Mine's Kevin Bridges.

We've just watched his new show "Long Overdue Catch-up". Amazing.

His stories about being a working-class guy in a middle-class world resonate so much - me and DP regularly talk about this.
His story about piles had me absolutely howling.

I just love him. I have a bit of a crush on him.
He seems like a genuinely decent chap. I'd be very surprised to read about him having an affair or just generally being a dick.

I really liked Stewart Lee, but I saw him live this year, and his show wasn't great. Nothing like as good as the last two.

Jo Brand
Micky Flanagan (although a few of his jokes are dodgy)
Kevin Bridges
Jason Byrne
Peter Kay
Enfield/Mortimer/Whitehouse era
John Bishop
Julian Clary
Jack Dee
Shappi Khorsandi

I did like Sean Lock and Jeremy Hardy, both now sadly died.

All these people mentioned - is their live material crude? I'm not prudish and don't mind a bit of swearing but am wary of going to live shows (apart from Bill Bailey who I love) in case they rein it in on TV (Richard Osman's HOG has introduced me to quite a few I would like to see more of) but are foul-mouthed live.

Nicetobenice67 · 11/04/2024 18:46

Daniel O Reilly saw him a few weeks ago brilliant

Sorry to be clear I would know what to expect from, say, Julian Clary, but what about people like Frank Skinner?

littleburn · 11/04/2024 18:48

To add some Americans (and women!) into the mix, I love Iliza Schlesinger and Ali Wong's stand up shows on Netflix. Both laugh-out-loud funny.

I can't believe John Robins hasn't been mentioned yet. Funny and moving all at once. I'm a little in love with him. I love James Acaster too and would love Eli's James if he still did stand up. And Mike Bubbins.
