🔥 Weird Things Your Neighbours Do Thread

I'll start... My neighbour thinks it's totally acceptable to sit in their car with the engine running and lights on.... for 3-4 hours, 6 nights of the week! Not in front of their own house. My mind truly boggles, they are still there now and it's 1:20. Arrived just after 21:00. 🙈 It must be costing a fortune.

Any thoughts as to why he does this?

OP am laughing so much at 'she doesn't like me, I have melanin'. Am going to steal this. Such a funny way to say it, but yes I can tell when my melanin has upset certain people Grin

PuppyMonkey · 09/04/2024 18:24

This is making me anxious. I would have to go out and knock on the window and tell him he’s causing a disturbance and he can’t leave his engine running for no reason for so long. Confused

CJ0374 · 09/04/2024 18:25

Both our immediate neighbours are in their 80's and lovely. 1 side, we hear their wine bottles go in the recycling bin nightly. The other side tap out their food bin late every night and wheel their bin out at 11:30pm on bin night- banging it across their cobbled drive. We were renovating and living in a caravan with wafer thin walls, and I was woken everytime by their bin rituals. Not as bad now that we are living in the house. It could be much worse though!

mydogisthebest · 09/04/2024 18:39

There are 16 houses on my street and 11 of them never open their curtains upstairs and down. I find that pretty weird. Our road is not that busy and we all have long front gardens so I can't see it's about privacy. It also can't be because of the sun shining in because they are closed all the time summer and winter

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 09/04/2024 19:03

DilemmaDelilah we have one of those nose trumpet blowers also, it is to the side of our house from his upstairs bathroom window when it is open can hear it so loud. It seems like a nightly ritual. Is funny but would not like to be living with him and his nose.
Not normal that man in his car and would be curious why the heck he is there. Why not outside his own house. I would go out and ask him can he park away from your house as keeping you awake and maybe he will explain what he is doing. Keep us informed.

can you go and ask!? I’d love to know too.

We have a lay-by opposite us and I pretty much know who parks there, with of course, some exceptions. The other week a car was parked there all day. 2 occupants that would occasionally get out and smoke but separately. They didn’t leave for about 8 hours. I was convinced they were police or something.

Turns out they were waiting for the AA- 8 hours!

Chewyspree · 09/04/2024 19:21

One of my neighbours never leaves the house EXCEPT to take his recycling out in a baby buggy. Never seen anything like it. Sometimes it is a few trips.

My other neighbour never opens his windows (or curtains) & has black mould on the inside of the glass. There is a tiny crack in the curtains & I can see the Christmas tree is still up (lived here 8 years - tree has been up for 7 of those).

Another neighbour has a v 'grown up' job but lives in packaging squalor. Her house is FULL of packaging. Carrier bags, empty water bottles, large cardboard boxes - you name it. The houses are all nice, spacious, detached homes. So strange.

Finally, we have a neighbour that has a dog he can't control. Think Jim & Wilson from Friday Night Dinner. It's exactly like that.

IwishIdidntlikesugar · 10/04/2024 00:40

I used to have a neighbour who made regular strange abrupt growling noises. I found it quite scary/worrying at first (i had no idea who it was) then a few months later i heard it again from someone walking a few metres ahead of me, just about jumped out of my skin before realising that must be my neighbour. Never heard anything like it before. She stopped after a couple of years.

AyeupDuck · 10/04/2024 07:03

It’s illegal to sit with an engine idling and after a warning you can be given a fixed penalty notice.

My neighbour hangs things she crafts in her tree in her front garden.
I hear another neighbour every night go out and chuck glass in their recycling bin at around midnight. I assume they are on the wine every night. I love my road as it is peaceful.

ichundich · 10/04/2024 07:08

My neighbour has burnt a mattress and a trampoline in his harden because he didn't want to arrange for the council to collect them. He also cut down a load of trees and hedges in the middle of spring (nesting season). Regularly tells me that climate change isn't real because "we've always had the odd hot summer".

