I’ll start with Ryan Reynolds. He honestly seems completely down to earth, responsive to his fans and likes to have a good joke at his own expense

@2mummies1baby Yep. So why should "celebrities" be praised for being normal human beings? I expect more before I call someone a "genuinely good" person, celebrity or not!

I guess the reasoning is that if, as a celebrity, you are surrounded by people telling you how amazing you are all the time, it must take some humility or moral fibre or something not to start believing your own hype and treating other people like they’re worth less than you…?

Donsyb · 06/04/2024 09:44

I met Rami Malek last year at the hotel where I work and he was lovely. Very charming, humble and grateful to everyone. He’d been to Waitrose to pick up some yoghurt for someone on set who was unwell.

JK Rowling.

Please tell me you're joking.

@MrsLargeEmbodied
Keanu gives huge amounts of money to children's and cancer charities.
Tends to be very respectful of women, when they take photos he never touches them more hovers his hand around their back.
Plus he has had a pretty traumatic life himself with several significant personal bereavements and tends to live a fairly normal lifestyle despite his career.

Ryan Reynolds the man who has with the help of his business partner saved a struggling Welsh town and improved many people's employment prospects

Ryan Reynolds is also a perfect example of how a man should treat his wife and daughters (or at least that the impression they give). Treats them with respect and adores them. Praises his wife regularly and seems like he will bring his daughters up to be nice, ambitious, hard working and see themselves as equal to men.

I love Liza Tarbuck and like to think we could be mates 😁

@Zatapeg @MsLuxLisbon I met Johnny Depp when I was 19, at Planet Hollywood. A member of his team sexually assaulted me and when I made a fuss Depp said "get her out" and then laughed as I was physically thrown down the steps at the front of the building. That man is a misogynistic cunt. I have told this story before and been called a liar by Depp super fans. Pro social relationships are very odd.

Dave Santan paid for mine and DH's dinner and drinks when his mates were all being very loud (but lovely and we had no issue with them at all) nearby when we had an anniversary dinner.

Sean Paul was very patient and kind and sweet to DD when she was totally starstuck in the airport. Took loads of photos and recorded her a voice mail etc. Lovely man, lovely family.

BustyLaRoux · 06/04/2024 10:02

@User1979289 I’m so sorry that happened to you. I believe you. I’ve always loved JD. Never wanted to believe the things Amber said. In fact I don’t believe half of it and think they are probably as bad as each other. Everyone loves to love this man but the more I hear the more I think regrettably he just isn’t the lovely man we all want him to be.

I think rich people should pay for their. Children's education. Schools are too stretched

That's one way to look at it, the other way is if the rich/famous/influential had to send their kids to the local comp or rely on the NHS standards would rise.

I don't mean sending your kids across London to a handpicked school, the local one regardless of ofsted or anything else.

I think it's important to remember that, just because Amber Heard is an awful person, it doesn't mean Johnny Depp isn't also an awful person. I think they are both deeply fucked up, terrible people.

I don't know any celebrities personally, so I can't judge - I don't think you can rely on their public persona as a measure of character.

Booooooooo

Wrong.

The evidence very strongly suggests you are being blind here.

I think that is true and sometimes dysfunctional people seem to attract dysfunctional partners and the whole thing escalates. I didn't follow the trial closely like lots of people did but in the bits I saw neither of them came across as very nice people. Of course you can also say giving evidence in a trial isn't a very normal situation and they might be lovely in a different situation.

No idea what GC means but yes I am a regular person and despise JKR for her transphobia and fuelling hate. Yes.

You might find reading the feminist boards educational because she isn’t doing either of those things AT ALL.

hornsofahugedilemma · 06/04/2024 10:38

A family member worked with Esther Rantzen, she was vile. Loathed by a lot of people (ie those who've met her).

Exactly what has JKR said that is ‘transphobic’? Please also explain what ‘transphobic’ means to you. Ta

User1979289 · 06/04/2024 10:40

@2mummies1baby yes, this is what I find so odd. She almost certainly married him for money and power and was abusive. He did batter her. The fact she is horrible doesn't make him good.

It all reminded me of the Royal Family and Megan. She might be an opportunistic grifter but that does not mean that they were not racist. Both can be true.

Parasocial relationships have always existed but with the rise of social media it has become very odd imo!

Shry · 06/04/2024 10:41

Ricky Gervais and Paul O'Grady - big animal lovers and loads of rescue work requires so much empathy. I cant imagine them being anything but good, kind people.

You cannot know what " transphobia" is without knowing what GC is.

JK Rowling is an outstanding woman, her charitable giving and support of marginalised and vulnerable women would have her a seat in the house of Lords if it was not for the rabid mob who lack reading comprehension skills and misunderstand her views on single sex spaces.

I've also read stories by female co-actors who have suffered similar behaviour from the same source.

We've bought so far into the (patriarchal) Hollywood dream that people really can't bear it if their heroes are revealed to have feet of clay. They are human, just like everyone else.
