Dressing gown of doom is on

He has been made unwell by a takeaway that he ate late last night and is concerned that I am not checking on him often enough. He has limped all the way downstairs to tell me this.

I wouldn't say that was self inflicted. I'd expect takeaway food to be safe to eat.

Given he was able to eat spag bol the next day, sounds like it was 'safe' - but probably very indigestible eaten late at night. Self inflicted foolish choice.

reallyworriedjobhunter · 03/04/2024 19:20

DGOD was taken off mid-morning and we are back at DEFCON jeans and T shirt. Although he is still feeling very tired.

Kids are trying not to make eye contact with him.

Made me lol! 😂

mamacorn1 · 03/04/2024 19:26

Don’t look him in the eye OP…. It’s not safe

Deathraystare · 03/04/2024 19:29

@reallyworriedjobhunter

More importantly, is he full of tea and sympathy when you are ill (I am guessing not which is why you have sympathy for him!).

reallyworriedjobhunter · 03/04/2024 19:31

He is pretty good when I am ill - which is rare. Today he has done some jobs that needed doing, played with the kids, brought me cuppas, now sorting out a mammoth amount of recycling. Back to being a normal human again.

Call me perverse but a bit partial to dressing gowns of doom at dawn (or dusk) - bur the head tilt would have brought me down with the raging ick.

On a serious note if he’s well enough for Spag Bol I’d set him up on declutter duty and IKEA assembly - otherwise time to LTB

We were with my Mum for Easter. She has stage 4 lung cancer and insisted on cooking Easter lunch for 12 people.

Wow, our parents' generation are made of strong stuff aren't they! Sadly my Dad also had stage 4 cancer (prostrate undetected for years, no scans given, and then it had spread, diabolical) yet took the dog out every day, maintained the garden, pushed himself so much to get the most out of life. I'm so sorry about your Mum, tough lady! Xx

A dressing gown being worn for its intended purpose at either end of the day isn't a DGOD.

It's a malingering or hypochondrial inhabitant which confers that status.

DisabledDemon · 03/04/2024 20:03

The dressing gown of doom - presumably accompanied by the slippers of sloth and the duvet of desolation.

reallyworriedjobhunter · 03/04/2024 20:19

And the underpants of unbearable being...

That's not self inflicted. He's eaten a takeaway which is pretty normal every now and again. You don't need to bow and scrape to him but what harm would it do to be nice to him (and to not post about him condescendingly online).

Sense of humour failure strikes again…🥸

DCat has gone up to sit on the end of the bed and stare at him.

😸😹

diddl · 02/04/2024 21:04

He's got a cat judging looking after him that's more than he deserves enough!

It's probably contemplating which bit to eat first if he shuffles off this mortal coil.

I'm trying to cut down on my screen time and then I came across this! I love a DGOD thread and you're hilarious @reallyworriedjobhunter Glad he's dressed but is the ankle any better?

Sorry about the screen time. The stiff ankle is a long running thing. I blame his mother for all of this btw.

It would have to go in the wash. Then he would be without the DGOD and we would have no way of knowing if he was ill or not.

This has really cheered me up. DGOD is on weekly here. Just so I know.

What is DEFCON?

Hope it means he is back to his best

even though that doesn't sound like it would be that much of a help to you

fetchacloth · 03/04/2024 22:16

What a wuss. 🙄
Tell him to grow a pair or go home.

Doesn't matter whose fault it is he can't opt out of family life, especially when you have so much on. I suspect you're using humour to cover up your anger, he needs telling!

mysparkleismissing · 03/04/2024 22:31

Hilarious threat thanks for cheering me up. Not just my DH who tells me I'm detail about each ailment, a bit of a scratchy throat, a little bit of a sore head, a sniffle... you get the idea.

No DGOD here (and had to goggle that!) But a oodie of... dunno news to think of something appropriate!

Hope he's recovered and releiveed it's not noro!!

ErrolTheDragon · 03/04/2024 22:47

What is DEFCON?

Defense readiness Condition.
Mainly associated with the Cold War.

DEFCON is short for (apparently) 'Defence Readiness Condition' - according to the US military, who are clearly not known for their command of the English language.

He has shuffled back upstairs with his head slightly tilted to one side.
