"the guy moved the dog to side at least" 😁😂

So you mean he was polite when you approached each other and.moved his dog to the side to give you all space?

Jokl · 08/04/2024 07:48

I’m sorry but you’re being a bit silly op. He was quietly waiting for his friends, possibly his family, with his dog who was causing no issues and by the sounds of it, neither man nor dog paid you any mind at all, other than to move out of your way so you could pass dramatically shielding your child

Coshei · 08/04/2024 07:49

Sounds like a responsible dog owner who noticed your unease and moved the dog as a consequence. You will encounter dogs at parks, but this one seems to be well behaved and a regular because nobody else seemed concerned in the slightest.
Btw your children will likely pick up on your behaviour and fears and you could be “training” them to be scared of dogs.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 08/04/2024 07:51

Oh I found a second photo and removed the guy

No, I guess if you saw the whole thing maybe it would be more understandable. The guy looked very intimidating!

Yes XL bulls are banned as are some other types that come under the legislation as mentioned above by a PP.

I don't think it's ridiculous to be concerned about children's safety. Or adults for that matter. That's was being a society is!

No bigger than an L, I would say.

Yes that’s clearer and in no way an xl bully, it looks more cane corso to me, or similar. Have you never seen an xl in real life? I think if you had you’d not be so confused?

Yahyahs22 · 08/04/2024 07:53

That is absolutely not an XL. Even so, it behaved perfectly well and the man was polite? Would you prefer they stay at home for your comfort? Even though the dog clearly isn't a threat?

ghostbusters · 08/04/2024 07:54

Hedgerow2 · 08/04/2024 07:40

But yeh to the PP saying if I'm worried why not just report...well I wanted to see if people thought it was a banned breed - it's hard to tell. And I'm also thinking they can't do anything since I don't know where the guy lives.

XLs aren't banned are they?

Yes, in the UK they are unless the owner has an exemption certificate.

XL bully dog close up

What is an American XL bully and why are they being banned?

Rules restricting ownership of American XL bully dogs are in force in England, Wales and Scotland.

Edited

I didn't pass dramatically. I placed myself in-between my son and the guy with the dog

I myself felt scared walking past the dog and I really like dogs.

Anyway as a pp has said I'll just report it. :)

Thanks

  1. It doesn't look anything like an XL bully.
  1. The dog didn't behave in any way to frighten anyone.
  1. Get a grip.
BunniesRUs · 08/04/2024 07:55

I'd be worried about that dog too OP! I'm sure lots of people would. I wouldn't report though.

Coshei · 08/04/2024 07:55

Christ almighty, the second photo. It’s a dog playing with a stick. Call the police quickly.

It looks even less like an XL in your second photo!

Report what? A perfectly legal dog out for a walk and playing with a stick?

Jokl · 08/04/2024 07:57

It’s not remotely ridiculous to take a child’s safety seriously, no. In this case though, with a civil and polite man (no matter how intimidating he looked!) and a well behaved dog that was under control at all times, it sounds rather like your children were more at risk at falling off a piece of playground equipment and hurting themselves than they were of being savaged by this dog. Reporting it is, frankly, ridiculous.

Came to say exactly this, seems a completely innocent situation to me.

Jf20 · 08/04/2024 08:01

Exactly it’s totally fine. Op do you suffer from anxiety? Or are you scared of all large dogs?

if you report and give those images they are going to say that’s not an xl, and its a perfectly well behaved dog out for a walk and playing with a stick.

Hedgerow2 · 08/04/2024 08:01

@ghostbusters - Owners need to have an exemption certificate, yes. But that doesn't mean they're banned!

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 08/04/2024 08:02

The trouble is , thee are plenty of large dog breeds with this look about them that aren't XL bullys, and don't fall under the legislation. They don't need to be muzzled, or on lead.

And plenty of people who know nothing about dog breeds

fieldsofbutterflies · 08/04/2024 08:04

What are you going to report, exactly, and to who?

You don't know who this man is or where he lives. The dog wasn't doing anything dangerous or behaving badly.

Are you just going to ring and say and you saw a big dog and didn't like it? Confused

Mumofyellows · 08/04/2024 08:05

What are you reporting it for? Standing in a park calmly with its owner waiting for other people and then walking off? That's a bit ridiculous. Are you just generally not a dog fan? If so just give it wide berth, no need for the judging and drama.

I think the OP is getting a hard time for nothing here. Lots of people don’t like large dogs and specific breeds. Why would you stand at a child’s play park given the recent media reports on XL bully’s? Whether it’s a cane corso, XL bully or whatever it is owners really should have more sense. It’s like dogs in school playgrounds, there’s no place for them there.
