I’ll start with Ryan Reynolds. He honestly seems completely down to earth, responsive to his fans and likes to have a good joke at his own expense

Also that woman from This is England whose name currently evades me. Excellent actress and clearly awesome person too. Leads the dementia choir.

Sadly, I do know someone who has worked closely with Ricky Gervais for quite a long time, and who had little good to say about him. He is nice to animals; less so to humans.

None of us is perfect, though. We can all be kind in some ways and less kind in others. I try to be the best person I can be now, but I know I've done bad things that I regret. (And some bad things that I don't regret.) It is unreasonable to expect others to be wholly good.

Antony Cotton

I really, really want Graham Norton to be a good guy, he's always come across as so lovely.

Oh God, I'm so sorry, but he is apparently awful.

Buffyfan26 · 04/04/2024 22:44

Bryan Cranston seems like a nice, funny person!

Vicky McClure? Yeah, she seems cool.

Is this a joke? He regularly tops 'worst of the worst' lists, is apparently a massive diva and 'don't you know who I am''er.

Peter Kay

Yes! Love Peter Kay

Harry Styles 💕

Badbadbunny · 04/04/2024 22:49

Olivia Newton John. No one ever had a bad word to say. Did huge amounts of good for animals and the environment and founded her own cancer care hospital. Very humble in real life. Taken far too soon.

Billy Connolly. Lee Mack.

I used to live near Billy Connolly and met him lots of times. He is indeed a very nice, genuine, down to earth guy.

Alex Horne
Sara Pascoe
Clive Myrie

Rylan Clark - everyone who has met him says how lovely and humble he is. And there's a brilliant podcast where he talks about the importance of being nice to everyone and understanding that he's not special.

I know Rylan through my work and I was really impressed with how above and beyond he goes with normal people. I know he is/was normal but the influencers I come across are so up themselves. And I have no idea who they are! Rylan is just a lovely, friendly, down to earth guy. I hope no scandals ever come out about him.

Another great guy is Dynamo. Such a warm, humble, genuinely lovely man. I wasn't a fan of his entertainment shows but I'm a massive fan of his.

Supersimkin2 · 04/04/2024 22:51

JKR.

Theinjuredcleaner · 04/04/2024 22:54

Greg James seems like a good 'un.

Michael Palin.

Michael Palin tried to come onto a friend many years ago, so no.

Really? I thought he was well known for being in a long and faithful marriage.

Someone did mention Roger Moore further up the thread. There were loads of stories came out after he died about what a lovely and genuine man he was. There were lots of stories of him going above and beyond for his fans.

I also heard a story about Angela Lansbury, that she kept MSW going for much longer than she really wanted so she could keep the steady employment for many that relied on it and she regularly made sure that struggling actors and past performers were given cameos and talking roles to allow them to remain in the Actor's Guild and retain their access to healthcare assistance.

I found Hugh Grant very kind to fans, under pressure from others who were trying to encourage him to ignore the fans and leave with them in their private taxi - he didn't and went round all the fans and didn't leave until he was sure everyone had a pic/autograph if they wanted one. Not sure if that was a dig at the people he was with though!

Dazedandconfusedma · 04/04/2024 23:06

I was in an airport crying once when I was about 10 and Keanu reeves was there, and he made silly faces at me to cheer me up - I will always have a soft spot for him ❤️

I also read that about Angela. What a total class act she was. I still watch MSW after a tough day, it is my comfort show.

I always sensed that the writer Martin Amis was quite decent.

He was an extremely arrogant man. He was one of three celebrities/eminent people who were being given honorary degrees at a family member's graduation.

The other two were charming, fascinating, insightful and self-deprecating and spoke very fondly of their time at the university, both declaring what a great institution it was and what a huge privilege it was for them to be awarded their degrees.

Then Martin came on and rambled on and on about himself, so very boring, bigging himself up and saying nothing about the uni, except for a few obvious digs at its provincial-ness; however he did say throughout what a great privilege it had been for the university that somebody as amazing as he was willing to accept this degree from them!! He didn't even try to pretend that he was joking or being mischievous.

Lee Child tells a lovely story of bounding up to Martin Amis at some function and saying, 'Hi - we were at school together, and now we're both successful authors, who'd have thought it?' Amis said, 'I don't know who you are,' and walked away. So Lee Child wrote a character into his next book who was an absolute tosser called Martin Smallbone.

As soon as I saw the title I thought I hope someone has said Rylan and can see he's already been mentioned.
Agree with Paul O'Grady, George Michael and JK Rowling also. I've never met any of them or know anyone who has though.
I have had dealings through work with Sarah Beeney on numerous occasions and she was nothing but lovely to everyone she dealt with

Singleandproud · 04/04/2024 23:10

@Olivegardenishome Taylor is great and although lots of people love to hate her I think she lives her life how many of us dream we could if we had her kind of money. Doing what she loves, jet setting around and enjoying the luxuries, she offsets her carbon with twice the number of credits (although offsetting is never as good as not using in the first place) but also donating lots of her money.
She donates to food banks in every city she's in. Often visits children's wards to see and perform for those that had no chance of being at her shows.
Gave huge bonuses to her tour crew that allowed them to put down payments on houses etc. Her dancers have always had their insurance and health plans covered which apparently is very rare over there.
During COVID monitored social media and when she saw fans that were struggling paypal'd them $3000 to help them out.

She obviously comes from a place of huge privilege, her parents were wealthy but she sounds like she was just brought up really well when you hear others talk about her. I'm sure there's an element of managing her image but even so she's at a stage like JKR where she's pretty invincible, her fans are likely to be fans for life unless she did something truly terrible and she'll never need to work again.

My sister worked with Olivia Colman on Flowers. Apparently she is lovely.

What did she think of Will Sharpe? He comes over as nice.
