So I’ve just discovered Tattle…

My friend told me about it recently so I thought I’d have a look. So I do have some views on ‘influencers’ showing off their DC before they’re old enough to consent, but blimey, this goes above any beyond that. There is a woman on Istagram called ‘Knee Deep in Life’ I’ve followed her for years and I can see that’s she’s not everyone’s cup of tea but she’s pretty inoffensive but the way she’s been talked about of Tattle is horrible, I don’t know how anyone could describe as anything else other than bullying.

i stopped reading after this and I’m very willing to stand corrected if this was a one off and every thing else is well put together and thought through but suspect that’s not the case. I know MN is in no way perfect but just found it really nasty.

The thing that pisses me off most about Tattle are the ridiculously unfunny thread titles.

Totally cringe, agreed!

I'm fully behind the basic principle of Tattle, but anything I've read on there is over the top, bordering on hysterical. Saw some unforgivable comments about someone being a cunt (lots of comments on a thread, may have been Meghan Markle? can't remember) and decided it was not the site for me.

Jf20 · 07/04/2024 05:15

I don’t get the view that tattle holds people to account. Of course it doesn’t, it’s hardly some public service .

I looked at the Mrs hinch threads awhile ago and found it really distasteful , very abusive and some deep level of obsession from some. She certainly wasn’t being held to account, whatever that means, it was just to attack her and bring her down.

i think trying to dress it up as something like holding them to account is toe curling, it’s just a bunch of posters attacking and dissecting people in a very cruel and often abusive manner. At least own it.

Tattle has been extremely influential in the end of Jack monroe's career as a fake poor person and grifter, which can only be a good thing

ginandbearit · 07/04/2024 05:22

Tattle does hold some people to account though, and while it can be brutal at times does shine a light on grifters and con artists . The Liz Fraser threads deleted from here found a home there and continue to hold her to account, and expose others poor behaviour .
Tattle also has off topic sections with serious discussions on gender, law and hilariously what gives readers the'ick' , it's not all poisonous bitching.

Covetthee · 07/04/2024 05:54

I enjoy reading the threads.

some posters can be over the top but thats the same with every forum, its not exclusive to tattle.

when it comes to influencers- its good that they are getting called out for the content they put out there. especially the younger ones who are doing constant weekly hauls/my designer haul etc.

influencers are very thin skinned and can never take any constructive criticism and always delete and block people

one of my fave ones was when hannah gale was exposed for her use of casual racist term (i used to follow her and personally called out The racism before it all came to light on tattle and she blocked me and still didnt remove said racist remark) it was on her blog for years and then everyone mentioned on tattle and it gained attention and she did a petty apology and blamed her mental
health (and tried to blame tattle) and disappeared for a year and has had the nerve to come back as if nothing happened 🙄

so yes im glad there is a site that calls out people who try to hide such things and the constant not declaring of ads!

i also very much enjoy their gender threads dicussion and the funnier dating app icks.

I found Tattle googling a dreadful AUS influencer
The person in question was a awful as I thought. Made me feel better, that I was not alone.

GreyTonkinese · 07/04/2024 06:35

I looked at it briefly. It was like the ravings of a 12 year old with a strange fixation on "bums" and excrement. The spite was notable and they seemed fixated. I just don't care what people post normally and just watch other stuff so I won't be back to that site. It is rather worrying though that these people "live among us".

MississippiAF · 07/04/2024 06:38

Anything that harms morons trying to grift as influencers, (sorry - ‘content creators’ 🤮🤮🤮) is fine with me.

Influencing is not a job.

LiterallyOnFire · 07/04/2024 06:38

Is this our regular viral marketing campaign for that place?

We really don't need shocked despatches every time someone finds out there are other sites on the interweb.

Myridiculousstomach · 07/04/2024 06:48

I really like the off topic forums and the true crime stuff on Tattle. I’ve read a bit of the influencer stuff out of curiosity but I barely follow any influencers as I’m not interested in fake lives so most of it means nothing to me. The bits I’ve read appear to be a true mixture of spite which is obviously not ok, and absolutely fair calling out of bullshit. So there are obviously some particularly unpleasant people on there but also some people who are just rightly sick of the influencer culture. But then there are some very spiteful, unpleasant people on Mumsnet too - it’s a very intolerant place where various posters like nothing better than sticking the knife on to other posters. It’s just that Tattle is honest about what it’s there for.

