As a teenager I was constantly judged by my working class family for being interested in politics, economics & science, listening to R4, reading books & broadsheet newspapers and wanting to get out of my crappy little home town to go to university.

Looking back, I probably was an irritatingly pretentious & somewhat arrogant little know-it-all, but I’m still glad I did get out.

As a Mum in 2008 I allowed my son to walk to school on his own. Fucking hell even then I was judged for not walking and breathing for him by the other helicopter Mothers!! Son is now 24 ,got a 1st in economics and earning more money in Vancouver than all those Mothers could actually dream of . Am gloating and no apologies…

Fairyliz · 01/04/2024 23:07

Can I ask posters who is doing all of this judging and why not tell them to fuck off?

(Although that perhaps means I’m judging you for not speaking out?)

Ooh you’ve just reminded me, being what some people describe as slim (I’m not, I’m a size 10 and always have been but obviously size 10 has got bigger over the years), you’re judged as not a ‘real woman’. Never face to face but definitely in general terms.

Also, and this is in real life, weirdly friends who are bigger than me comment about me having no boobs a lot. It’s odd to know what to do with that because my cup size is anything between DD and F depending on the time of the month and bra and I sometimes struggles to find clothes to fit because of off proportions but if I say that I sound like a twat.

Another one, my BIL assumed I worked in admin for years because I think he struggled to get his head around a woman working in a prison type setting.

When my hair is short people assume I’m gay, including gay women.

I unleashed at a judgy couple of randoms at a wedding. I was on my own as dh was at another wedding was pregnant with a toddler and was a sahm after professional career.

On and on they went about how outrageous this was. I kept politely trying to change the subject. They kept on. Then I let them have my real views politely and calmly. She started crying. Live by the sword die by the sword love!
