I’ll start with Ryan Reynolds. He honestly seems completely down to earth, responsive to his fans and likes to have a good joke at his own expense

Ralph Little of Two Pints, Royale Family etc, has been on tv a lot recently.

He comes across like a really nice person.

Johnny Depp was defending himself from abuse. Amber Heard is and was an abuser, a grifter, and a liar. Men can be victims of abuse.

Of course men can.

But if most of us saw a man behaving the way Depp did during the trials, and read the numerous messages he sent, and more, we would unanimously agree he was abusive - regardless of what his wife may or may not have done.

There are several reasons why I believe (regardless of how Heard may have behaved) that Depp was abusive & the defamation trial in the US doesn't absolve him of that.

Depp-Heard trial: Why Johnny Depp lost in the UK but won in the US

Experts say key factors included having a jury trial and his lawyers using a specific legal tactic.

Joaquine Phoenix.
He's always so lovely to me in all the fantasies I have about him.

Another vote for Paul McCartney. My dp used to work at his place in Peasemarsh and Paul would always stop and chat to him if he was around. DP says Linda was lovely as well.

I know someone who went to school with one of the children from Paul's first marriage. That person and a few people I know say that Paul and Linda always behaved like any other parents, never expected preferential treatment.
(Paul and Linda sent their kids to local state schools; Heather insisted their daughter went private).

Henning Wehn lives in the next town to me and dp has got to know him. I've met HW a couple of times and he's a nice bloke.

Natalie Cassidy always comes across as being nice.

Around where I live Alan Shearer has a reputation for being a bit of a nob. However I know of an occasion where a child with quite severe needs was very excited to meet him, however it transpired that the child had muddled up Alan Shearer and David Beckham. Without skipping a beat, AS realised what had happened and just played along - didn't mock the kid but nor did he correct him either. I always thought that said a lot about him.

I once met some people working on an Anthony Hopkins movie and they spoke quite highly of him.

And I was once manning the phones for a particular charity back in the days when you had to phone up to donate and Joanne Lumley called up and donated an obscene amount.

Some children I worked with once met kate Middleton through a local charity. They are very streetwise kids who don't care at all for the royal family but came away very impressed with this 'princess who was practically a giant' that they'd met.

ohfook · 05/04/2024 15:35

Oh and obviously dolly. She just seems lovely, but also I get the feeling very few people know the real her.

Mrsjayy · 05/04/2024 15:46

Dolly Parton is a literal angel and if it came out she was horrible then it would be the end of my world 😄

Mrsjayy · 05/04/2024 15:48

I can't imagine Dolly has got as far as she has without delicately stepping on toes though.

Singleandproud · 05/04/2024 15:52

@Mrsjayy perhaps professionally she had to but you can be assertive without being, rude it aggressive or breaking various laws, I'm sure there are things she would do differently with hindsight but what she has done with her wealth is pretty extraordinary and has helped millions of people.

Linedbook · 05/04/2024 15:56

I think good people are rarely "nice". No one who makes good stuff happen does it by being all sweetness and light.

She's an absolute legend

Jeff Goldblum

I met him briefly backstage at a work thing a few years ago, he's so charming my pants practically fell off. Donatella Versace was there too she's weeeeeny.

DonnasShrugaleros · 05/04/2024 17:09

Reading Sam Neil's book at the moment, comes across as a really decent sort

That's what I meant earlier about JKR. She isn't all sweetness and light, and she is tough on nonsense, but she is truly kind. She has donated masses of money to various causes. People who drag her really get my goat, of course one of the woke mob on here just HAD to say that 'she isn't my hero'. Suck it up, buttercup! JKR isn't here for your ridiculous lies, fantasies and delusions.

I've been trying to find this clip since Jimmy Savile was mentioned on this thread. It could explain why he was never held to account despite what he was doing being an open secret.

worldwidetravel2017 · 05/04/2024 17:43

Lemar

Very grounded, very genuine

Noononoo · 05/04/2024 17:54

Ryan Gorgeous Gosling

TreacleMoon · 05/04/2024 18:01

Brendan Fraser and Keanu Reeves, both seem to be the sweetest guys and very down to earth.

If you Google their personal lives, it may well explain why.

Rod Stewart.

my brother worked on a video of his in around 1990. Stewart came across as self-important. Didn't wish to hang about with the crew so sent his driver to the off-licence for a bottle of rum & spent the afternoon drinking in his limousine with his manager.

That isn't bad in itself. It's one thing to be actively rude, and another to just not be super pally.

Ryan Gosling, seems incredibly genuinune

Surprised at all the love for Johnny Depp, I think he exposed his true self during both trials with Amber Heard

Re Ryan Reynolds - call me a cynic but I'm wary of anyone who buys up so much power & influence in one locality. I'm sure he's charm personified to everyone there - he has to be, doesn't he?

As to the argument about animal rights & supporters of which being horrible - some people think that backing a worthy cause gives them right to be abusive & foul to anyone who disagrees with them.

Depp is a horror. Even if every single word that ever came out of Amber Heard's mouth was a lie (forget his side, her side and the truth), he's still a horror.

Cf. Brad Pitt and Mel Gibson. Even when the latter's abusive behaviour was recorded for all to hear, it was still all proclaimed to be the woman's fault. She was lying. Oops, here's unassailable evidence to the contrary. Well, then, she must have 'driven him to drink'. He'd been an addict for decades before ever meeting her. 'Okay, she's a gold digger then'. Or 'she must have pushed his buttons'. The goalposts will always be moved so it's somehow a woman's fault.

Addicts are no picnic to live with, as anyone who's ever tried it will testify. Presumably this equally applies to revered Hollywood actors.

Keanu Reeves

Totally agree with both of these. They seem totally unthreatening.

Ketzele · 05/04/2024 18:12

Ooh I have a few comments on others nominations:

Esther Rantzen is not a nice woman - direct personal experience

Paul Weller - has treated women very shabbily

Harry Styles - my mate was his neighbour and says he's a lovely boy!

Lifechange2020 · 05/04/2024 18:14

Claire Sweeney was lovely when I met her. Also Jean Boht (Ma Boswell). Met her on a bench in Haworth, really genuine lady.