Brawcolli · 07/04/2024 06:51

I like the chat threads and the influencer thresds where people are actually calling the person out due to their awful behaviour rather than just picking apart their appearance like high school bullies.

Some of the bigger influencer ones are ridiculous though. Loads of people seem to get actual pleasure out of calling influencers’ children ugly (especially Stacey Solomon’s), which I think is pretty inexcusable and actually quite embarrassing for them.

dancingwithpenguins · 07/04/2024 06:59

I remember when I first discovered Tattle and my reaction was the same as yours OP. I was shocked at the level of nastiness and cruelty. I still go back to it sometimes if I want to read about a particular celeb but inevitably give up after a few threads as it just seems too mean.

I also thought there were a few posters who seemed over invested to the point of some quite disturbing behaviour. Tracking down people’s addresses etc, it’s just plain stalking.

HesterPrincess · 07/04/2024 07:06

It's worth joining for the Harry and Meghan threads alone - there are some users on there who are very good researchers.

I enjoy MN and Tattle in different ways.

Scotcheggz · 07/04/2024 07:13

I do like how I can have tattle as a dark page though. The bright white of mumsnet isn't ideal at night.

I have MN on dark mode. I couldn’t tell you how I did it (helpful!) but it’s possible.

Zodfa · 07/04/2024 07:19

These kind of sites are good for getting info on celebrities that isn't published elsewhere but it definitely seems to come at a cost of allowing really nasty levels of unpleasantness from the posters.

You get to see the dark side of famous people but the userbase comes off really badly too. Their confidence that they are just superbrave truth-telling heroes only makes it all the worse.

I’d argue it is because people, mainly women, can make a lot of money from it.

I enjoy the secret celeb posts and some of the TikTok ones

Some posts are tough and people take it too far but look at aibu that can be a vile place where there have been cliques piling on posters before

ifyouthinkyouregettingawayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy · 07/04/2024 07:27

Also what’s up with Stacey Solomon? I think she seems lovely (obvs not read the SS threads on Tattle).

Agree re. Ptwm (part time working mummy/ rachaele Hambleton). Claims to support women whilst simultaneously publicly dragging down her stepsons' mother and using her children and step childrens' private lives for content. Let alone the issues around missing money and suspicions around where all of the vouchers she fundraises for actually go. Definitely worth reading her 'wiki'.

Covetthee · 07/04/2024 07:42

This is what tattle is for..

i don’t particularly follow her or know much about her threads but everyone seems ‘nice’ and ‘lovely’ and then younread the threads and your eyes are opened up to what they are actually like.

take away the petty posts about looks etc when it comes to the threads and if you actually delve into them and read the ones with more common sense you will see how blinded most people are the influencer lifestyle

one major eye opener thread for me was Caroline Hirons…

Tattle is a strange one. I like to read the discussions at times. I think some valid points are made but then people will start talking about the influencer/celebrity's appearance and it's just completely unnecessary and cruel. Then it just feels wrong for me to be reading it!

This! When they talk about appearance and the way they look it’s wrong!

The Molly-Mae thread is awful for this I stopped reading it because it was the same old awful comments. Same with the Zoe Hague (her sister) thread. People were saying she wasn’t attractive and she was majorly punching. Then criticising her body shape because she exercises and does a lot of fitness stuff but apparently her body shape wasn’t good enough as she didn’t have the classic big bum teeny waist physique from it! Completely ignorant in my eyes as she does completely different exercise to other fitness influencers.

The only time I like Tattle is when influencers say stupid stuff and it makes you wonder if others think the same. And it’s nice to see other perspective because on their posts it’s just people commenting about how amazing they are…

For example Elle Darby (the cancelled racist who unfortunately has come back…) goes on about manifesting and how everything that happens to her is because she manifested it… and that her followers just need to manifest and it’ll happen… she completely ignores the fact she’s in a privileged position and actually she very lucky… she’s just moved to America… and apparently everyone can do this is they manifest it… when actually she spend loads of dollar on immigration lawyers to be able to go. Money is a barrier you can’t just manifest!!!

Perfectlystill · 07/04/2024 07:45

I love Tattle. It's less po-faced than here

Bulkypeepants · 07/04/2024 07:49

There's an instagrammer that I know IRL who also has a tattle thread. She is such a fake who makes up some pretty serious things for content. Generally vile. The things said about her on tattle are nasty but actually very true and the posters don't even know the half of it!
