Who's your favourite stand-up comedian?

Mine's Kevin Bridges.

We've just watched his new show "Long Overdue Catch-up". Amazing.

His stories about being a working-class guy in a middle-class world resonate so much - me and DP regularly talk about this.
His story about piles had me absolutely howling.

I just love him. I have a bit of a crush on him.
He seems like a genuinely decent chap. I'd be very surprised to read about him having an affair or just generally being a dick.

I love the usual suspects (esp Bill Bailey and Stewart Lee), but my Instagram algorithm shows me lots of comedy and I love the following less known ones:

Tatty MacLeod
Robin Morgan (saw him supporting Ellie Taylor, who is also hilarious but obvs going the presenter route now)
Ria Lina
Taylor Tomlinson (super famous in the US but much less here)

Yes!

He went to my old school, my friend's sister taught him & says he was always exactly like he is now. Friend & sister met him randomly on a night out & he was delighted to see them, spent most of the night reminiscing & being an all round; normal, great bloke.

The Big Yin, Billy Connolly, will always have my heart. I grew up listening to his stand up on vinyl (it was a thing!).

Also find Mickey Flannigan good, and Peter Kay.

I went to uni with Ed Byrne - we were in the drama society, albeit he was a few years above me. Nice guy.

Jim Jeffrey's - I still quote parts of his gun control routine.
Wanda sykes
Gabriel inglesias
Ashley Gavin
Andrew santino
Shane Gillis
Matteo lane

Dave Allen....

I've got a real soft spot for Lee Mack on Would I Lie To You? Is his stand up routine good too?

I saw him live at our local (and very small) theatre a few years ago - he was very funny - a really natural entertainer.

Others that I've seen live and loved - Romesh, Milton Jones, James Acaster. I've seen quite a few others, but these were my favourite.

Would love to see Kevin Bridges live, I'm hoping for a tour to be announced!

Riverlee · 11/04/2024 17:29

Tim Vine
Michael Mcintyre
Lee Evans - a master of the craft

Ben Elton - saw many moons ago, very good live

zurg123 · 11/04/2024 17:36

Kevin bridges or Ricky gervais

Paul Foot
Stewart Lee
Daniel Kitson

Paul Foot here too!

Seeing him yet again in a few weeks.

Great to see him get a mention.

Janetsmug · 11/04/2024 17:40

Paul Smith, don't think he's massively well known but I love him.

Stewart Lee - unbelievably funny

Agree with this. Seen many of those listed and Stuart was by far the funniest live, absolutely astonishing work against hecklers.

Frank skinner also wonderful, just so well paced, mature, practiced no punching down.

Where can I see this?

I love Kevin Bridges too

SirChenjins · 11/04/2024 17:47

ByUmberViewer · 11/04/2024 17:51

Yes to Leanne Morgan
And Jackie fabulous

DeadButDelicious · 11/04/2024 17:55

In no particular order,

Noel Fielding
Daniel Sloss
Greg Davies
Dylan Moran
Billy Connolly
Hannah Gadsby
Lee Evans
Peter Kay
Jerry Sadowitz
Ross Noble
Tommy Tiernan
Sarah Millican
Mark Thomas
Russel Howard
Jack White

The worst comedian I've ever seen was Andrew Laurence, it was so bad we left half way through. Just not funny. And that was before he went all right wing, he's absolutely dire now.

Marmite27 · 11/04/2024 17:56

Iliza Shlesinger #partygoblin is my absolute favourite.

Notable mentions for Jim Jefferies - his gay ‘The Batchelor’ scenario nearly finished me off (didn’t have an asthma inhaler close enough), and Fluffy/Gabriel Iglesias is a complete legend.

DrJoanAllenby · 11/04/2024 17:57

Bernard Manning.
Tommy Cooper.
Dave Allen.
Les Dawson.
Freddie Starr.
Frankie Howerd.
Bob Monkjouse.

Todays lot are rubbish.

Haha I was going to do that 😂

Love Kevin Bridges but Billy Connolly has to be my all time favourite ❤️

Helen Bauer
Catherine Bohart
Bridget Christie
Rachel Fairburn
Sarah Millican
Joe Lycett

I think we have similar taste. If you could add Stewart Lee to that list it would be 👌

Smokeysgirl · 11/04/2024 17:59

I don't know if he's stand up, but Lee Mack. I just think he is so quick witted, the way he jokes with people on the 1% Club is hilarious. Plus, he's easy on the eye too!

Out of the comedians I’ve seen live, Harry Hill was the best. League of Gentlemen were fab and Jimmy Carr is also a guilty pleasure but I know he’s controversial.

Im seeing Peter Kay and Greg Davies next year so can’t wait to watch them.

Edited

Me too! Especially excited to see Greg.
not with you on Jimmy Carr though, biggest disappointment live.

Also love sarah Millican, Paul Smith, John Bishop and Micky Flanagan

underthelights · 11/04/2024 18:08

Chris Rock
Ali Wong
Ricky Gervais
Micky Flanagan

Ladybird69 · 11/04/2024 18:11

Best I’ve seen live are
alan Carr (my cheeks ached for days after watching him)
Sarah millican
micky Flanagan
Greg davis
saw Sam Campbell on Taskmaster and yes he was great.

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 11/04/2024 18:33

Tommy Tiernan is amazing and the stories he tells of growing up in Ireland are bloodywell hilarious. He really gets into it and you as a viewer do too and he is just mental and just love him.

balloonted · 11/04/2024 18:34

Kevin Bridges
Rhod Gilbert
All time fave has got to be Jack Dee!
