I've had my eye on these for a while, and found it on Vinted, a king size one. It's only 10.5 tog, so I'm hoping it's going to be warm enough (I'm in Scotland).
I feel very excited at the thought of potentially not having to change my duvet covers again.
And it fits in the machine for washing!
Please share my excitement. I don't even care that my chat is so sad Grin

Have I got this correct. It takes the place of a sheet and duvet. So you have to wash it every week.

If that's so, then you surely must need a tumble dryer.

The weather is too fuckin awful even to consistently dry regular laundry outside right now. It would surely take days inside (and cause you damp problems)

And use a whole machine to wash !

Chamomileteaplease · 04/04/2024 15:56

Yeah I am not getting this at all.

Why would you rather wash a whole duvet than just a duvet cover?

😳

Exactly

They're easier to deal with if you have any sort of mobility problems. I use a sheet under mine so only have two sheets and two pillow cases to wash, which dry very quickly and can be back on the bed in a few hours.

I've never had a tumble dryer and dry outside nearly all the time. The occasions when I need to dry inside, I have a heated airer. I wash the duvet sometimes and it takes a couple of hours to dry, max.

ZaZathecat · 04/04/2024 16:02

I haven't got one but it's tempting. The reason is that changing duvet covers kills my back - so I put off doing it!

QuestionableMouse · 04/04/2024 16:02

If I wash mine, I just put it on the radiator and it dries within about 12 hours!

PotatoPudding · 04/04/2024 16:03

I have summer and winter coverless duvets from Fine Bedding Company and can’t fault them at all.

lissie123 · 04/04/2024 16:03

I’ve just bought one too. Can’t wait til it arrives, so exciting. Will report back.

So this is being back to the 1950s when we had 2 sheets a an eiderdown. I remember when we first had duvets and they kept you warm by contouring your body in a way sheets and eiderdowns can’t. The duvet also should not be tucked in so you can throw a bit back if you are too warm.

Flossflower · 04/04/2024 16:07

For mobility problems try the burrito method of changing a duvet.

Coldupnorth87 · 04/04/2024 16:08

I have the Fine Bedding double and it definitely does wash and dry in a day.

Again a combo of dehumidifier and heated airer, no tumble dryer.

Love mine.

In the UK?!

I can count on one hand the days I've been able to dry outside since the start of the year. I'm not talking sunny days. I'm talking days when it simply hasn't rained.

CuntRYMusicStar · 04/04/2024 16:13

We have a coverless duvets for the whole family and love them. So easy to wash and dry really quickly - in spring/summer/autumn on the line and in winter in the tumble dryer.

Feel so much cleaner and you don't have to deal with changing the covers or the horrible texture of a 'naked' duvet!

Yuop · 04/04/2024 16:14

I hate changing the cover with a passion and struggle due to wrist issues but heaving the whole quilt to the washing machine and then the drying situation sounds like much more work. I don’t have a dryer and my covers take ages to dry let alone a quilt.

Plus you don’t need to find storage for duvet covers.

JMSA · 04/04/2024 16:18

I mean, it's not difficult. They're made of a much lighter material than normal duvets, so do take much less time to dry (hence my initial worry about it being warm enough at 10.5 tog). Yes, it will take up the whole machine when I wash it, but I plan on doing that every two weeks as there's only one of me in the bed! And it surely has to be more hygienic. No, it's not like the 50s because we have automatic washing machines now. Duvets would have been a nightmare back then!
Each to their own. I had a robot hoover for about a week before selling it on, as I couldn't be doing with it at all. But the vast majority of Mumsnetters swear by them!

It's not a case of heaving as they're incredibly light.

OP- How big is your washing machine that it can fit a King sized duvet in it?

GameOfJones · 04/04/2024 16:22

Love ours. We only have coverless duvets for both DH and I and the DDs now. We have the Fine Bedding Company ones, DDs are from Asda.

I'll be honest, the main benefit is that I HATE putting duvets into covers with a passion. I love just throwing the coverless duvet onto the bed.

They are soft and warm, are washed every week and can be washed and dried in a day. They're also ideal for putting back in the drawstring bags they come in and taking camping or for caravan holidays.

Although OP I have to say our 10.5 tog one was an absolute bugger to dry! But it was the waffle cotton one and that seems to be a regular complaint. My seersucker and herringbone ones are a lot better.

I don't have back issues, luckily, but it's my least favourite chore by far and is guaranteed to put me in a stinking mood!

My gosh.. imagine having to wash a whole duvet every week.
Nothing beats fresh clean sheets and duvet covers every week.
I sometimes change twice a week.

10kg. I've already checked and it will fit.

For the unbelieving, you have to erase the image you have of a duvet. These are much lighter, totally different material. I have them for the kids’ beds and am planning on buying for adults too. They wash and dry in a day easily. I originally bought for vomity kids, as they’re so easy to throw in the wash. But have since found I much prefer them myself, they’re comfier and warmer than my traditional heavy duvet.
