This is showing my age a bit but for some reason Rod Jane and Freddy came into my mind this morning and I was wondering who else remembers them?!

This guy does some pretty funny videos about old TV shows from the 70s/80s/90s, the Rainbow Retrospective is worth a look for some nostalgia.

My perfect primary school lunch hour was Jamie and his magic torch, Rainbow then a bit of The Sullivans as I lived across the road from the school.

Stareysheep · 03/04/2024 16:38

I remember when we first got a colour TV and realising that George from Rainbow was pink.

Loved it. Reminds me of lunches with my Nan, she would look after me during school hols and Rainbow would always be on telly. Then Sons & Daughters which she would watch.

Today, the voice of Zippy reminds me of Josh Widdecombe (sorry Josh).

Used to watch that with my Nan too! I think Morag from Home and Away was in it. Can still sing the theme tune 😃
Along with Flying Doctors and an Aussie drama about a hospital (think it was called 'Angels' or something) and a bit of Prisoner Cell Block H for good measure.
I used to love those school holidays (also because I got to sneak a read of her Mills and Boon books, which lived behind a 'special' curtain in the bedroom. Grandad thought they were outrageously smutty so made her hide them!) 😂

I remember

As a slight tangent, does anybody remember the BBC1 Sunday evening show, Barriers.

My first crush was the star of it. Benedict Taylor.

Jamie and Wordsworth. Looked so exciting, whizzing down the slide for adventures.
Also watched the Sullivans. There were quite a few (sometimes a bit racy) Aussie dramas on back then, think we might have watched them all 😂
The Flumps were another favourite for me. Loved Pootle.

bluetopazlove · 03/04/2024 16:52

I loved the tv programme The Angels about the lives of the nurses at St Angela's .Really wish someone somewhere would run it again .

Oh I watched a documentary about that how weird is that. Its like a true crime doc "HELP I MARRIED MY STALKER!"

LIZS · 03/04/2024 10:52

Rainbow! There was one before Freddy iirc.

Rod Jane and Roger 😁😁

KitchenSinkLlama · 03/04/2024 18:19

There was only one for me. Sweep. My first love. ❤️

SevenSeasOfRhye · 03/04/2024 18:24

Yes! My sister and I made up a lengthy story about the three of them being in a love triangle and would relate the supposed progress of this triangle to their demeanour and interaction on various TV appearances.

I was amused to learn, decades later, that they had in fact been in a love triangle! Jane was married initially to Rod and then to Freddy.😂

Lifeinlists · 03/04/2024 18:35

There's a teddy in a bedroom in this house called Bungle. He looks very similar (except smaller!) and is about 33 years old now. DS left him here when he moved out but I wasn't allowed to find him a new home.

We loved Rainbow- I was quite sad when Geoffrey died.

When we got our first colour telly was watching cracker Jack on the Black and White TV and when they installed the colour one Stew pot was wearing a yellow T shirt the things you remember!

blueirises · 03/04/2024 18:53

Geoffrey came to our school to open our summer fair. He was very red in the face - all of us horrible kids said he'd been boozing.

Here's a picture of original Bungle. You'll never sleep again! Quite muscular:-

Christ! That should have a sensitive filter on it 😂 Zippy's face says it all.

Bubobubo · 03/04/2024 20:29

MugofteaandWordle · 03/04/2024 12:06

Rainbow was the best - I thought Zippy was hilarious as a kid.

Why did Rod, Jane and Freddy always appear together though? It was never just one of them popping in.

Co-dependent 😁

I thought that! The eyes! And the massive pecs! ..almost half bear, half gorilla 😱😂

Auldspinster · 03/04/2024 22:12

The fella that voiced Zippy also voiced the Daleks with the help of a Ring Modulator.

Oh I used to borrow my mums Mills and boon books too..(so much more fun than my own sweet dreams ones)
The covers where ridiculous, all heaving bosoms! But that's how I picked them out!
Loved point horror and sweet valley high books too

natlie77 · 07/04/2024 07:51

Loved them especially Zippy, I had a strange childhood and earliest memories are being in my mother's bedroom watching Rainbow and the theme tune.
Surrounded by books, I have no idea where my mother was the rest time was spent picking the gold gilt off her hideous built in wardrobes

Clawdy · 07/04/2024 08:11

Crown Court!
The Cedar Tree! Can still hear that theme music.

NowThatYoureGone · 07/04/2024 08:24

Crown Court is shown on a film channel. Lots of well known actors doing bit parts back then.

Does anyone remember Copper Castle? Kids show in the 70s, moving figures, not cartoon. Loved that.

Ninahaen · 07/04/2024 08:26

For years I thought the Rod in Rod. Jane and Freddy was Rod Stewart
