I’ll start with Ryan Reynolds. He honestly seems completely down to earth, responsive to his fans and likes to have a good joke at his own expense

What do people think of Ben fogle. I always want to love him but hesitate

Interesting op because Ryan Reynolds has always given me the creeps

@Olivegardenishome Taylor is great and although lots of people love to hate her I think she lives her life how many of us dream we could if we had her kind of money. Doing what she loves, jet setting around and enjoying the luxuries, she offsets her carbon with twice the number of credits (although offsetting is never as good as not using in the first place) but also donating lots of her money.
She donates to food banks in every city she's in. Often visits children's wards to see and perform for those that had no chance of being at her shows.
Gave huge bonuses to her tour crew that allowed them to put down payments on houses etc. Her dancers have always had their insurance and health plans covered which apparently is very rare over there.
During COVID monitored social media and when she saw fans that were struggling paypal'd them $3000 to help them out.

She obviously comes from a place of huge privilege, her parents were wealthy but she sounds like she was just brought up really well when you hear others talk about her. I'm sure there's an element of managing her image but even so she's at a stage like JKR where she's pretty invincible, her fans are likely to be fans for life unless she did something truly terrible and she'll never need to work again.

I know people like to hate on Taylor, but I quite like her. I'm not a huge fan of her music, but I like her persona and the fact that she has strong loyalties. I also don't know why she gets more stick for her private jet use than do the Kardashians, who all use private jets.

Taylor Swift

Anna Kendrick seems to be a nice person too

She has an awful reputation. Notorious in LA for being horrid to service workers.

Kate Middleton
Jeff Goldblum
Dolly is queen

My ex worked with Drew Barrymore who is every bit as sweet as you would expect. He still loves her.

Emilio Estevez also an absolute gem.

Kim Kardashian incredibly polite.

Winona Ryder sweetheart

Brittany Murphy was a sweetheart with an edge.

Ryan Gosling very unpretentious. Good Canadian boy.

SJP cheap (but grew up in poverty so I get it) , but a doll to work with. Very very genuine and kind. **

Love this thread!

Another who’s always heard good things about Keanu and Tom H and would be upset to hear otherwise.

I can’t imagine Sir David Attenborough being awful either.

I’ve also got a huge soft spot for Olivia Colman - she seems really down to earth and likeable.

And JKR, obviously.

I think he seems thoroughly nice but a bit dim.

Greg James seems like a good 'un.

He’s a massive cricket lover, so he must be a good ‘un.

Someone did mention Roger Moore further up the thread. There were loads of stories came out after he died about what a lovely and genuine man he was. There were lots of stories of him going above and beyond for his fans.

I also heard a story about Angela Lansbury, that she kept MSW going for much longer than she really wanted so she could keep the steady employment for many that relied on it and she regularly made sure that struggling actors and past performers were given cameos and talking roles to allow them to remain in the Actor's Guild and retain their access to healthcare assistance.

I found Hugh Grant very kind to fans, under pressure from others who were trying to encourage him to ignore the fans and leave with them in their private taxi - he didn't and went round all the fans and didn't leave until he was sure everyone had a pic/autograph if they wanted one. Not sure if that was a dig at the people he was with though!

Angela is also a distant relative of Tory mp Penny Mordaunt, it’s a pity the humble generosity didn’t pass down.

Keanu Reeves, Ben Fogle and the late George Micheal and Paul O'Grady.

Despite his films being generally crude and unfunny, Adam Sandler is supposed to be a genuinely really good guy. I've only ever heard nice things from people who've met him and worked with him.

And a genocide supporter to boot, yeah lovely bloke.

Elodie9 · 04/04/2024 23:42

Lee Child (I have met him and he was really lovely to his fans)
Michael Ball I have had such a soft spot for him for years.
George Michael.
Queen of the world is Dolly
Carol the weather lady is so sweet on tv and everyone on the show seems to love her.

Josette77 · 04/04/2024 23:43

Adam Sandler is the real deal. His wife is also a gem.

Yes Keanu & George (rip) 💖

I could be wrong but I vaguely remember the Foos being involved with some dodgy Aids charity a few years ago (offering bogus cures or saying Aids wasn't real or something like that). I think that might be what pp is referring to.

Thanks @DavesSpareDeckChair . This is what I meant. Fat fingers, autocorrect and not proofreading fail. ALIVE and Well was the intended wording. There is a lot of info on said org online if you wanted to dig deeper. I'm not having a pop at DG / FF, at the time there was a lot of misinformation being spread etc, but even the "good' guys maybe have done things people consider bad at some point and putting people on a pedestal rarely ends well. @peppermintsforall

A few people have mentioned Julia Roberts - she is definitely not a nice person. A friend who has been in the film industry for 30+ years has worked with her on a couple of films & says she is the absolute worst person she has ever encountered. Very insecure & even at the height of her career when she was the highest paid actress in Hollywood, she hated having other women around her & would put down & degrade the female crew whilst turning on the charm to the men. Absolutely vile!

People should Google the story of her half-sister's suicide.

I would be disappointed if Emma Thompson were an arsehole in real life. Does anyone know whether she’s as lovely as I want her to be?

Not sure if any one has answered yet HRFT but an actor friend(ish - complicated!) of mine worked with her on a film. Said she was lovely which thrilled me as I adore her. However they said her husband wasn't as nice as her.

And your source for this is?

MillshakePickle · 05/04/2024 00:28

Shaquielle O'Neal - is absolutely lovely. I fell outside of a hotel and he was there with some other bball players. He helped me up and then spoke to my parents for ages. They even traded money - Canadian dollar bill for some American money. I was 9.

Mr T another gorgeous human being. Parents did some work for him and he insisted on meeting us kids. Very humble man

Will Mellor I've been a fan of his since he was in Hollyoaks. I follow him on SM so try and watch everything he is in. I've watched every episode of two pints of lager and a packet of crisps.

I love his sense of humour. But he also played the role of Lee Castleton in Mr Bates V the Post office really well. He got emotional when he met him.

Find the video where he talks about his missing cat. 😂

RandomForest · 05/04/2024 00:35

Find the video where he talks about his missing cat.

Bit like the video where Ozzy Osbourne accidentally texted Robert Plant and told him his cat was missing. 😂

I’ve always thought Richard Osman comes across as a good egg.

A friend who works in TV finds him rude and awful. Disappointing as I love him!

Apparently Dermot O'Leary is thoroughly nice.

hazandduck · 05/04/2024 00:44

I saw an interview with Ryan Reynolds where he said he did a sitcom early in his career and he watched the lead actor closely and from him learnt how ‘not to do it.’ This actor (didn’t name him) treated everyone beneath him appallingly, wouldn’t run lines with Ryan who was an extra etc. I think he probably is a bit of a scallywag (womaniser) but fundamentally good or at least very keen to be liked/insecure beneath the acting/Deadpool bravado.

He doesn’t give me the same sinister feelings of unease I get from Leo. I honestly think some horrible things will come out about him, probably after he dies. And I did love him as Jack Dawson! But think that is more to do with James Cameron’s influence than Leo’s.

In the same interview mentioned above Ryan said the best person he’s worked with, the one who gave him support and the time of day when he was a nobody, was Jason Bateman. Said he treats everyone the same. When someone goes on record about another celeb like that I feel like it must have a ring of truth. So happy to hear because Arrested Development is one of my absolute favourite shows ever!
