Who's your favourite stand-up comedian?

Mine's Kevin Bridges.

We've just watched his new show "Long Overdue Catch-up". Amazing.

His stories about being a working-class guy in a middle-class world resonate so much - me and DP regularly talk about this.
His story about piles had me absolutely howling.

I just love him. I have a bit of a crush on him.
He seems like a genuinely decent chap. I'd be very surprised to read about him having an affair or just generally being a dick.

Have seen all of the above live . Love them all . But the best stand up I ever saw was Billy Connolly . A genuine daftie . Love him ❤️

I’ve seen Russell Kane several times and always laugh til I cry. Think he’s quite Marmite though!

Ricky Gervais

Very pissed off about the ridiculous prices to see mickey Flanagan on plymouth though. Cheapest tickets I could find are £200 each. I'd expect front row and meeting him for that. I'll wait for it to be on telly.

I'm a little bit in love with James Acaster.

Also a big fan of Rhod Gilbert, Chris Ramsey and Dara O'Briain. Discovered a lot of great comedians on Mock The Week.

Starsandflowers · 11/04/2024 17:00

Stewart Lee is wonderful. The only stand up I've consistently laughed at. Content Provider is his best imo.
And his 'saying the unsayable' skit absolute sent me.

Jason Manford.. he's much better live than what you see on TV.
I love Lee Mack too.

I've got a real soft spot for Lee Mack on Would I Lie To You? Is his stand up routine good too?

Sam Campbell is my current favourite. His show at Hackney Empire recently was funny, unusual and incredibly well- prepared, unlike the lack- lustre performance at the same venue by Jon Richardson a few weeks before.

Ooh, I’m envious! Loved Sam on Taskmaster! I’m a bit in love with him too 😍

Stewart Lee
Ed Byrne was good too

Very disappointed with Ross Noble and Jimmy Carr (walked out he was so awful).

I saw a Jimmy Carr show last year and agree, he was terrible! I was there with a group of friends otherwise I'd have left too. He just stood telling one-line jokes like a teenage boy at a holiday camp talent show. And just not funny...basically Roy Chubby Brown with better clothes.

70sdisco24 · 11/04/2024 17:10

Lee Evans (saw him trying out new material in the Glee Club).
Used to love Frank Skinner in the early days before he got on tv. Not keen on him now.
I still like Jo Brand.
I’ve seen lots of comedians especially in the Comedy Store days in London eg Jo Brand, Eddie Izzard.

70sdisco24 · 11/04/2024 17:13

I like a lot of comedians on shows like Would I Lie to You and Have I Got News for You but I wouldn’t watch their standup.

I was really upset by one of his shows. It seemed to be a third made up of one-liners about incest. This was about 18 years ago and it was awful then and it's awful now.
I went because we knew a guy who was best friends with him, said he was great, and this guy was really lovely. So I'm willing to believe he's a better person offstage but I can't square that with his onstage persona.

Awrite · 11/04/2024 17:15

Billy Connolly and Kevin Bridges.

Used to like Frankie Boyle.
