know someone surely, even if you don't know them that well?

Even with the national rise in obesity, 8 stone or thereabouts really isn't that unusual for a woman under 5ft 4".

Xylophonics · 12/04/2024 10:38

I'm not 5 ft 3 and don't know what I weigh. If I did know I wouldn't be happy about it. That's why its best I don't know what I weigh.

If I was a size 10-12 I would be happy about that.

Are you in good health? That's something to be happy about.

TheBirdintheCave · 12/04/2024 10:41

@Bbq1 I don't think I'm fat but my legs and arms are well built so any additional weight does makes me look chubby in a way that it wouldn't on a taller person.

Mapleunicorn · 12/04/2024 10:42

I’m 5,4 and at my happiest at 9st. I’m a few pounds over that at the moment and I can notice it but it’s not overly bothering me. I was 10st for a long time and I was unhappy with my weight then and it affected my confidence. I don’t think i could ever get below 9st as I love my food too much, but I’m not sure I particularly want to anyway!

You'll find on these threads that a small number of posters will remain willfully and stubbornly ignorant to this.

They'll tap out the words 'Obviously I know everyone's built differently' or similar, but they don't mean it and simply refuse to accept it.

I'm not sure of the reason for it, but it's very possibly projection.

5.4 and a half lol and 8st 8. Size 8 tops as im not big up there, quite Athens but usually 10 trousers, sometimes get away with 8.

Possibly also more likely to know their weight if they're on the lighter side, as a lot of MNetters won't weigh themselves.

dontcryformeargentina · 12/04/2024 10:48

5'2 and 9.5 stone , size 12-14 , big boobs, a bit of tummy. I used to be 8 stone and size 8-10 before the perimenopause. I'm eating only twice a day now, exercise , very healthy but still find it difficult to shift the weight.

amannerofspeaking · 12/04/2024 10:53

5ft 3 I think I weigh about 11 and half stone, maybe bit more

I have slim arms, legs and arse just a large belly. I am a size 14-16. I do not really care to be honest, I was a size 10 all my life, I am now in my 50s and life is too short. If I diet I just end up feeling awful and miserable so now I just eat what I want and try to enjoy life. I know DH loves me as I am

Projection about what?

WoodBurningStov · 11/04/2024 22:40

I'm heavier than anyone else on this thread and I feel awful. I've put on several stone in the past 7 years due to various reasons.

I was happiest at 9st, I was a size 10 and carried the weight equally in my body. A bit heavier on my bum and thighs but still felt good

@WoodBurningStov I’m the same. It can be very disheartening to read people complaining they feel fat when they’re several stone lighter than yourself.

I currently weigh about 13.9stone and I’m aware I’m overweight but there are extenuating circumstances contributing to that. My main issue is lack of movement due to health issues, my diet is relatively healthy. It bothers me sometimes but I’ve never been hugely concerned about the way I look and am comfortable in my own skin. My husband doesn’t seem to mind either!
