Who's your favourite stand-up comedian?

Mine's Kevin Bridges.

We've just watched his new show "Long Overdue Catch-up". Amazing.

His stories about being a working-class guy in a middle-class world resonate so much - me and DP regularly talk about this.
His story about piles had me absolutely howling.

I just love him. I have a bit of a crush on him.
He seems like a genuinely decent chap. I'd be very surprised to read about him having an affair or just generally being a dick.

The person I love most atm is Guz Khan, I've never seen him live but the clips on his instagram have me in stitches

We see lots of live comedy and I must say that Seann Walsh and Daniel Sloss are just fantastic live. Seen both of them twice. Would book again in a heartbeat 👌🏻

Ricky Gervais - I agree with pretty much everything he ever says (and I love his fangs)
Micky Flanagan
Jack Dee
Rhod Gilbert
Greg Davies

I’ve seen loads of live standup comedy, starting with Ken Dodd in 1980….! These are my favourites:

Tom Stade is my favourite stand-up ever, he’s bang on the money, well worth seeing him if you can.

Mickey Flanagan was fantastic when we saw him at the King’s Head in Crouch End in 2000/2001 before he got famous with his “out out” sketch.

Russell Kane and Russell Howard both v good.

Joe Wells is great, saw him recently https://www.joewells.org.uk/. If you are neurodivergent, or if you love someone who is, it’s well worth seeing him.

Jo Brand is still fantastic (and she writes wonderful sitcoms & films too). I saw her live in the early 90s and she was so different and so clever.

I’m looking forward to seeing Milo McCabe/Troy Hawke and Fern Brady later this year. Has anyone seen them live?

Tom Stade cracks me up, that man has no filter and it’s brilliant 😂

Saw Fern Brady live last year in Manchester and she is good value!

James Acaster

Sam Campbell - recently saw his tour and it was amazing. He's great.

These two both manage to be hilarious without being hugely unkind/unpleasant.

LOng-time, UK = Greg Davies.
Newly discovered US comedian - Matt Rife. Gutted I found out about him only after his shows all sold out in the uk.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 11/04/2024 21:11

Saw Joan Rivers and she was hilarious. We had tickets for her "Quick before they close the lid" tour but we weren't quick enough sadly

Bbq1 · 11/04/2024 21:13

Sarah Millican
Dara O’briain
Russell Howard

QueSyrahSyrah · 11/04/2024 22:01

I've seen Russell Kane live 3 times (including once before he made it big) and have tickets for his next tour.

I've found him hilarious every time, and the fact that each time I've seen him the first 20 minutes or so has been meticulously researched and bang up to date material about our local area (which I assume he does for every stop on the tour) is impressive. That said, I don't like how he comes across in interviews and on his own social media.

Also really enjoyed Jason Manford, Micky Flanagan, John Bishop and Tom Allen when he did the warm up for a Sarah Millican Tour. He was much better than Sarah in fact.

Did not enjoy Jimmy Carr, and years ago witnessed Ed Byrne absolutely die on his arse when his attempt at playing on the local area went down like a lead balloon.

DeathStarCanteenGal · 11/04/2024 22:05

Jo Brand, always
Matt Forde
and Eddie Izzard (hence the name)

BiggerBoat1 · 11/04/2024 22:05

Greg Davies - hands down - best stand up I’ve ever seen by a mile.

sailorJulia · 11/04/2024 22:05

Daniel Sloss
Suzi Ruffell
Lee Mack
John Bishop

QueSyrahSyrah · 11/04/2024 22:05

Oh I forgot one of my favourites! Never seen her live unfortunately but a Netflix lockdown discovery, Iliza Shlesinger makes me cry with laughter.

Raspberrymoon49 · 11/04/2024 22:11

Have seen Jack Dee live a long time ago, he was great
Also Jo Brand live was great
More recently Micky Flanagan, brilliant
For me the master of comedy has to be Billy Connolly, genuinely couldn’t breathe for laughing at his show, there was no pause in the comedy long enough, he was spectacular
Love Dylan Moran
Used to love Frank Skinner but he’s a dick and a misogynist
Tom Stade is great, as is Romesh
