I've just bought myself a coverless duvet!!

I've had my eye on these for a while, and found it on Vinted, a king size one. It's only 10.5 tog, so I'm hoping it's going to be warm enough (I'm in Scotland).
I feel very excited at the thought of potentially not having to change my duvet covers again.
And it fits in the machine for washing!
Please share my excitement. I don't even care that my chat is so sad Grin

But then you have to wash the whole duvet instead of just the covers? And whereas you could probably fit 2 or 3 covers into a single load, you can only do one load at time by washing the whole thing.

All that extra energy consumption from the washing machine and inevitable tumble dryer use to get it dry in time for the same evening. Greta won't be pleased.

Exactly this. I wash my superking duvet cover, king fitted sheet and a few towels in one load every week.

If I had a coverless duvet I would have to do 2 loads. So wasteful and time consuming.

And then you have to dry the whole duvet too.

I have coverless duvets for the kids so much easier than messing around with covers and less to wash.

How is it less to wash. You are washing a whole duvet rather than just a duvet cover.

Wow- so many aggro people on this thread! Can people not understand that people like different things and have different lives?

I got one a few years ago when I was having shoulder problems and was struggling with duvet covers- and I love it. I have the Fine Bedding one in the waffle finish. I have a normal washing machine and I can wash it, it's a king, and dry over a heated dryer in a day no problem. I love sleeping with it as well, its so light and warm, agree with PP who said its like a cloud.

I like a pretty bed too so I have a few gorgeous throws and blankets and pillowcases that I can swap to mix it up a bit.

I just use a supersoft duvet without a cover and wash it regularly

Have I got this correct. It takes the place of a sheet and duvet. So you have to wash it every week.

I think they are to be used with a flat sheet between you and the duvet. So it's more like an eiderdown.
But I can't bear having a sheet over me under the duvet as it gets all tangled and rucked up so I'd have to wash it weekly and that seems worse than dealing with duvet covers

mondaytosunday · 04/04/2024 19:10

I have one, just 4 tog though. In the winter I have a very snuggly velour type duvet set which I put it in (I will sacrifice the hassle) which is just like sleeping in a cloud. But in the summer it's bare and great!

I’m really keen to buy a coverless duvet but they all seem to be synthetic I want a 100% cotton one, I’ll sweat to death otherwise!

TammyJones · 04/04/2024 19:31

I've stopped putting my duvet cover on. I just throw it over the duvet.
I do have a fitted sheet and top sheet , which u wash weekly.

Really? That's your response?

fridgegrazer · 04/04/2024 19:58

I was looking at them but I think it said you needed a washer with a 10kg load and mine is only 7kg - so maybe when I replace the washer.

RoastLambs · 04/04/2024 20:06

Really? That's your response?

Yes, because it's ludicrously lazy for a teenager to be protected against the difficulty of changing their own bedding.

savoycabbage · 04/04/2024 20:08

It just all seems like a step backwards. Washing great big duvets every week and putting them on your heated dryer with a dehumidifier on.

They’re not great big. They’re much lighter than a traditional duvet. They take 3 hours to air dry in the house. No need for a dryer.

bunhead1979 · 04/04/2024 20:11

I do all my laundry on a heated airer with dehumidifier so so different for me.

I love mine but sleep under a sheet with the duvet on top so mostly just wash the sheet, not the duvet.

We do this anyway. With a Duvet with a cover on!

Caswallonthefox · 04/04/2024 22:27

I've gone even further back and mostly use sheets and blankets.
If it's really cold I do break out a duvet but use it over a sheet.
I can't sleep with a really light duvet because it doesn't cocoon right and it never stays where its supposed to and tucking in the bottom creates even more annoyance.
I grew up with eiderdowns, my mother, for reasons only known to her, covered them with a slippery gold patterned nylon material.
My 1st duvet was a feather one and all the feathers ended up at the bottom eventually.

Lastarse · 04/04/2024 22:28

I don’t put a cover on my wool duvet, just use a sheet under, I like the minimalist scandi look and dislike duvet covers.
I never thought a lack of duvet covers was such a controversial subject !

I know, right. Who knew that coverless duvets would be the Marmite of the bedding world!

Sounds fab.

I dont have a cover on my 7.5 tog duvet and just wash it once a week. It drys very quickly.

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/04/2024 06:51

I don't get it

So Instead of washing a duvet cover - yes I know you need to change it and takes few mins to change kingsize bed

You have to then wash a the duvet itself weekly

That's obv if you change the bed weekly as I do

Obv some change fortnightly

Others monthly or less - blondes shudders

I always strip Friday (as my darling mum did) and clean bedding Friday night to sleep on

Seems a weird invention

Where as robot hoovers @JMSA

I love mine !!! Had around 7/8yrs now

Neato for 5. He died

Eufy last 2yrs

People who struggle to change duvet covers love them so not a strange invention for them.
