Who's your favourite stand-up comedian?

Mine's Kevin Bridges.

We've just watched his new show "Long Overdue Catch-up". Amazing.

His stories about being a working-class guy in a middle-class world resonate so much - me and DP regularly talk about this.
His story about piles had me absolutely howling.

I just love him. I have a bit of a crush on him.
He seems like a genuinely decent chap. I'd be very surprised to read about him having an affair or just generally being a dick.

Probably Dara O’Briain, followed closely by Omid Djalili and Kevin Bridges

Mickey Flannagan
Josh Johnson
Phil Hanley
Matteo Lane
Michael McIntyre
Jeff Arcuri, I have tickets to see him in a couple of weeks but he's in the hospital atm and I'm panicking he won't be able to fly over.

I heard about Jeff today too 😔. He is fab, and I would love to see him live. I hope he is out of hospital and on the mend soon.

I used to love jimmy fallon back in the day, his snl days.. I still like him now but you know…

RobinGet · 11/04/2024 22:27

Rich Hall is the best live stand up I’ve seen, with Mark Steel a close second.

Rich Hall is the best live stand up I’ve seen, with Mark Steel a close second.

I LOVED Rich Hall. His second half of the act where he comes out as the alter ego and sings those brilliant country songs had me unable to breathe “Do anything you want to the girl just don’t hurt me”!

Dylan Moran is the best comedian I’ve ever seen live. Laughed so much I needed painkillers when I got home.

Bill Bailey was absolutely brilliant live too. Saw him at the Wulfren Hall in Wolves, it’s only a wee venue and it’s even better when you’re up close and not in a stadium.

Newcomers I’m loving are

Taylor Tomlinson (big in America but not here yet)
Matteo Lane
Vittorio Angelone (Northern Irish fella with Italian heritage, very funny chap)

zeibesaffron · 11/04/2024 23:22

Greg Davies
Tommy Tiernan
Gary Delaney
Jimmy Carr
Sarah Milligan
Billy Connelly (I know he isn’t current, but saw him a few times and he is fab!)

Sam Campbell is my current favourite. His show at Hackney Empire recently was funny, unusual and incredibly well- prepared, unlike the lack- lustre performance at the same venue by Jon Richardson a few weeks before.

Very glad to read this as we're seeing him in a few weeks!

ODFOx · 12/04/2024 01:38

Dylan Moran is my favourite of the ones we've seen live.

Oldsu · 12/04/2024 02:00

Mine died but it was Ken Dodd, Dave Allen and Bob Monkhouse, I saw Bob live and he was brilliant so different from his game show host persona, and Doddy what can I say I have never laughed so much in my life

Propermadam · 12/04/2024 03:14

Hannah Gadsby
Lee Mack
Micky Flanagan
Fern Brady

Babybelle23 · 12/04/2024 03:36

Dylan Moran (although don’t recommend sitting front row as it felt like he was staring into my soul 😂😂)
bill hicks
david O’Doherty
wanda Skye’s
Marc maron
hannah Gatsby
romesh
billy Connolly
Katherine ryan
used to like Frankie Boyle but he comes across quite misogynistic 🤮although I like his political takes
so many more I’ve probably forgotten

Dave Allen....

Agree he was brilliant. Sitting on his stool more than his sketches.

Kevin Bridges and Peter Kay make me laugh every time.

Bob Mortimer
Ricky Gervais
Miles Jupp
Lee Mack

And I discovered Jonny Vegas when he was interviewed by Jonathan Ross. I literally had tears running down my face.

mrsjg · 12/04/2024 06:30

Tommy Tiernan
Jason Byrne
Billy Connolly

These 3 are the stand outs in terms of the comedians I've seen. Have seen Jimmy Carr, Dara O'Brian, Sarah Millican, Peter Kay, Frank Skinner, Jason Manford and loads of others but those 3 above are gigs that I've remembered laughing until I ached the most.

We were lucky to have gone to the channel 4 comedy galas a few years in a row and saw pretty much every comedian mentioned here, albeit in short bursts.

Micky Flanagan is my favourite, I smile from ear to ear when we see him.

We were lucky to see Lee Evans on his final tour and he was truly brilliant. I totally get why he's retired though as he's such a nervous performer.

Saw Peter Kay last year and loved every second. He's a genius and brings so kuch joy. I adore Phoenix Nights, Car Share and the reality show spoof he did. The Amarillo video never fails to make me smile.

So pleased we saw Sean Lock who was effortlessly funny and gone too soon (RIP). If I need cheering up I watch Carrot in a box.

Julian Clary is brilliant but definitely marmite. I love clever innuendo.

I agree with many comments about Jimmy Carr - the one liners wear thin after a while.

Ricky Gervais, although obviously a brilliant comedy writer, is beginning to get samey in his stand ups. His shows are also very short so we just wait until they're on Netflix now. Love his social media posts about his cat 😻

Adore James Acaster as does dd18. We are desperately trying to get tickets.

Ditto Matt Rife - although we'd definitely sit at the back. He's brilliantly quick but ruthless with the audience!

AntheasAccessories · 12/04/2024 11:17

Alex Edelman - Just for Us is incredible and hopefully will be released over here as it’s just come out on HBO in the US

Tom Houghton has the best comic timing of anyone I’ve seen and we go watch stand up at least once a month

Ignacio Lopez - Espanyolo is on Spotify and made a car journey very enjoyable a couple years ago. Also made me cry with laughter on tour a year or so ago

Ria Lina - always super smart and funny

Ahir Shah we’ve seen twice - once a full show and one work in progress and both were great

I love Micky Flanagan (going to see him live in a couple of weeks and can't wait!) and I also love Sarah Millican.
