I saw a Stick Man in my room

Schtickman · 06/04/2024 14:10

I woke up around 2 am recently, and 'saw' the weirdest thing.

It was a stickman (like what you see on public toilets) 'running' through my bedroom. 'He' had no features as his face was a big black circle, but the vibe I got from him was that he saw me seeing him and had a very jolly, jovial and 'oops, ya caught me! What am I like?' kind of expression/energy. He found it all very funny.

It lasted about 2 seconds and afterwards, I lay there very bemused. I assumed it was some kind of dreamlike state, an overlap from being asleep and a sign of over exhaustion. However, when I googled it, lots of other people have had the same experience!

In fact, the general consensus was that these stick men were always 'on the go/innttansit somewhere', and they always reacted strangely when they realised they had been seen. The other interesting thing is that they often have a very jolly and jovial demeanor, just like my guy did.

I'm not coming at this from too much of a woo perspective, as I do think it was slee0 related. However, I do think it's a bit nuts to have seen this and then find out other people did too!

Did any of you ever see the Stickman?????

I was thinking of the old post about the stick man too! Think it was on one of the paranormal threads. She said she saw it out in the street in the early hours of the morning and that it was angry at being seen and followed her home.

it defo wasn’t slenderman, it was much more like what you’re describing. Inter dimension being maybe!

I tried doing a mumsnet search when it happened but didn't find anything! I'll check again!

Absolutely promise you yes. When I read your post I got the chills and just knew what you were talking about but seeing the photo confirmed it. I’ve mentioned it to a few different people over the years and they’ve all looked at me like I was crazy but as I said it just stuck with me so much. I felt like it was a living being - like alive - in a way other hallucinations haven’t seemed to be.

For me I was awake. Opposite the bed was a wall, most of which was in shadow, to the right of that wall was the door. The door was half open so the bit of the wall nearest it was lit up, the rest of the wall further inside the room was dark.
I thought i heard someone and assumed it was a parent coming upstairs. I looked to the half open door. That was when I saw the stickman thing - it moved from the dark side of the wall, across the light bit and out of the door.

I was really freaked out and shouted for my parent, hoping it might have been them and some weird trick of the light but it definitely wasn’t either of my parents as they came running upstairs to my calls and I had to shout loudly and several times to get them to hear me.

It looked like a shadow moving across the light bit of wall if you can picture what I mean. And it didn’t move its arms or legs, it just held its shape as it moved left to right. Did yours move its limbs?

you said it felt friendly? To me it felt very frightening because it was so real. And almost as though it had got “caught out” by me - as if it was trying to slip out my room while I wasn’t looking. I was actually only telling my partner about it a few weeks ago. Maybe it was so scary because I was a child - 12/13 maybe?

Your post has legitimised genuinely 2 decades of feeling like this was real but not knowing why because no one else had ever seen it. And people talked about slender man but it didn’t look like that. It looked just like what you describe.

Ok…now I do sound crazy!

I see giant spiders. Last week it was a spider/centipede hybrid. They always run along my bedroom wall and go behind the cabinet.
By the time I'm fully awake and freaking tf out, they're gone. I still always spend about 10 mins looking behind the cabinets for those pesky invisible fuckers 😂

Devonshiregal · 07/04/2024 23:42

This is so weird. It’s the thickness - that’s why I never found the right thing on Google because it I never called it stickman…more like ‘thick’man. And the one I saw was about 7ft. What was yours like? Im too scared to google shadownmen/walkers as some people commented in the Reddit comments lol

SplitFountainPen · 07/04/2024 23:46

It makes sense that all these kind of things are experienced by many people in a similar way. After all our brains are all very similar, it would be more unusual if they weren't malfunctioning in similar ways.
In a different but comparable situation, it's like how schizophrenia tends to have the same god themes or similar paranoias. Even when the brain isn't working as it should it tends to do it in a fairly predictable and common way.

Oh my gosh, thank you for this! I shouldn't have read so much before going to sleep last night though! Absolutely amazing that there are hundreds of comments about this thing. I've linked the mumsnet thread where I mentions the stick man:

In my research, there does seem to be a crossover between two types of stickmen. One is like a drawing, the kind I saw that is on bathroom doors and public warning signs. The other seems to be a tall skinny creature made of actual sticks (like a human stick insect, except massive).

Mine was more like the guy in my original photo but the essence is similar. Faceless beings with very basic humanoid limbs. Always feeling put out to have been seen. Wow.

