I’ll start with Ryan Reynolds. He honestly seems completely down to earth, responsive to his fans and likes to have a good joke at his own expense

That's what I meant earlier about JKR. She isn't all sweetness and light, and she is tough on nonsense, but she is truly kind. She has donated masses of money to various causes. People who drag her really get my goat, of course one of the woke mob on here just HAD to say that 'she isn't my hero'. Suck it up, buttercup! JKR isn't here for your ridiculous lies, fantasies and delusions.

It's often twisted. If the person she's been 'unkind' to is a certain news reader who is constantly bleating about her, attacking her and then complaining of victimhood when she retaliates in far milder terms, then this exchange hasn't come out of the blue. This person has been going after her on Twitter for years.

The police report for 'misgendering' also followed a threat of kidnapping against three named women - friends of Rowling's - against which she retaliated. Of course, she was then the one accused of 'hateful' behaviour. The aggressor backtracked, claiming it had been a joke. We're all familiar with the kind of bully who hides behind 'humour' and 'you can't take a joke' as their recourse to plausible deniability.

I'm surprised Rowling played into anyone's hands by responding to the goading, but she's a smart woman. I'm assuming she had her reasons.

Not all women. You don't speak for me.

She speaks for far more women than not. And you certainly don’t speak for the people of Edinburgh either. Your opinion is a minority one.

Ketzele · 05/04/2024 18:16

Martin Lewis used to work for my mum, back when all here was grass. She says he was nice.

Or me. I’ll always respect JKR as a writer for the impact her books had on my childhood, but anyone who viciously and publicly attacks individual people just to make a point is undoubtedly unkind.

Edited

Except she has done absolutely nothing of the sort and I challenge you to provide a direct quote of something nasty she has been proven to have said. I bet you can’t.

Marmalade43 · 05/04/2024 18:23

Davina McCall

Same in reality as in Tv.

Good sort, called Jim Davidson a bit of a wan£&r.
Has a laugh, no fakery I could notice.

Westwood was someone I’d always disliked.
the whitest black person you’d meet.

It’s all an act. Had a decent chat at a club we were both gigging in and he’s not the person you see and hear on tv and radio.

Brendan Fraser and Keanu Reeves, both seem to be the sweetest guys and very down to earth.

If you Google their personal lives, it may well explain why.

I adore Brendan Fraser he is the sweetest man keanu goes without saying 😍

laylababe5 · 05/04/2024 18:27

Keanu Reeves, David Tennant, Michael Sheen. I'm only picking them cos they're all terribly attractive to boot 🤣🤣🤣

Mrsjayy · 05/04/2024 18:27

Doesn't Westwood come from Norfolk or Cambridge? Its hardly "the hood" 😀

2mummies1baby · 05/04/2024 18:28

I can't believe it's taken me so long to think of Julianne Moore! I have had a crush on her since I first watched "Nine Months" at the age of five! She seems so classy and down to earth.

We had event launching Neil Buchanan's art a few years ago. They didn't sell, but what a nice helpful man. We had people queuing to meet him, some fabs of Art Attack, abd quite a few heavy metal fans bringing his albums along to sign. I can't remember the name if his band.

BlackCountryWench2 · 05/04/2024 18:35

My husband’s family married into the McCartney clan and yes, Paul is lovely! His children had a remarkably normal childhood, so much so that he bought Stella’s pram second hand. They weren’t spoiled at all. He sends signed copies of his new albums out in the post to family members and my husband got invited to one of his gigs with VIP seating with Stella and co, and backstage access (sadly, before we got together). Apparently, his last wedding was a hoot, all the Scouse matriarchs at the society shindig of the year tutting at the designer clothing!

The chap from Art Attack was in a Heavy Metal band? I did not know that..

Jacqueline Wilson: we travelled from Poland to Oxford to see her and my 10 year old DD was unbelievably excited as she has loved her books for years. DD wrote her a 5 page letter and shek seemed genuinely happy to receive it. Today, we got a postcard through the post, hand written, with a message which showed she'd read the letter as she replied to points made in it. Made my and DD's day if not year!

This story intrigued me, so I googled.

Same type of story, but different author. I wonder where the truth lies here?

I did wonder as Lee Child was from Coventry and Martin Amis was from Oxford I think. Lee's family moved to Birmingham when he was a child and he grew up in Birmingham, I lived quite close to them.

JKR, Stacey Solomon, Stacey Dooley, Fiona Bruce, Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, Cher.

My son and I met Tom Hanks. He is a sincerely lovely man. Te has an ability to make you feel he is your family friend and genuinely enjoys speaking with you.
My son who was about 8 at the time frequently refers back to that meeting.

If that is directed at me you really are over the top. I merely said she isn't my hero when it was stated she was a hero to all women. I haven't told any lies about her, I certainly don't have fantasies or delusions about her. She just isn't a hero to me. Sorry if you can't get your head round that but you might have noticed that we don't all like the same people.

Bartonzam · 05/04/2024 18:55

Amanda Holden? Emma Forbes? Liz Earle?

StasisMom · 05/04/2024 18:55

I remember when Julia Roberts first got with Danny Moder, whose ex was called Vera, and JR wore a t shirt with the slogan "A Low Vera". Which seems a little unkind.

The difference is I never claimed to speak for the people of Edinburgh. I might be in a minority but I seriously doubt it's a minority of one, I never was one to blindly follow the mob.

Phil Spencer. Always polite and pleasant

Big game hunter. I know, he does seem really nice.
To offset my negativity, I do agree with 90% of the names mentioned and my heart will always melt at the George Michael Deal or No Deal story.

George Michael really did seem a good guy.

Rhaenys · 05/04/2024 19:02

JKR and Taylor Swift coming up in many of the same posts is very telling.

StasisMom · 05/04/2024 19:04

Omg how is Gillian Anderson a nightmare?! I'm going to add - Sara Cox, Jason Watkins, Toby Jones.
