I've had my eye on these for a while, and found it on Vinted, a king size one. It's only 10.5 tog, so I'm hoping it's going to be warm enough (I'm in Scotland).
I feel very excited at the thought of potentially not having to change my duvet covers again.
And it fits in the machine for washing!
Please share my excitement. I don't even care that my chat is so sad Grin

I use coverlets throughout summer and we love them. So easy not making the sheets , one less job for sure.

I do live in aus though so it's abit warmer then Scotland 😄

My gosh.. imagine having to wash a whole duvet every week.
Nothing beats fresh clean sheets and duvet covers every week.
I sometimes change twice a week.

Well, I really couldn't be bothered with that.

But, but, I like all my different patterned and different coloured duvet covers and matching sheets, warm and cozy coloured brushed cotton ones in the winter and light coloured linen covers in the summer. You'll have to prise my pretties out of my cold dead hands.

I have a summer one. I wash it in the morning and it's dry by bedtime - much quicker than a cotton duvet cover. It's light and fits easily in the washing machine.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 04/04/2024 16:28

DS has one, he couldn’t keep a duvet cover on, this is a game changer

I totally understand that!
I'm going to keep my fleecy fitted sheet for over the mattress.
For me, it was time to bite the bullet with this, as I really needed a new duvet anyway.

It was my sister who originally gave me the idea, as one of her children has kidney issues and used to wet the bed a lot.

I have a winter one and a summer one. They’re so easy to wash and dry in a few hours

Starship21 · 04/04/2024 16:30

Fine bedding company do some lovely ones, my Dd has a couple of them. So much easier!!

BettySundaes · 04/04/2024 16:31

I don't get it either, a duvet cover is a decorative feature of the bedroom. I use a top sheet underneath to avoid washing/replacing the duvet cover so frequently.

pickledandpuzzled · 04/04/2024 16:33

I don’t find my duvet cover needs frequent washing. The bottom sheets, absolutely, too covers really don’t seem to need it. I love putting pillows and quilts through the machine in the summer. I’m just sad I can’t do it more in the winter. I had an Ikea coverless one I could wash whenever I wanted.

I love fresh clean sheets too and wash it every week, and then I have a fresh clean entire duvet too!

It really is nothing like a normal duvet. It's a totally different, lighter thing that's far easier to wash and dry.

My king size 4 tog coverless duvet fits in my 9kg washing machine along with the fitted sheet and pillowcases absolutely no bother.

Shinyandnew1 · 04/04/2024 16:33

Do the plain ones all look like this with the wavy lines? They look rather like a nudie duvet (I know that’s essentially what they are!)-I thought they’d have a nicer look about them

Yes, it will fall down on the decorative aspect, I agree. I will make up for that by using a nice throw and some pretty pillowcases (which I already own).

I personally would never choose a white one, as it looks much too like a naked duvet!
This is mine. I'm not saying it's beautiful but it is practical!

I don't intend to have a spare. Wash and dry on the same day.

No spare? What happens when you spill your bedtime cocoa all over it?

4 tog? Isn’t that just a thick sheet?

😁

JMSA · 04/04/2024 16:40

@maudelovesharold

Then I'm fucked Grin
Only joking, I'll use a couple of sofa blankets and the coverless one will be dry by the following day.

Exactly! I like changing up the look of the room and I'd get bored of the same eiderdown duvet on all year round. And what if it gets stained?

Corinthiana · 04/04/2024 16:44

TheThingIsYeah · 04/04/2024 13:47

But then you have to wash the whole duvet instead of just the covers? And whereas you could probably fit 2 or 3 covers into a single load, you can only do one load at time by washing the whole thing.

All that extra energy consumption from the washing machine and inevitable tumble dryer use to get it dry in time for the same evening. Greta won't be pleased.

That's what I don't understand. Isn't it cheaper and more convenient to wash the cover?

Yes, that would only work a couple of months of the year where I live!

We have them on all beds - fabulous! Ours is the king size waffle cotton one which is extra special. Wouldn't swap them now, so easy to wash and change.