Or do we all need another [wine]? I just find it all fascinating.

Yes, I find that a lot of the descriptions talk about a tall skinny being made out of stick like body parts. Mine was exactly like the Google image I shared. Like a stock image. The one I 'saw' was not very tall. Maybe around 5 ft. I can't actually remember seeing him running, but sensing his speed if that makes sense.

I actually had a disturbed sleep last night (probably reading too many spooky stories) but I did have another weird hypogogic thing.

It was like one of those horrible rubber stress ball things that are covered in a netlike substance, and when you tighten the net, the rubbery bits all ooze out so it looks like a raspberry. It had small triangular spikes, fin-like things sticking out. I'll try to draw it! It was green and when I woke up I focused hard on it. It moved up and got smaller and vanished.

My mind is nuts!

In case anyone is interested! No idea what it is! Maybe it's some kind of light pattern in my eyelid that my eye picked up when it was closed??? Who knows!

I regularly see things at night / in my sleep. Spiders, floating heads, people, birds, spinning shapes. I've had this for years and years and it's awful. About once a month I will see something terrifying and "know" that I'm about to be attacked or killed and will scream for help. I've woken my kids up with the screaming on several occasions but I'm not in control of it.
I've never clearly seen a Stick Man but I have seen many variations of people and animals, sometimes moving, sometimes just standing there.
It's a sleep disorder. I have zero inclination towards woo and despite the many ghostly figures I've seen I know absolutely that it is all in my head, it is my brain wrongly interpreting shadows and shapes in the darkness when I'm not fully awake.
Still bloody terrifying when it happens though!

I’ve often had hypnagogic hallucinations but mine are things like spiders on the walls or very occasionally floating skulls.

They are “real” but by the time I’ve jumped out of bed, shouted and turned the lights on they’re gone.

Your Stickman story is shitting me up, tbh.

I've seen the spider.

I just assumed it was some very weird, waking hallucination. Quite odd, isn't it!

There’s something called the Mandela effect where loads of people say they’ve seen or experienced the same thing but the thing turns out to be a false memory. The name comes from a widespread belief that Mandela died in the 80s. There’s loads of examples. One is people thinking that the famous portrait of Henry VIII showed him with a chicken bone. Another is that the little man on the Monopoly game is wearing a monocle.

Before I went to bed, I was checking when my next period is due on this app. Think it explains my 'vision'! I couldn't have told you what the app looked like if you'd asked!

When I was peri-menopausal, I suffered from absolute face-melting three-day-long migraines a couple of times a month and on those occasions had to spend at least 24 hours in bed attempting to sleep it off.

My GP tried me on topiramate, which had...er...interesting side-effects, not least of which were that I started muddling my words terribly and writing back-to-front. It knocked out the main migraine symptoms but not the associated lethargy, so I still needed to take a long afternoon nap a couple of times a week.

One afternoon, I woke up to find my ginger cat curled up on DH's pillow beside me...but he'd turned green. A beautiful bright green with darker green stripes and swirls. Everything else in the bedroom was its proper colour, the view out the window was the same as always... I blinked slowly, several times, but my cat remained green.

I knew that it must be some kind of hypnopompic hallucination, possibly as a side-effect of the medication, but no matter what I did, I couldn't get him to revert to his usual ginger appearance. Just from my very sensible reaction and my line of reasoning about it being a hallucination, I could have sworn my brain was properly in gear and I was 100% awake, but in retrospect I can't have been.

ignatiusjreilly · 08/04/2024 11:19

When my grandma was very ill and waiting for an ambulance, she kept asking my mum if she could see all the little stickmen running up the walls. She seemed surprised my mum couldn't see them.

Exact same here, including the centipede/ spider hybrid.
It's always so incredibly vivid and it's always scuttling high up.

Last week, a new variant made itself known: a purple and black mass, like a ball, but made up of individual strands that all moved and expanded and contracted.

I can remember it so vividly.

It's somewhat of a relief to know others experience it too.

PToosher · 08/04/2024 16:38

I saw a black figure, about 4 foot 6 tall and very skinny, run in front of me when I was walking home one night. It was completely black from head to toe, like it was wearing a morph suit, and ran directly under a street light maybe 20 feet in front of me. It went onto the front lawn of a garden and then was gone, although there was nowhere for it to go to.
It scared the shite out of me.
