🔥 Weird Things Your Neighbours Do Thread

I'll start... My neighbour thinks it's totally acceptable to sit in their car with the engine running and lights on.... for 3-4 hours, 6 nights of the week! Not in front of their own house. My mind truly boggles, they are still there now and it's 1:20. Arrived just after 21:00. 🙈 It must be costing a fortune.

Any thoughts as to why he does this?

Could not wany to go home to his partner 😬

Mine hoard bottles of bottled water like 10 massive bottles by the front door, and by their cars and we see them take in like 5 gallons every few days, it's so random why do they need so much bottled water???

MoonlightMemories · 08/04/2024 01:51

Sometimes the people who live below me will randomly seem to try and make more noise then me, even though it's during regular day time hours and not excessive (think me doing normal day to day stuff such as hoovering, cooking prep, watching TV, laundry etc).

One time I did unfortunately have to put a late laundry wash on (ended up finishing about 10/10:30pm, which I never would usually do) after I defrosted my freezer (it was very bad and took ALL day) and I didn't want loads of soaking wet towels going mouldy overnight - they started bashing on their walls, using what sounded like a hammer on them, slamming doors etc until the wash finished. They could have just come up and spoken to me about it?

LadyWiddiothethird · 08/04/2024 02:00

@TheWorldisGoingMad It is illegal to sit in a car with the engine running.

My neighbours upstairs are great and lucky a new build with good concrete floors so do not hear them but when the adult son comes home he has to bang the door 3 times every time so he must have ocd. I would tell that man to move his car from outside your house as that is far too late to be having that noise or ring the police and say a weird man outside in his car for a few hours can they pls check it.
Moonlightmemories, they sound nuts for god's sake.

BabyImReadyToGo · 08/04/2024 06:38

Me and my friend have nicknamed my neighbour, respectively, Mr Steptoe and Naked Gardening Man. So you can imagine..... 😶

PuttingDownRoots · 08/04/2024 06:42

We have a gnome competition going on.
The local kids love it.
We don't speak about it...just try to outdo each other.

😂😂😂
Not sure which is worse.

TimoteiChaletpants · 08/04/2024 06:56

man next door is a foghorn. They’ll be in the garden and you’ll hear nondescript conversation from wife and kids, but not foghorn leghorn who bellows every sentence crystal clear
i don’t want to hear that you are going for a wee, or telling your son he’s too noisy (the irony)

rainontherooftop · 08/04/2024 07:46

When my neighbours opposite go away for a few days (they do this often, they're retired) he carries the suitcase to the car and sits in the driver's seat.

Then for about ten minutes she runs in and out like she's on a weird game show, grabbing random stuff from the house and chucking it in the car. Their stairs are in the hall so I can see her running up and down them as well as through to the kitchen.

Last time they went, I saw her go in and out for a baseballcap, some coats, a pair of trainers, some bananas, an umbrella, and a box of something unidentified. I don't know why she doesn't put her random stuff all in one bag by the door.

If I see them going out now, I stand and watch just for entertainment 😂

AngieRosess · 08/04/2024 08:37

My neighbour puts their bins out always after 1 in the morning, I have my windows open every night apart from Sunday as get woken up otherwise - weird and irritating !

TheWorldisGoingMad · 09/04/2024 14:47

I know. Four hours most nights is a bit excessive. I went to bed late last night again, having listened to his engine for another four hours. Around 12am a man walked past him with a dog and knocked on the car window... I thought , this is going to be interesting. So I popped up and tried hard to listen. It wasn't difficult as the man wasn't whispering. He said that he can not leave his engine running, especially where he was when in such close vicinity to so many houses. They exchanged words and the man and his dog moved on.

The man and his dog walked past a considerable time later and he knocked on the window. Now he seemed annoyed. He was a little quieter this time and complained that his engine was still running. They shared words for around 5 minutes and then the man and his dog walked off with departing words that were quite jovial and forgiving. I can not fathom what the man in the car must have said to get him on his side.

Now I'm dying to know. What could it possibly be; I really don't know. I do wish he's park closer to his own house though. I also wonder if he pretends to go to work or is working late when he really may not want to go home, for whatever reason. I fear it will remain a mystery forever.

I have to admit I did an anonymous report, as I'm very much non-confrontational. Nothing has come of it though. All the other neighbours near me hear his engine too. What confuses me more is leaving his head lights on the whole time. They start off super bright, and by the time he goes in they are dim to non-existent. This is every night. There have been perhaps 2 nights over the last month where he hasn't been there when I've gone to bed.

We have one of those, you can hear him scream a mile away and hear him talk from half a mile.

After my marriage broke down, a few neighbours told me exH would often sit at the end of our road from 7pm to 9pm. No Internet in those days, he just napped. He admitted later that he couldn't cope with bedtime for our 3 very young children!

His electricity has been cut off and he is running his laptop/TV from the car ?

It's a stupid thing to do because he could go to Starbucks and sit around there for ages and the coffee would probably cost less than running the engine.

Check and see whether his lights go on when he goes back in his house. If the leccy has been cut off then they won't.

It could be worse. I do wonder what our neighbours think of us.

My direct neighbour, who doesn't like me (I have melanin), even though I saved her life. Every day at certain times, she will tap on the wall for a while with something that sounds like metal. Tap, tap, tap... tap, tap, tap... tap, tap, tap... 🙉

The other possibility is that he is bumming off someone elses wi fi and is running the engine to keep the air con on.

It could be something like that. I understand from neighbours, he has 2 children and a young baby.

I doubt it with the car he has and the fuel he must use to run that engine 4 hours every night. The house is occupied every time I walk past.

My neighbours aren't really weird - but my goodness he has the loudest nose blow I have ever heard! I can hear it at night when I'm in bed with the Windows shut. I sleep at the back of the house - I think they sleep at the front. It's like a trumpet blast!

I'm presuming he runs the engine for heating/radio ect. ?
The man might have just explained he was studying something and almost finished

GingerLiberalFeminist · 09/04/2024 15:56

Oh maybe the baby only sleeps in the car with the engine running but not moving? I've heard of mums doing that!