Samsam23 · 10/04/2024 07:15

Neighbour opposite seems to get home from work about 6am and sits in his car on his drive with music blaring for about 10 minutes. So loud I'm sure his wife and kid must wake up to it. Drives me mad.

Fannyfiggs · 10/04/2024 07:35

PuttingDownRoots · 08/04/2024 06:42

We have a gnome competition going on.
The local kids love it.
We don't speak about it...just try to outdo each other.

The first rule about Gnome club... 🤣

Fannyfiggs · 10/04/2024 07:38

TheWorldisGoingMad · 09/04/2024 15:12

It could be worse. I do wonder what our neighbours think of us.

My direct neighbour, who doesn't like me (I have melanin), even though I saved her life. Every day at certain times, she will tap on the wall for a while with something that sounds like metal. Tap, tap, tap... tap, tap, tap... tap, tap, tap... 🙉

You saved her life? Me thinks you should have left the racist old bastard to her own devices 😲

SweetSummerChild22 · 10/04/2024 08:35

Glad I've found this thread. First time poster, but here goes...
My neighbour an elderly man, living on his own has so many quirks, I don't know where to start. He has cameras dotted around pointing at various neighbours including myself and he keeps his curtains mostly closed. He barely leaves his house. He doesn't talk to me or the neighbour the other side of him and he leaves his bin out on purpose in order to block another neighbours car. In the winter, he goes out and defrosts his car, sits in it and revs the engine, then goes back inside and doesn't use it. He stands outside his kitchen door when he's on the phone and shouts his conversation loudly into it so we can all hear. You cannot convince me those are the actions of a normal person.

JosiePosey · 10/04/2024 09:50

I'd have to go out and ask him what he's doing.

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 10/04/2024 17:01

My neighbours are utterly lovely. The most bonkers thing is she sweeps the road. Not just in front of her house, but has been known to go up to the corner about 30 yards away and then start the other way. Then down the alley to the main road.

polkadot24 · 10/04/2024 17:16

They move their car as soon as we go out, even though we all have driveways. They like to park across theirs so no one can park near our house if visiting 🤣 They park over the road, then as soon as we go I see them move it on the doorbell 🤷‍♀️

Love the idea of a lone road-sweeping woman keeping your streets clean!

Churchview · 10/04/2024 18:27

Our neighbour opposite mows her huge front lawn with a flymo type mower. She only turns the mower on when she pushes it away from her then pulls it back switched off. Mower. No mower. Mower. No mower etc for 90 minutes or so at a time.

She also has a weekly meeting of ladies who each arrive with a spinning wheel under their arm.

CJ0374 · 10/04/2024 19:21

I forgot. My 80yr old neighour with the nightly wine bottles, cuts the edges of her lawn with scissors and picks up acorns daily from her drive in Autumn. We offered to use our leaf blower, which also sucks things up, but she prefers to know she has collected them ALL up! She has also put TPO's on multiple trees in the street- even though they aren't in her own garden!

Well that’s an easily resolved isn’t it!

cortex10 · 10/04/2024 19:41

One of our neighbours power washes the roof of his house each year (no obvious safety gear).

Justkeeprollingalong · 10/04/2024 20:03

@TheWorldisGoingMad
You have melanin? Don't we all? (Except those afflicted with Albinism.)

GoogleWhacking · 10/04/2024 20:06

My neighbours go in and out in their car all day long. At least 10 times a day. I cannot go outside without them going out to their car. They are often back really quickly too.

They also go up and downstairs really bloody loudly very early every morning. It's like a herd of elephants and so weird as there are only 2 of them and they weigh about 15st between them.
. Finally, anything you've done they've done better. It's so annoying. We avoid them as much as possible.

shellyleppard · 10/04/2024 20:07

My neighbour does the gardening in his slippers, walks to the shop.....in his slippers. Then moans at me when he steps in cat poo!!! (I have cats so obviously its mine that have left the present) . Btw its not cos they are indoor cats 🤣🤣
