I’ll start with Ryan Reynolds. He honestly seems completely down to earth, responsive to his fans and likes to have a good joke at his own expense

So you've met her have you?

How dismissive. And dehumanising about someone you don't even know.

Esther has spent her lifetime campaigning for people's consumer rights, rights for the lonely and elderly, children and now for proper legislation to enable assisted dying.

its depressing that the perception of a persons worth and "niceness" is heavily skewed by the superficiality borne out of social media instead of looking at their actual lifelong contributions to humankind. That to me is what makes a wonderful person. I would love to meet her before she dies, she's unique, not least of all having to battle misogyny and the patriarchy of the BBC back in the 70s. Enough to knock the edges off anyone!

That halo you're polishing - you missed a bit.

Oh also, Jonathan Ross is apparently a complete knob. My dad worked with him during the 90's and said he was awful to everyone.

I came here to say the same. He is obnoxious. A family member was a guest on his show. I was backstage afterwards and he was really rude about them, not realising that I was within earshot. He invited us all back to his house and we went. I have never told my relative what he said.

I’ve always thought Richard Osman comes across as a good egg.

I'd love to go to dinner with Richard.

Pyramintdreamer · 04/04/2024 19:20

Peter Kay

MrsDoubtfire123 · 04/04/2024 19:23

The wife of the man she had an affair with for nearly a decade probably didn't rate her even though they had been best friends. She wasn't very nice about her in her autobiography and upset her step children. I mean she won, she got him so you have to be pretty nasty to write negative stuff about the woman when she was dead.

She had a previous affair with a married man.

As for her dealing with the misogyny at the BBC I don't suppose having an affair with the head of the department where she worked did her career any harm.

Perhaps she was just disgusted with the way animals are so badly abused in ME countries.

And so she blames ALL MUSLIMS for it. Seems reasonable...

I like what George said when asked if he was angling for an invitation to William and Kate's wedding. He was very self aware. It's sad he's gone.

Oh, yes! I’d forgotten about that. It really is sad. I was so upset when he died. I know some people think that’s melodramatic because I didn’t know him but I’d grown up with his music being my absolute favourite. I can always picture different parts of my life with different songs.

He seemed like such a laugh as well..often taking the mickey out of himself.

SmashingGemini · 04/04/2024 19:28

Natalie Cassidy. Warm, funny, self-deprecating.

I don't know these people but I'll be very upset if they turn out to be wrong 'uns.

Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall
Michaela Strachan
Jules Hudson
Nicky Chapman
George Clarke
Henry Cole

One of them is rumoured to have some gross sexual proclivities.

Iwasafool · 04/04/2024 19:30

I always thought James Garner seemed like a lovely man. I do hope no one has to tell us something horrible about him.

Msmumm · 04/04/2024 19:34

Andy and Jamie Murray are both lovely guys.
Kind, polite, friendly. Very well brought up.

Akiddleydiveytoo · 04/04/2024 19:34

I don't know them but I'd be gutted if any of these turned out to be arseholes

Susan Calman
Hugh Jackman
Paul Rudd
Declan Donolly
David Tennant
Richard Osman
Jason Manford

Other people I also think seem genuine and warm

Lorraine Kelly
Sandi Toksvig
Noel Fielding
Alison Hammond
Charlotte Ritchie
Bill Bailey

DS has had some supporting artist roles over the years & the nicest leading actors according to him were Jim Broadbent, Henry Winkler & (not a Mumsnet favourite I know but...) Jason Manford. Fionn Whitehead was lovely too although less famous than the others at the time.

JKR is not nice - many in Edinburgh who have met her before her rise to such levels of fame know that.

Ricky Gervais is absolutely not nice. He’s similar to Jimmy Care - both rude wankers

She may not be 'nice' but she is kind. And a hero to women.

Dibilnik · 04/04/2024 19:47

Me!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just haven't become famous yet. But it's only a matter of time

Grumblevision · 04/04/2024 19:50

Simon Baker comes across well. And I think Robin Tunney still likes him after 7 seasons of The Mentalist.

XelaM · 04/04/2024 19:56

James Norton.

I met him twice and had a chat with him and he couldn't be nicer. Such a lovely guy and SO talented (and handsome of course 😍)

Jason Manford is so great he was involved in a cheating texting scandal.

Lorraine Kelly is known to be a complete bitch.

What people don't realise is see these people on TV and even on Gogglebox, they're presenting an image as to how they want to be seen. Too much backlash against them and look what happens to e.g. John Leslie, Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby.

The vast majority of celebs only get where they are by using people and being nasty to them, some are nice and some not nice. But in the world of TV, film, music and celebrity you don't get places by being a weak pushover.

FrippEnos · 04/04/2024 20:00

I would like to think that Sandra Bullock is nice

And

Just to throw a curve ball in there
Snoop Dogg.

ElizaMulvil · 04/04/2024 20:01

Emma Barnett was impressive at a recent meet up. Not putting on the charm but honest and forthright. Championing the right of women not to have to please. Very honest about past difficulties. Went up in my estimation.

EternalSunshine19 · 04/04/2024 20:02

Keanu Reeves. Tom Hanks

NosnowontheScottishhills · 04/04/2024 20:02

I’ve not read all the comments but Paul Newman stands out not only was he beautiful he was outspoken about things like global disarmament and same sex marriage and his company donated hundreds millions to thousands of charities and he founded other charities.

TWETMIRF · 04/04/2024 20:03

I hope that all 6 of Them There are lovely, they seem to have a great bond and I love what they do together. Mat is fucking lush so bound to be a complete shit just to balance things out

ElizaMulvil · 04/04/2024 20:09

Jessica Ennis -Hill. Supports local charities and events. Absolutely lovely.
